To think no wonder I'm bloody ill?

BoldComicSans · 05/02/2019 01:01

On Friday I came down with a cold. No biggy, we all get them.
Saturday night I couldn't sleep because I couldn't stop sneezing. Constant coughing and sore throat.

Roll on Monday and I drag myself into work because they are very strict about time off.
I end up taking more than the recommended daily dose of painkillers because I just feel dreadful.

At lunch time instead of eating I go home and have a nap. I feel too hot yet am shivering.

I ask my boss if I can finish for the day because I'm not well and staff around me are complaining that they will catch it.

I am told they can't send me home because other members off staff are also ill and they have not been allowed home.

Is it any wonder we are all bloody ill being forced to come in and share our germs?

Anyway, I now have a temp of 38.4 after paracetamol and am wheezing. My poor chest / stomach seems to be working very hard just to breathe and yet again I can't sleep.

My head feels congested and even my teeth hurt. My upper body feels too hot yet the rest of me cold.

But I have to get my arse into work as usual in 7 hours.

Rant over. Feeling very sorry for myself. Meh.

@ShadyLady53 spinal op was me, job was NHS
they argued it could have waited but I was 48hrs off paralysis. I was on a disciplinary already and couldn't have any time off for a year. I went off sick a week before the year was up due to being in agony and on morphine while waiting for my op
The previous sicknesses were all related to the fact I have no immune system but the doctors missed that for 8 years... HmmConfused

BoldComicSans · 05/02/2019 11:54

No appointments available today. Told to ring back in the morning or go to walk in centre.

Temperature is now back to normal. Face and teeth still hurt. Throat hurts and now have a full on chesty cough. But the wheezing is much less.

I retired several years ago so only have a second hand knowledge of the illness/work balance from my own DD and places like mn but just don't understand why people are expected to crawl into work when they are clearly ill. It definitely seem the way these days.

I've got a cold myself at the moment and really couldn't face the idea of having to get myself into work and concentrate on a job all day.

Colds can really knock you out and sometimes the only way to deal with them is to go home, get into bed and let yourself heal. That apart why would you want someone with a heavy cold coming into work anyway, just so they can spread it around.

You sound really unwell OP. Hope you're better soon.

BoldComicSans · 05/02/2019 12:14

OK so maybe I need the paracetamol for the temp? I'm back to 37.7.

Im going to have to drag myself to the chemist. I can't even sleep because everything in my head and face hurts.

Any recommendations as to what will help please?

I would ask the pharmacist for advice. Smile

I have a similar flu like virus at the mo. Or is it actually flu despite the jab? I can’t get out of bed!

ShadyLady53 · 05/02/2019 12:18

@Ollivander84 that’s absolutely disgraceful and from the NHS as well Angry. I hope that you’ve made a full recovery from the op at least, my sympathies regarding your immune system. I’m in a similar boat with mine and I think people just think I’m a hypochondriac Sad.

pigsDOfly · 05/02/2019 12:20

If you can't get an emergency appointment with your GP could you get a phone appointment. You really sound as if you shouldn't be wandering around to walk in centres?

BoldComicSans · 05/02/2019 12:30

My doctors don't do telephone consultations. I just want to feel normal again. I'm very miserable right now.

You do not have a cold, you have the flu! Stay home from work. A cold you can function and go to work. A flu wipes you out and can kill some people...STAY home.

BoldComicSans · 05/02/2019 12:39

I am at home. I haven't moved from my bed apart from to go for a wee or get a drink.
I'd happily sleep it away but I'm just so uncomfortable.

birdladyfromhomealone · 05/02/2019 12:54

My doc just gave me antibiotics for my chest/ears and an inhaler.
Also told me to get Pholcodine from the chemist which stops you coughing and makes you sleep.
get well soon

Missingstreetlife · 05/02/2019 17:19

Honey for cough, unless infected, then antibiotics

username79999 · 05/02/2019 17:29

Tbh if you can get to work you can't be that bad . I've had a very rare day off today ( sickness bug) and the thought of actually getting dressed never mind driving to work and doing a full day I couldn't do it .
Also asking a boss if you can go home or waiting for them to tell you to go home is ridiculous only you can know how ill you are it should be I'm ill so I'm going home .
Of course so many people declare they are ill with a sniffle but my definition of ill is can you get yourself dressed to get to work if the answer is yes then your not that ill .
Obviously depression/stress is different I'm just talking about colds and virus, but so many people take random days off so can see the employers point of view but they need to trust when you say I'm ill I'm not coming in .

3in4years · 05/02/2019 17:44

It's a bad cold. Stop panicking. Drink, rest. You will get better. Is 37.7 a fever? I have never taken my own temperature as an adult. If you feel hot/ feverish take paracetamol.
I had this last week. The cough/ sore throat is nasty and lasted a good 8 days. But the general fluey feeling should get better each day. If not, see a doctor.

JamPasty · 05/02/2019 18:54

@BoldComicSans - if it's paracetamol you have taken more than the recommended dose of, you needs to seek medical advice ASAP tonight, as it says on the packet. Paracetamol overdoses, even small ones, can be very very dangerous.

HumansCannotEverChangeSex · 05/02/2019 22:38

Do not take anymore paracetamol. There is a daily amount for a reason. I’ve seen someone in hospital because of an overdose on paracetamol. Also, as the mother of a immune surprised child, do not go into work etc if you have more than a cold. A temperature and a wheeze aren’t good signs. You could infect someone and land them in hospital.

KingBobra · 07/02/2019 06:53

@BoldComicSans - hope you are feeling better?

BoldComicSans · 07/02/2019 07:01

I am feeling much better thank you. I returned to work yesterday where half of the team is ill.

It seems to be mostly on my chest now. But I'm managing to sleep at night and my temperature is normal again.

Just taking painkillers when needed and some chesty cough medicine in hopes it will vanish as soon as it landed.

And fingers crossed I don't catch it a second time or something different doing the rounds at work.

HumansCannotEverChangeSex · 07/02/2019 17:17

The fact you went to work and lots of people are ill means you were infectious and probably still are, why not stay home until you are well? Probably going to rebound a few times if you all keep coming into work spreading the germs. Hopefully no one there has a weakened immune system.

Floralnomad · 07/02/2019 17:20

Get some night nurse for tonight , it’s does help and is worth paying the extra for the real thing .

Ragnarthe · 07/02/2019 17:53

OP, you mentioned your teeth hurt. Get checked for sinusitis. That's one of the symptoms.

BoldComicSans · 07/02/2019 17:59

I went into work through fear of repercussions. Probably the same reason that others are in work ill.

As it stands I've already had a bollocking because something wasn't covered because I had a day off sick. More days off would have made that so much worse.

My face and teeth pain seems to have gone now. Just chest feels irritated and I have a chesty cough.

OP posts:
HumansCannotEverChangeSex · 08/02/2019 08:51

Just continue spreading the germs then. Other people’s health clearly isn’t a concern for you. You know you are unwell, you know you have caused others to become ill yet you still go into work. It’s ridiculous. Stay home and get better. I’m sure they cannot fire you for being unwell, surely if they even suggest such a thing you can go higher up and complain. People can be dicks but being sick is a good enough reason to stay off. Maybe then, they would be more lax about it when people can actually do their work because they aren’t sick all the time. I dread my daughter growing up and having to risk being around people like yourself.
