Have you used the emergency credit on both meters?

WhyDontYouComeOnOver · 02/02/2019 17:39

I've been in that situation and yes, everything goes off if you've used the emergency fiver.

We've had to use candles and a gas heater in the past and have made it into a game for the children.

Do you have any family who could help?

GalacticChickenShit · 02/02/2019 17:41

Am I the only one who actually gets £20 electricity emergency?

Toffeeandcoffee · 02/02/2019 17:44

My neighbour is on the top up meters, I think she gets £5 if she runs out. Defo not £20 though.

Trishthompson · 02/02/2019 17:45

I've only been living at this address for 4month and don't know many people I am a diabetic and think the way people and companies treat you is shocking I've had problems with changing my bank account then going from dla to pip it all takes weeks to hear any news then wayting for payments one thing after another

Toffeeandcoffee · 02/02/2019 17:46

Are you OK, op?

Toffeeandcoffee · 02/02/2019 17:46

Sorry cross post

DisposableNN · 02/02/2019 17:47

I'm with British Gas. If you run out after 6pm on a Saturday they don't cut you off until 9am Monday - its called Family Friendly or something. They will also add credit if you are in dire straits and will take the money back weekly when you top up. But they will only do that once in a 12 month period.

GalacticChickenShit · 02/02/2019 17:47

Strange. Mine is definitely 20

Your local council will have an out of hours number for help with food and meters if you have a child.

Out of hours social work so Google the number if possible

Trishthompson · 02/02/2019 17:49

I have a social worker but even thaye don't do anything and it takes days to get hold of her

Telling us how little money you have can't help.

Who is your supplier and how much each of gas and electric do you have?

DisposableNN · 02/02/2019 17:50

My electric emergency is £5 and gas is £6

Trishthompson · 02/02/2019 17:51

Looking for tips and advice to help get me though until Monday

Can you ask a neighbour? I wouldn’t mind lending a neighbour a fiver for gas for a child. Even if I didn’t get it back at least I know a child had heat

LuckyLou7 · 02/02/2019 17:52

Your supplier won't cut off your energy supply on a Saturday night, not when you have a child, and are diabetic. You have internet access so contact them, either through their website/Facebook page/Twitter account.

TheDarkPassenger · 02/02/2019 17:52

Also, I don’t think they can cut you off on a weekend anymore?

Do you have anything you can pawn or sell?

DisposableNN · 02/02/2019 17:52

Who is your supplier?

Hugglessnuggles · 02/02/2019 17:53

I have £15 emergency with Utilita. Ours is something like If your emergency runs out after 4pm Week days it carries on giving it to you until 10am. If you run out after 4pm Friday, it will Carry on until 10am Monday morning.

LuckyLou7 · 02/02/2019 17:53

Also Google out of hours social worker and call them for support.

Sweetpotatoaddict · 02/02/2019 17:54

There is some sort of register when vulnerable people live in a house, think it’s children under 3 and elderly that means they don’t cut you off. Worth checking to see if you are on if, What a difficult situation op.

LaurieFairyCake · 02/02/2019 17:56

There us ALWAYS a social worker on duty.

And yes if you call the out of hours number they WILL help you.

MuddyMoose · 02/02/2019 17:57

Can you not get a family member to send £20 to your bank, withdraw it & top up?

I think everyone's exhausted any other suggestion. There's no way you can 'cheat' the meter so without being able to borrow or phone the company to give you some temporary credit then I really don't know what else to suggest.

Moogletea · 02/02/2019 17:58

Suppliers have friendly credit periods when you won't be disconnected during periods when it would be hard to top up eg evenings , bank holidays etc. Who is your supplier as you can check ? Obviously once the friendly period runs out the meter will disconnect but if you have a child at the property you may be covered by safety net rules which mean you shouldn't be without energy during winter moratorium period (Oct to April)
