Is it sad to go to the bar/pub on your own?

Sat night: is it sad to go out for a drink or two on your own?

OP posts:
SnotttyNosedSheila · 06/02/2019 20:47

Nope. I work away quite a lot. As much as I enjoy a room picnic that I can get from M&S, sometimes I want a drink and a hot meal.

There's always a good few people in every place I've eaten who are on their own. It doesn't even occur to me to think that it's odd at all. Certainly restaurant staff have never treated me as if I'm odd.

Go out OP! Enjoy!!

bigchris · 06/02/2019 20:55

I think it's sad some people never would

What are you all scared of ?

bigchris · 06/02/2019 20:59

For example I was picking up a friend from the station last night, she texted her train was running 45 minutes late

Instead of sitting in the car I went to the nearest pub and had a half and some nobby nuts

Was lovely Smile

IndigoSpritz · 06/02/2019 21:25

Not at all. I usually drink alone and I have done so for 27 years. I'm in the pub now with Old Peculier to hand. Male, age 48, for context.

Squirrelblanket · 06/02/2019 21:29

I do this a lot, I travel a lot for work and like another poster said I don't want to just sit in my hotel room. Sometimes I'll eat, sometimes I'll read my Kindle, sometimes just people watch. I really enjoy it.

RLABC · 06/02/2019 21:36

My DP will if he’s waiting for someone but not for me So, he'll go alone if he's waiting for "someone", but not for you? How odd Grin

Crapsicles · 06/02/2019 21:39

I’ve not been to a pub on my own, but I love going and getting a coffee by myself. Ive always wanted to eat out at a restaurant alone but never been brave enough

Noviceoftheweek · 06/02/2019 21:40

There was a feature in a magazine or Sunday paper last year about senior women and their work/life routines. One woman described how she left work and stopped and had a couple of glasses of wine alone at her neighbourhood bar before getting home, thus avoiding her children’s bedtime routine. She got to to tuck them into bed and that was that. Didn’t sound that appealing to me!

bigchris · 06/02/2019 21:45

Crapsicles

Why wouldn't you be brave enough ? What do you fear ?!

LanguageAsAFlower · 06/02/2019 21:47

I did it tonight! First night away from baby. Had a steak and two pints. Currently in a lovely clean hotel bed SO excited about sleeping all night!!

bigchris · 06/02/2019 21:48

Awwww how old is your baby?!

HelloDarlin · 06/02/2019 21:50

I do lots of things by myself, including going for a drink. Before & after I was married. Always been that way. I live a bit of people watching, chatting to someone new. It’s not for everyone, though.

Crapsicles · 06/02/2019 22:37

Not sure @bigchris you can bet your life I’d bump into an ex though 😂

You’re living my fantasy RIGHT NOW. Tell me EVERY. LITTLE. DETAIL!!

PrismGuile · 06/02/2019 22:42

No I do it often, I take a book or newspaper and enjoy a glass of son or a pint.

Jade308 · 06/02/2019 22:46

I do it all the time. Got myself a local now and made friends both male and female and the pub dog Smile

Ariela · 06/02/2019 22:48

I often pop to the next-but-one-village pub if DH is working or working late or away with work. Saves cooking for one (he'll get food for himself). I'm almost a regular now, known by name. Quite happy to order food, and they have a nice stash of newspapers and magazines on pegs on the wall + my phone, a log fire and a lovely atmosphere. I also go there for lunch on the odd Friday every now and then.

Canuckduck · 06/02/2019 22:51

I used to do it regularly when I was single and travelling alone or shopping or meeting a friend later on. Also the cinema and occasionally out for dinner. I hadn’t done it for years and then had a gap recently before meeting my husband and did it again. It felt great!! Go for it.

JellyBears · 06/02/2019 22:53

There’s a pub right by my building of flats and I’m always so tempted to go in with my book and have a drink but I’m too much of a wuss. Maybe I’ll use this thread as inspiration and do it.

GemmeFatale · 06/02/2019 22:59

I quite often walk the dog to the next village along, have a drink, then walk back. I’ll take a book/kindle/knitting sometimes, but often just chat at the bar or sit and people watch.

Used to go out to bars alone in city type places back when I travelled for work.

BrightYellowHat · 06/02/2019 23:37

When I traveled with work I had to do this all the time and just got used to it. I don't it very often now, but when I do I feel great - makes me feel a bit like the young confident pre-kid me.

newnameforthis7 · 06/02/2019 23:38

I wouldn't.

pineapplebryanbrown · 06/02/2019 23:49

I love doing things on my own, and always eat and drink out alone when on holiday on my own. It's bliss!

moredoll · 06/02/2019 23:52

I'd go to the cinema instead. Choose one with a bar.

MoaningSickness · 06/02/2019 23:52

I've done this while traveling alone etc. and I don't like it at all. I can't relax.

Love being properly on my own though, holed up in a hotel room or empty house.
