Really unhappy about the attitude of this place when something had gone wrong.

I can't get on board with the Reddit board though

What are you looking for by posting this? People to plead with you to stay?
It is not the end iof the world, no one died or lost thousands of pounds. To my knowledge no one has even been seriously compromised. I don’t think you need to go, just be mindful that nothing on line is ever a hundred per cent secure and carry on as before.

ApolloandDaphne · 07/02/2019 22:41

There are hacks and breaches in all businesses. My DH works in the finance industry dealing with cyber security and you would be astounded at the number of hacks and breaches he has to deal with. It is part of modern day business.

Tooldemont · 07/02/2019 22:43

A data breaches is a hack, someone unauthorized has got access to data they shouldn't. It happened due to a botched upgrade

CleaningKettles · 07/02/2019 22:44

You say you're going somewhere else, but you're not really are you? You just wanted to be dramatic and stamp your feet.

easyandy101 · 07/02/2019 22:47

Look, it's s forum, I've never used a forum that didn't have at one time or another a problem similar to this.

This is why you don't use an online message board for the storage of important things about yourself.

It's pretty much par for course with forum software that there will be botched upgrades and there will be exploits that people can use.

Just use a burner email and crack on

newnameforthis7 · 07/02/2019 22:49

Bye then.

CloserIAm2Fine · 07/02/2019 22:50

If you’re genuinely that concerned then don’t bloody post about it, just go! FFS!

Cherrysherbet · 07/02/2019 22:53

See ya.

GottenGottenGotten · 07/02/2019 22:53

So anyone that logged in and saw someone else's details is a hacker?

Nah, a hack is a deliberate attempt to see other people's data. This was not a hack.

itsboiledeggsagain · 07/02/2019 22:53

Yeah I agree with lots of people. It is a risk you take when posting on a public site. I am not too bothered.

Bubastes · 07/02/2019 22:53

You'd swear the OP had shat on people's dinner table by some of the reactions here.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 07/02/2019 22:54

Toooldemort

I agree it is annoying, the adverts at one point were making the site unusable and the tech problems can be worrying

But i would agree with others that dregging and setting back up with a burner email is probably the best way to go

Ive done the burner email...but i havent dregged so its probably pointless Grin

I only really know about reddit and nethuns

I do find reddit a bit confusing but thats more than likely because its nothing like mumsnet

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 07/02/2019 22:56

They do seem a bit blasé...doesnt exactly fill you with confidence

I still like it here though Grin

Duckshead · 07/02/2019 22:57

What the heck is a burner email please? Should I be worried re hacking? Are we in danger! How come I missed it ....Confused

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 07/02/2019 23:01

duck

I doubt that there is anything to be worried about but changing passwords and using burner emails for certian things i think its supposed to be good internet safety

But i could have made that up

I think a burner is an email thats just set up for mumsnet and doesn't have anything that would link to personal details...again i could be wrong

Lindy2 · 07/02/2019 23:06

So you've posted saying you're not going to post anymore? Slightly ironic. I guess you won't see any of the replies though as you've gone.

julensaor · 07/02/2019 23:25

I think most users on here are not sharing bank account details or addresses, just opinions or emotional situations and I get why you would be upset if someone could login to your history if you had some number of personal posts. However, this the world we live in, never ever ut anything online that you are afraid of. Try this website: haveibeenpwned.com; I was shocked, 5 sites came up for me, passwords duly changed. This is not uncommon.

OlennasWimple · 07/02/2019 23:25

TBH anyone using MN for anything vaguely personal - whether that's what you really think of the lunch box your best friend packs for their PFB, your recurring vaginal thrush or the DV you suffered with your first boyfriend - should use an email address set up solely for this purpose and not used for anything else, particularly anything like Facebook or LinkedIn that links to you in real life

If you are concerned about the security of your account after this latest incident, suggest de-registering and then setting up a new account with a dedicated email address

marymarkle · 07/02/2019 23:29

I am really really shaken by all of this.

userlotsanumbers · 07/02/2019 23:34

Not a hack though. System confusion after moving the database onto a cloud system as I read it? That's not a hack. Can you tell me why you think it's a hack?

marymarkle · 07/02/2019 23:34

And those effectively ridiculing posters like me seem not to understand the ways in which many people use this site, especially DMs.

julensaor · 07/02/2019 23:40

Yes @userlotsanumber, you are correct, this was not technically a hack, not great database management and probably should be looked at, but yes not a hack OP.

GottenGottenGotten · 08/02/2019 07:44

I don't think anyone is being ridiculed on this thread @marymarkle

Lweji · 08/02/2019 07:49

Still here?
