To dread the car crumbs

PotteryLottery · 09/02/2019 23:31

DD's best friend's lovely mum has asked me to take her DD to an atter school activity once a week for just 6 weeks as I will be taking my DD there anyway, and she doesn't drive.

The girls will need to have a snack in the car as time will be tight and it is a physical activity.

It definitely won't be for more than 6 weeks and the school suggest car pooling as it is a fair distance.

AIBU to dread the crumbs in the car? There's something wrong with me isn't there? It'll be weird if I say bring a non -crumbly snack!

It's not that I'm a clean freak. More that I loathe cleaning.

I don't think it's unreasonable to ask for non crumby snacks..
I'm reluctant to let the kids eat in the car, only happens when it's unavoidable and I try for non crumby

Bryjam · 09/02/2019 23:46

No eating in my car, that doesn’t change for someone else’s DC I’m afraid. However I don’t think it’s unreasonable to ask for something not messy. How old is the child? I wouldn’t let young kids eat in the back while I was driving unless there was an adult with them in case of choking.

PotteryLottery · 09/02/2019 23:53

They are aged 10.

No eating in my car either. If there isn’t time for a snack it’s tough. Or they’ll have to miss the start of the activity, or just not go. If they’re 10 it will literally take a minute to eat a flapjack standing on the pavement.

PotteryLottery · 10/02/2019 21:15

Is anyone else more relaxed about this than me?

Put a towel/rug on the seat then just scoop that and any crumbs up after you’ve dropped off?

Sparklingbrook · 10/02/2019 21:21

I didn't mind any DC eating in the car TBH. Could you supply the snacks?

pinkpantsrock · 10/02/2019 21:22

erh?? are you being serious? no eating in car + kids??? I love cars / my car but even if i tried banning food, my car would still look mess inside! every time i get in i get leafs/stones/mud coming in. Then there's the endless toys, spare clothes (and my coffee cups). Are you these fake mums that have life sorted, houses like show homes and generally perfect which are all over MN at the moment?

Bryjam · 10/02/2019 22:02

erh?? are you being serious? no eating in car + kids???

erh?? Yeah? It's easy enough to do, I have managed 18 years???

Hmm
Sparklingbrook · 10/02/2019 22:03

I just vac the car regularly.

user1511042793 · 10/02/2019 22:14

I allow sausage rolls. I just hoover😂

itsboiledeggsagain · 10/02/2019 22:17

What no food at all? And an adult in the back to supervise?
Where do you all eat McDonald's?

Bryjam · 10/02/2019 22:20

If very small children were eating in the back of the car of course I would expect an adult to be with them, isn't it standard to be close by when small DC eat?

And we sit in when we go to McDonald's.

thenightsky · 10/02/2019 22:24

Nah.. no eating in car. Snacks are an unnecessary luxury. Eat properly at lunch instead.

Sparklingbrook · 10/02/2019 22:26

Depends entirely on what you are doing and the time you have surely.

Habadabadoo · 10/02/2019 22:39

YABU to not own a cordless dyson. Best purchase ever. Let them eat what they want and a one minute wizz with the Hoover - sorted! Happy kids happy car 🤷‍♀️

LellyMcKelly · 10/02/2019 22:42

Give them a banana and a bag to put the skin in when they’re done.

blackteasplease · 10/02/2019 22:42

God my car is a complete mess of crumbs.

BaronessBomburst · 10/02/2019 22:44

I'm with Lelly. Mine gets a banana. No crumbs and no cleaning.

thenightsky · 10/02/2019 22:45

Yes to the banana solution.

Ollivander84 · 10/02/2019 23:10

I have horses. Crumbs are the least of my car mess Grin
I work for a luxury car brand and it gets washed and vacuumed there so in my managers words "we don't look like we have half a farm yard on the car park" Blush

WhatNow40 · 10/02/2019 23:32

I've embraced the crumbs and get the car washed/vac'd once a month. Far easier than getting bent out of shape or asking my child to not eat at a point in the day when he needs to eat. Kids first, cars 8th or 9th down the list of things to prioritise.

Sparklingbrook · 11/02/2019 06:14

I have teenagers that play football. In the rain. I have to let them get in the car afterwards. 😮
I can't be precious over crumbs.

lavenderbluedilly · 11/02/2019 06:44

Banana/jelly squares/marshmallow/melon/mini cheese/fridge raiders chicken bites. Just pick something that doesn’t cause crumbs!
