We discuss all sorts on here. From colours of duvet covers to rape. And you let someone steal all our secrets and honest conversation.
It takes you 48 hours to tell me.
Daily Mail anyone?
Poor show indeed Mumsnet.

From the highly reputable Urban Dictionary Grin

coff
A sly way to tell someone, fuck off. Normally used by pupils towards their teachers, or by any one towards a person of authority. Sometime followed by a pretend cough (the more sarcastic the better).
Teacher : Ben, i know you've just arrived in class but are you messing about already.
Pupil : coff.
#fuck off#don't talk to me#go away#piss off#i don't like you

DonkeyAtemyHomework · 08/02/2019 23:44

What info are you guys sharing on here that makes you so worried?

Noname99 · 08/02/2019 23:46

Exactly hedda
It’s a commercial platform that will get hacked or have data fuck up just like the hundreds of other companies .....it’s in the new virtually every month......
Saks - 5 million records
Facebook - 87 million records
Under armour - 150 million records
Strava - 13 million records
Norway national health - 2.9 million
British airways - 500,000 records
Marriot - 500 million records

If you are posting stuff on open websites that you don’t want other people to ever trace back then set up a disposable email address and regularly change password and, in MN site case, name change. It’s personal internet safety 101 or just .....don’t!

bbcessex · 08/02/2019 23:47

Donkey.. password. Email address. Linked to other accounts.

My Spotify & Netflix breached on Wed & Thur. coincidence?

Beelzebop · 08/02/2019 23:48

I was thinking about people in vulnerable situations who ask for help about violence, abuse etc. Yes we know it's a business etc.

Agree bbcessex.

we know it’s a business.

It’s the cavalier way Mumsnet seem to have so many ‘incidents’

Feenie · 08/02/2019 23:50

I haven’t had an email. Was I supposed to?

HeddaGarbled · 08/02/2019 23:54

Two people who logged in at the same time as each other are confirmed as accidentally having access to each others details. 46 people who logged in within a limited time frame may also have been affected. All these people are registered Mumsnet users and are unlikely to be any risk to each other.

It was a software fault which was rectified as soon as Mumsnet were made aware.

You are dangerously naive if you think that using the internet can ever be made risk free. But the risk of private information being shared publicly as a result of this incident is so tiny, I really do believe that anyone who is making a fuss about it is just being a drama llama.

Bingeslayer · 08/02/2019 23:54

I really don't understand the problem,if you're not happy with how mums net is run, simply leave mums net surely!!!

AzureApps · 08/02/2019 23:55

I would agree with all of your post but I can’t read it due to the fecking adverts covering content!! I ageee with the bits that i can see

bbcessex · 08/02/2019 23:56

Hedda - you are repeating the Mumsnet email
Word for word.

May I suggest that you are the naive one 😄

VanGoghsDog · 08/02/2019 23:59

It seems odd to post on a site that you don't want to post on to tell people that you're not posting on that site.

I mean, if they've really lost your trust, why are you still logged in?

Oldbutnotold · 09/02/2019 00:01

Didn't know anything. I wandered why I wasn't logged in though. Been using mn today and just logged in now as I don't always post

MrsCatE · 09/02/2019 00:03

Ok, safe place, blah, blah, blah. NEVER ASSUME T'INTERNET IS Secure and be happy to face consequences, a la Ashley Madison.

NunoGoncalves · 09/02/2019 00:05

Ok, safe place, blah, blah, blah. NEVER ASSUME T'INTERNET IS Secure and be happy to face consequences

This. Sign up with a throwaway email, don't post revealing personal details, etc.

bbcessex · 09/02/2019 00:14

You’re all quite right.
The difference is, Mumsnet HQ set out to deliver a facade of a ‘safe’ experience. “Now now, posters? Ahem, play nicely”
“May we remind you that whilst you’re all loeblu , not everyone is who they say they are”
“Let’s take this post down whilst we protect you all from the nasties”

if you create that kind of ‘nurturing’ , faux-controlled enironment, you can understand why people feel let down.

In reality - Mumsnet are not commercial enough or savvy enough to protect the environment from breach.

KingIrving · 09/02/2019 00:25

The Australian Parliament was hacked this week www.smh.com.au/politics/federal/federal-mps-computer-network-hacked-forcing-passwords-to-be-changed-20190208-p50wgm.html so get a grip, no matter how hard you try someone will try and someone will succeed to get through. That's what I teach my kids, do not trust the internet, don't write anything you wouldn't want everyone to read

whatamessthisis · 09/02/2019 00:41

As one of the breached account holders I am VERY pissed off.

Fiddie · 09/02/2019 00:44

Hmmm I didn't get an email.

VanGoghsDog · 09/02/2019 01:02

@whatamessthisis

How did you know you were affected?

whatamessthisis · 09/02/2019 01:04

@VanGoghsDog I have had an email saying

"We’re very sorry to say that we’ve become aware of a data breach affecting your user account which means that another user inadvertently had access to your account for a short time."

VanGoghsDog · 09/02/2019 01:32

Ah, OK, so they sent a specific email to those affected, that's good.

Chloemol · 09/02/2019 02:30

Mumsnet explained why it happened, a it upgrade which they have now backed out off. Often until they go live with something you may not find an issue. Look at all the issues across all the different companies. It’s one of the downsides of technology. That said they sorted it as soon as they were aware, have apologised and confirmed that no one could actually get into your account. Mumsnet posts can be read by anyone at anytime and if you don’t want people to see the info don’t put it up

whatamessthisis · 09/02/2019 07:01

...confirmed that no one could actually get into your account

That's not the case. Mumsnet has said:

When someone other than you logs into your account, they can see:
your email address
Your “About You” page and account settings
your personal messages
your posting history.
