I do love my mum.

I had my baby on Saturday and it’s so nice to have someone who understands you might be shattered or not up for visitors.

What sort of cake is it?

Carrot cake and lemon drizzle.

Sexnot your mother is a gift from the gods Grin Carrot cake is literally heaven on a plate. Please tell me it had proper cream cheese frosting too?!!!

I really want fish and chip Dad to adopt me 😢

My family were rubbish. All turned up for cuddles and photos and no one even offered to make me a cup of tea :( not even dh. Probably why he's soon to be an ex.

Seline · 05/02/2019 16:58

My family are like this. DHs sadly aren't.

Sexnotgender · 05/02/2019 16:58

It did have cream cheese frosting, and no dried fruit because bleurgh!

They’re fantastic.

They stayed with my older daughter and dog on Friday night while I had baby. Visited in hospital on Saturday morning before we got discharged. Went back to our house via M&S to put yummy food in our fridge then left about ten minutes after we got home from hospital to let us get settled.

I’m aware I’m very lucky!!

My in-laws brought round 2 noisy toddlers for 6 hours. Said they could not watch tv as they'd seen some that morning. Had to be asked to leave. This was day 3 after a horrible birth.

Do people count their mums as a visitor? My own mum died before I had my DC but surely it doesn't matter if you're tired or even asleep if your mum comes over?

NoParticularPattern · 05/02/2019 17:08

I’m jealous that you have an M&S near enough to stock up on food. I’m quite jealous of the carrot cake too!

Seline · 05/02/2019 17:12

former I don't but some people do. Sorry about your mum Sad

Sounds wonderful.

I was picked up from hospital by my parents 24 hours after giving birth and took on a roadtrip to see my grandad, then bsck to theirs so DS could meet the rest of the family. I was gutted. I protested but it got me no-where and was told to 'put up with it' . I was sore, couldn't sit down, wearing pyjamas, hungry and tired and my poor DS was passed from pillar to post.

I wish I'd got a taxi home from hospital 🤦‍♀️ Sadly, my parents, in laws and family seriously lack any social etiquett, empathy and conpassion. How I'd wish someone would've just brought me a cup of tea and a blanket x

Congratulations on your New baby x

Eta - poor spelling on my part! Stupid phone & fat fingers x

SlimGin · 05/02/2019 17:17

My mum was great. Offered to change DD's nappy lots but always said 'only if you don't mind me doing it' in case I didn't feel comfortable.
DP's family not great - I didn't even have somewhere to sit at one point and when we went for lunch they all got chairs and I got a stool!

Fizzforfun · 05/02/2019 17:24

Love "cake mum" & "fish & chip dad" learning tips for the day I hopefully become a granny!

witchy89 · 05/02/2019 17:35

How lovely! My mum messaged me last night to ask what meals I wanted her to make me for the freezer for when the baby comes! She has already told me she'll only come if I want her to and that she can just cook and do laundry while we focus on the baby!

MissB83 · 05/02/2019 21:41

Ideal!!

This reminds me, when my DS was 4/5 weeks old (and I was shattered), a couple of friends visited. Lovely as they are, they stayed for SIX HOURS. And didn't bring cake! I was nearly dead of exhaustion. My mum was staying with me to help, she popped out to do some shopping, came back and was horrified to find them still there so eventually told them to leave! Grin
