To ask Pre-School if all children are vaccinated?

TiredMama90 · 04/02/2019 21:19

New account, been off a while.

My DS is 22 months, he will be starting pre school in April.

He is fully vaccinated (even the flu jab).

AIBU to ask the pre school if all children are vaccinated as ideally I'd prefer my DS not to be around unvaccinated children if I can help it.

Of course they can't share that information with you. Don't be ridiculous.

What were you hoping to do with the info in any case? Would you pull him if you found there were unvaccinated children there? Confused

InDubiousBattle · 04/02/2019 21:28

So they say 'yes, they are all vaccinated' then 2 weeks later a new child starts and they now have to say 'they are no longer all vaccinated' and you would know which dc isn't, which you have no right to.

dementedpixie · 04/02/2019 21:28

Unvaccinated children won't affect your child if he is vaccinated. What difference would it make if a couple aren't vaccinated?

TiredMama90 · 04/02/2019 21:28

I just worry, although he's vaccinated it doesn't mean he's 100% protected.

I know it sounds silly but I'm a ProVaxxer and don't think it's fair others can let their unvaccinated kids run around with others.

If he'll be fine because he's vaccinated then il take that.

OP posts:
LL83 · 04/02/2019 21:28

I wouldn't worry about it as your child is vaccinated.

pootleposeyperkin · 04/02/2019 21:30

He will have had contact with unvaccinated people already just by going out and about. You're being ridiculous

NaughtToThreeSadOnions · 04/02/2019 21:30

But but qhats the risk of your child being around unvaccinated chiodren? The idea of vaccinations is even if he is around unvaccinated children hes still protected.

I, like a few others dont understajd your logic.

InDubiousBattle · 04/02/2019 21:31

Haworthia, when my dc started pre school they asked to see their birth certificates and their red books, so they would have known, unless we somehow altered the books.

LL83 · 04/02/2019 21:31

Some children will be unable to have vaccines or babies who haven't had vaccines yet and they need the herd immunity from all the others, that is why people who choose not to vaccinate are selfish. Your ds will be safe.

RedemptiveCrocodile · 04/02/2019 21:32

What makes you think the teachers are "fully vaccinated" considering vaccines don't confer lifetime immunity?

TiredMama90 · 04/02/2019 21:32

@jackshouse, I got him the Flu vaccine at SuperDrug Clinic.
He had to have the jab as the spray isn't licensed for under 2's.

YABVU to even consider asking. Not your business to know, not to mention the confidentiality aspect

NaughtToThreeSadOnions · 04/02/2019 21:33

Hes fine because hes been vaccinated thats the very point.

anniehm · 04/02/2019 21:33

Unless your child is immunocompromised or allergic to the vaccine so cannot have it, there's no reason you should be worried.

TiredMama90 · 04/02/2019 21:34

I guess I can only hope one day vaccinations will become mandatory.

OP posts:
Beerflavourednipples · 04/02/2019 21:34

YABVU and frankly, ridiculous.

theSnuffster · 04/02/2019 21:34

I work in a nursery. Our registration forms ask for immunisation information. I've no idea what we do with that information. There's no way we could ever share it with other parents though!

User383673 · 04/02/2019 21:36

I know it sounds silly but I'm a ProVaxxer and don't think it's fair others can let their unvaccinated kids run around with others.

Totally agree OP, but that’s the magic of vaccines - your kid is safe! So while I totally understand your anxiety and frustration, you don’t need to worry about the risk to your kid.

Chloemol · 04/02/2019 21:37

They won’t tell you and you are being really unreasonable in even considering asking. Would you like it if s9 so e asked a question about children’s medical history which may include your child? You child is vaccinated so I really don’t see why you would even be worried about this

SPR1107 · 04/02/2019 21:38

What about play barns? Parks? Toddler groups? Libraries? Etc etc.

What about when he goes to school?

I think it's unreasonable to think you can keep your child in a vaccinated bubble forever, and also unhealthy to worry about it to that extent

MamaLovesMango · 04/02/2019 21:38

I’m a Provaxxer OP but this is just daft.

  1. Preschool wouldn’t know, not for sure. There’s no legislation to prevent unvaccinated kids from going to school of any kind so anybody can say anything on the forms, it doesn’t make a difference.
  2. they can’t tell you anyway. Not even a yes or a no.
  3. your child is only awaiting his preschool boosters now surely? So should be covered. Yes, no vaccination is 100% effective but with herd immunity in the mix too, they’re pretty damn close!
  4. If your child is a healthy active child, they are in contact with all sorts of people all the time and exposed to goodness knows what. By your logic, you should just keep him inside the house all day every day, just in case.

Just a heads up, once they start preschool they catch all sorts. Kids really do get the most surprising and skankiest illness when they’re mixing with eachother on a daily basis. 99% of them will be harmless and good for the immune system but you really need to prepare yourself for this so that you can act proportionately. Now is definitely the time to take any health anxiety by the horns!

icylakes · 04/02/2019 21:39

Adults of parental age most probably have not had all the same vaccinations your D.C. has had because they did not used to give the same ones.

Vaccinations work at a population level. There will always be some people who cannot have them due to medical reasons. The vaccinations still work at a population level. Your child has the most protection he can be medically be given. There is no point avoiding ordinary life. That would hinder his development in other ways.

PengAly · 04/02/2019 21:41

Sorry OP but you are being ridiculous. He is vaccinated so he is safe. You say, he will never 100% be protected, well what about whenever he leaves the house? There could be unvaccinated people. His teachers may be unvaccinated. This shouldnt matter because HE IS. And no they cannot and should not tell you. Your paranoia is very unnesesary

TiredMama90 · 04/02/2019 21:41

I appreciate all of your responses, thank you.

I won't ask the pre school.

What everyone else said.

Some of the oldest preschool children definitely will not have had the Meningitis B vaccine as it was only introduced into the NHS vaccination schedule in September 2015. My DS1 is at preschool (turns 4 this month) but we paid for him to have Men B privately because he was born a few months too early for him to be entitled to it.
