I'm reading a book that describes a place as bucolic. I know what it means. I've read it before I just can't get my head to read it as anything other than bubonic.

OP posts:
DadDadDad · 09/02/2019 19:54

I get it with "salubrious". I think it reminds me of "salacious" and I have to pause and remember that salubrious is a good thing.

fusioluxe · 09/02/2019 19:56

Bucolic with me also, if just doesn’t sound pleasant!

DorothyZbornak · 09/02/2019 19:58

'Shook' and 'woke' Confused
Also, 'disingenuous'. I know what it means, but a lot of people who use it don't seem to understand the meaning at all.

Janethevirgo · 09/02/2019 20:00

Cock, don’t get that at all

DadDadDad · 09/02/2019 20:01

Er, well I guess that explains your username, Jane. Shock

jarhead123 · 09/02/2019 20:08

@DadDadDad - its virgo not virgin...

julensaor · 09/02/2019 20:11

sartorial, I know what it means, but it really is useless word, it kind of means nothing really and it does not even sound like it should have anything to do with clothes.

DadDadDad · 09/02/2019 20:12

virgo is the Latin for virgin. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virgo_(constellation)

Bluelady · 09/02/2019 20:12

Same thing.

DadDadDad · 09/02/2019 20:13

That was me responding @jarhead123

Laconic sounds laid back to me but means terse of abrupt.

Totally agree with bucolic - sounds medical and pus filled to me, not pleasant country stuff!

Sardonic
I read as if it were sarcastic

Its sneeering and mocking isnt it? And sarcasm can be used to sneer and mock?

TooDamnSarky · 09/02/2019 20:33

It is a very similar meaning, but I meant I jmentally substitute it as I read.

RaffertyFair · 09/02/2019 20:37

Ah I see Smile

stopitandtidyupp · 09/02/2019 20:43

I know its a phrase but

'A sight for sore eyes'
My mum taught me it was a bad thing. A good thing makes more sense but can't get my hand around it and see it as an insult.

WeAreGerbil · 09/02/2019 20:48

I always think hoi polloi means the opposite, i.e. the select few rather than the many.

Debruary · 09/02/2019 20:51

I remain convinced that spendthrift means the opposite of what it actually means.

GiveMyHeadPeaceffs · 09/02/2019 20:58

Puce...it should be a green colour not pinky Confused

LordPickle · 09/02/2019 20:58

Nonplussed

I feel like it doesn't sound like what it means.

flameycakes · 09/02/2019 21:01

'Several' always thought it meant seven x

MissClareRemembers · 09/02/2019 21:03

Inflammable.

I see it as meaning the exact opposite of its actual meaning. It starts with ‘IN’!! I’m sure I’ve used it INcorrectly my entire life.
