AIBU to ask what the hell is this we've inherited

My Dsis & I have just been going through some boxes our dad sent over mostly bits from our nan who was a big collector.
Most things are identifiable but what the hell is this?
I'm going for a weird chamber pot or maybe store flour? You wouldn't want to muddle the two up though Envy

cindersrella they have too many holes for salt and pepper and the engraving looks like strawberry flower and leaf, and the pots themselves are a bit strawberry shaped

Sickof both your original piccies did attach. They are beautiful... I wants 'em my precious Grin

Sickoffamilydrama · 02/02/2019 15:04

@CuriousaboutSamphire it's bottle sized see photo but doesn't work for a long bottle.
I'm remember seeing it in my nan's house but can't recall what with.

Oh! That might work for dregs though. Only a slight tilt and it does seem to focus on the base of the neck of the bottle, where you'd want the dregs to settle.

Though seeing it I'm not sure it would be all that useful... sieve would be easier!

But it isn't a snifter warmer after all!

Thanks for the picture Smile

Wingedharpy · 02/02/2019 15:08

Surely, it's for warming 1 brandy glass.
Wide part holds the bowl part of the glass and narrow part holds the stem.
Flame will then be under the bowl of the glass which is resting on it's side.

endofthelinefinally · 02/02/2019 15:09

Gosh is that jade inlaid in the silver?

CuriousaboutSamphire · 02/02/2019 15:10

Another picture required Grin

Sickoffamilydrama · 02/02/2019 15:10

@CuriousaboutSamphire
I think your right maybe one for caster and one for icing as the holes are slightly bigger on one?
@endofthelinefinally yes definitely going to insure my Dsis and I googled the silver teapot and nearly fell over its £1500-2500. We are keeping it as engraved with our grandfather's initials.

You need to get along to Antiques Roadshow.

endofthelinefinally · 02/02/2019 15:12

Sigh.
My mum's antiques were all stolen.
Mil only collected tat, except for her jewellery, which was also stolen.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 02/02/2019 15:13

That sounds right for strawberry sugars then. I love the twisted stem... I've not seen anything like them before.

My DSis collects cruetts, I'd have fought her for those!!

Sickoffamilydrama · 02/02/2019 15:13

@Wingedharpy that would make sense just not got any brandy glasses but my cheapo wine glass shows it.

That looks better! Back to it being a snifter warmer!

Thanks for this thread. Lovely way to warm up a freezing Saturday afternoon!

Sickoffamilydrama · 02/02/2019 15:18

@endofthelinefinally sorry to hear that end of the line.
This is the dregs she died about ten years ago and my dad kept lots but has now moved house having Googled some of the value of this lot that our dad said to go keep or charity I dread to think how much the decent stuff was worth!
We are only keeping what we like or is useful though 😉

We have a salt pig, it's fairly small but so handy, it lives near the cooker and the salt has always been fine and never got damp

ChesterGreySideboard · 02/02/2019 15:20

Salt pig and a brandy warmer.

You put the brandy in a large brandy glass.

Ikabod · 02/02/2019 15:21

That's a salt cellar.

Sickoffamilydrama · 02/02/2019 15:23

OMG I've just remembered her jewellery collection not sure what happened to it, she left her granddaughters a ring each and grandsons a piece of silver.
I suppose how lovely from what I gather and having seen their wedding picture they had nothing their business is still running 70 odd years later & employing people that's the best legacy.

GnothiSeafton · 02/02/2019 15:23

What absolutely beautiful pieces - including the salt pig! The sugar shakers, if that's what they are, are stunningly unusual.

You need to take them all to a reputable valuer/auctioneer to get them valued properly.

Bowchicawowow · 02/02/2019 15:27

The salt pig would look lovely with an ivy plant in it. I have a couple of things my grandparents left. They are worthless to anybody else and nobody in the family wanted them but they are priceless to me

Ikabod · 02/02/2019 15:30

The weird Aladdin's lamp thing is for pouring red wine without the sediment.. you light the candle and rest the wine on it while you're pouring, so you can see when the sediment is about to come out. Our local Chinese restaurant had a similar one.

Sickoffamilydrama · 02/02/2019 15:30

Just kicking myself I should have looked at the box it labelled with brandy warmer and other things!

OP posts:
CuriousaboutSamphire · 02/02/2019 15:31

You have a box with a label, listing the contents?

You muppett Grin Grin

But it wouldn't have been as much fun if you had read it first!

Sickoffamilydrama · 02/02/2019 16:06

Not all the contents no just a scribble on the cardboard box lid.
We've decided we'll go for a valuation of it all I think just in case!

CuriousaboutSamphire · 02/02/2019 16:16

OOh! that's exciting. I hope you find out what they all really are!
