To enquire about your water bill?

We are two adults in a three bed house. DD is at university but is home during the holidays. Both out all day, two days per week neither of us is home until 10pm. Both term time only.
Water bill was £35pm but has now increased to £55. Seems rather a jump.
Can I ask how much similar families pay?
We're in the south.

I have had my meter for just over ten years, and in that time it's been read exactly once by Thames Water. I guess they must trust me to give accurate readings.

(I know it's only been read once because it's inside my flat, so they can only read it if I let them in.)

MeetJoeTurquoise · 06/02/2019 10:08

We're with Thames water and pay £33 pm on a metre. Two adults, one teen and another when home from uni. We paid much more on rateable value than we do on a metre. We have had an outside leak and the cistern leaked for a few days so ours might go down next year.

We're with Thames water on a meter. 4 bed semi 3 adults 1 teen. We pay £23 a month.

Popsicle434544 · 06/02/2019 11:38

We are a 5 bed house with 7 people and our bill has just gone down, was paying 34 a month now 23.50

Popsicle434544 · 06/02/2019 11:39

And we are on a meter

Blobby10 · 06/02/2019 12:22

£34 a month here - four bed detached but generally only me here during the week - shower (very quick ones!) twice a day, dishwasher rarely used, washing machine used once during the week and probably 3-4 times at weekend depending how many offspring are home. Obv use more water during uni holidays when all 3 come back with the extra showers plus I use the dishwasher then. Oh and eldest son cleans his car every week or so which I suppose would add in hose usage. Severn Trent and on a meter.Smile

has your consumption suddenly gone up?

We had a similar jump last year - turned out the culprit was a slightly leaking toilet (dropping from cistern to the actual toilet). have you ruled out anything like that?

we pay £30 for 2 adults and 2 DC.

adviceonthepox · 06/02/2019 12:32

Mine has just had a similar jump. I was paying £32 per month and it's just jumped to £56 per month. I can't see how? My usage June to December was slightly higher than December to June last year as I get a new bill every 6 months. Why are our bills all of sudden so high?

TadaTralala · 06/02/2019 12:49

have they added an additional amount for underpayment of last year?

Elfinablender · 06/02/2019 12:51

£38/ month on a meter in a house with 5 people.

TOADfan · 06/02/2019 13:01

Im in Northern Ireland and I'm very shocked by these figures. So thankful we don't have water charges.

blackteasplease · 06/02/2019 13:03

We our one adult and two children. After 5 months in new house our (metered) water bills have gone down from £50 to £20 per month. God knows what they thought we would use!

oreoxoreo · 06/02/2019 13:20

Thames water, 2 adults + 2 kids, we use around 10 cubic meters of water / month and direct debit is set at £22 / month.

bellabasset · 06/02/2019 21:39

I changed to a water meter in 2011 when my annual bill was £625 on the rateable value.
