Are you sure it's gone to emergency? Mine dnever did automatically. Take out the key/card, put it back and hold the button just to be sure

Sarahandduck18 · 02/02/2019 18:00

If you have an allocated social worker you do t have to wait for that particular person if you are in an emergency situation like this. Phone and ask for the duty worker or phone the out of hours service.

www.boostpower.co.uk/help/topics/payments-and-statements/payments/how-can-i-avoid-my-meter-going-off-supply-at-the-weekend.html

Read this link. You won't be cut off this weekend.

Moogletea · 02/02/2019 18:02

Ok. Boost is operated by Ovo. There friendly disconnect periods are

Your meter won’t cut off:
• During the night – between 8pm and 8am, Monday to Friday
• Any time during the day or night on Saturday or Sunday
• Any time during English or Welsh bank holidays

So you won't go off until Monday am.

Woohoo1 · 02/02/2019 18:03

Have you spoken directly to your supplier!?

Trishthompson · 02/02/2019 18:04

I'm waiting for a call bk from supplier

Moogletea · 02/02/2019 18:05

You should call your supplier and explain your position. Ask to be be out in the PSR register as you have a child and explain that you need additional help. Are you currently paying a debt though the meter as they should help negotiate an affordable rate

GalacticChickenShit · 02/02/2019 18:07

That's good then, though there may be a problem with being cut off your gas according to the link up there (betting you'll be on the traditional gas meter that allows cut off - sods law)

Assuming your heating is gas... plenty of blankets, hot water bottles, hot drinks. Stay confined to one room as much as possible with doors and windows closed.
Do you have access to a heated blanket or even an electric heater?

Woohoo1 · 02/02/2019 18:07

Which supplier are you with!?

dementedpixie · 02/02/2019 18:12

She already said it was Boost

Trishthompson · 02/02/2019 18:12

Nice to see times have changed. When I had a key meter in the mid nineties to early 00's if your emergency (£5) ran out then the electricity went off. Phoning them did nothing, telling them you had a baby did nothing. I had a few times when I and my son lived by candlelight for an evening and night until it was morning and we could scrounge another fiver off someone.

Toffeeandcoffee · 02/02/2019 18:14

Good news, op. Take care x

Trishthompson · 02/02/2019 18:17

Hope no one else has this problem my partner spoke to them and tould them about my helth and young child so it's been sorted out so thanks to all

OP posts:
Moogletea · 02/02/2019 18:18

That's good. But do have a chat with them about the repayment rate for your debt. They have to ensure that having the prepayment meter is 'reasonable in all the circumstances'. This means that it has to be affordable. Most suppliers start with a default rate when adding debt to a meter - say £5 per fuel per week. If that is not affordable they should be able to move to a lower rate - usually £3.70 as this is the lowest rate of debt if DWP paid your bills direct through a scheme called fuel direct

Moogletea · 02/02/2019 18:21

Also if you have health issues this may not mean prepayment is reasonable for you. Do the PSR Registration which will tell them if you are vulnerable or not. For some customers with vulnerabilities prepayment really isn't an option

Biggerknickersagain · 02/02/2019 18:23

Good news OP, it's horrible this situation, I've been there.

bellabasset · 02/02/2019 18:37

Glad you're sorted for the weekend. As you have a young child you need to be on the priority register. You might also be eligible for warm home discount linked to your income and any working tax credits etc. This is £140 paid to your energy account but not all energy Companies are in the scheme. Check you're not being charged a higher rate for gas and electric

RivkaMumsnet · 02/02/2019 19:00

Hi there,

This is just out usual reminder that we at MNHQ can't know with 100% certainty that any poster is genuine, no matter who they are or how long they have been around. As frustrating as it is, we're not able to vouch for anyone here.

So we always ask everyone to remember that not everyone on the internet is who they say they are - and remind folk not to give more to another poster, either financially (in cash or gifts) or emotionally (in time or care and support) than they'd be prepared to lose if things went wrong.

OP we're really pleased to read that your supplier has been in touch and added £10 credit. We wish you all the best.

Tequilamockinbird · 02/02/2019 20:04

OP it doesn't matter if you don't use online banking. As long as you have your sort code and account number, friends or family can pay into your account from their online banking. You can then withdraw from a cash point and top up.

Pleased you sorted now, but just for future reference.

Bumblebee39 · 02/02/2019 21:45

You could ring out of hours social services? Adult services because of your health or children's for your child?
