Not that I have a crack addiction. I have things to do and can’t tear myself away. Does anyone else think this?

Well, I've never taken crack, but yes, I agree. I had to get blocking software (called "Self Control") for the first time, just to stop myself from reading MN too much. MN is the only thing on the blocking list. I have to switch Self Control on when I need to get some work done.

longtimelurkerhelen · 02/02/2019 15:33

@Time40 This is clearly what i'm lacking. I have been on here nearly all day, apart from a brief washing up and tidy session (you have to treat yourself sometimes).

I deleted mumsnet a little while ago on my phone saying that’s it, I’m coming off it. Lasted half a day. Been on it for 10 years plus. I’m completely addicted.

halfwitpicker · 02/02/2019 17:20

Very addictive. I no longer read books. My literacy skills have regressed. I have to think really hard to use the right words.

^^. This.

Pre MN I used to be quite bright Confused

Drogosnextwife · 02/02/2019 17:22

Yup as soon as I have 10 mins to myself it's the first thing I do. That might make me sound a bit sad.

Drogosnextwife · 02/02/2019 17:24

I also stopped reading books Blush, I have bought several recently to try and get back into it but there is no contest at bedtime between a book or MN!

BusySnipingOnCallOfDuty · 02/02/2019 17:27

YANBU.

I started coming here for the schadenfreude in late November I think it was.

Its just since I've quit facebook and suddenly have more time

AloneLonelyLoner · 02/02/2019 17:29

There’s an app????!!!!!

AloneLonelyLoner · 02/02/2019 17:32

Omg I'm on the app!!! It's a revelation!

areyoubeingserviced · 02/02/2019 17:34

Agree about not reading books anymore. I used to be a voracious reader.
I was supposed to spend some time reading during my Summer holiday last year.
I spent all my downtime on MN

Bumblebee39 · 02/02/2019 17:34

@Drogosnextwife

Well if it makes you sad then you are in company. I'm definitely a sad one too Grin

I've tried to give up...MN sucks my time away (all MNs fault obviously)...I should be reading more books and some posters are dicks. I am way to busy to be on here all the time.

Then I decide I deserve to relax for 5 minutes and an hour is gone.

I justify my addiction by telling myself that I learn lots of useful things (like different uses for a sandwich toaster) and I'm not on Facebook so...

BunnyTeapot · 02/02/2019 17:40

Yes

IfyouseeRitaMoreno · 02/02/2019 17:44

What I love about the MN homepage is that the ads and the main topic pages are all about benign stuff like breastfeeding, nappies, toddler tantrums etc, making casual passers by think that we are just shiny shiny mums lovingly and innocently discussing our children between our embroidery, cups of tea and quests to find the best washing detergent for our darlings’ delicate skin.

It’s only when you venture into the chat topics that you realise how caustic and funny and rude everyone is.

hazandduck · 02/02/2019 17:52

Ha totally @ifyouseeRitaMoreno

I am fully addicted and need help. DH has even told me so. MN got me through some tough times when we were TTC and then through the sleep deprived newborn stage and I’ve just stayed ever since.

And I haven’t tried crack per se but was horribly hooked on it’s more sociable and fun, but still bloody addictive, sibling, coke.

username10001 · 02/02/2019 17:54

Yup and a bit like a crack addiction I don't tell anyone. No one knows I'm a Mumsnetter Grin

Neversurrender65 · 02/02/2019 18:19

It’s been an eye opener for me. I am sure some of the help threads are wonderful, but oh goodness, the vigilante posse on some of the chat threads give little hope for some offspring growing up well balanced and normal. I’ve just been reading one thread that is so bad the gutter press have picked up on it. Is this normal for MN?😲

IfyouseeRitaMoreno · 02/02/2019 18:21

No one knows I'm a Mumsnetter

Same here. It takes me a long time knowing someone before I reveal that I am a feminist, a Mumsnetter or a Dolly Parton fan.

NothingOnTellyAgain · 02/02/2019 18:22

Never tried crack

MN is very addictive
Not as addictive as crack though I suspect
And much cheaper
And much less adverse effect on health

Dairyqueen2 · 02/02/2019 18:24

YANBU - I wait til the rest of the family have gone to bed then stay up on MN til 1am! Blush

MyFootHurts · 02/02/2019 18:51

I to used to be a voracious reader, now it's just Mumsnet at every available minute. I deliberately left my social media devices at home when I went on holiday recently and I read about 6 books, since I've been home... None :(

MyFootHurts · 02/02/2019 18:53

Mind you, it's been a while since I read a book that's made me laugh til I cry, but some of the Mumsnet classics will do that to me.
