DH has d&v, 8 week old now vomiting

Posting here for traffic and help / advice.

DH has d&v. Started this morning. He’s pretty bad - been sick 6 times. I have 2 DDs - a 2 year old and an 8 week old. When I was putting 2 year old to bed the 8 week old was sick all over me. Not normal baby sick - she must have the bug too. This resulted in a fucked up bedtime and a tantrummimg toddler.

2 year old not ill so far but refusing to sleep. Have put the Clangers on on the iPad on for her as otherwise she just screams. Hoping she conks out soon.

DH is trying to sleep in spare room.

I’m worried about 8 week old dd. I bf - I’ll keep feeding her of course. Worried about putting her down if / when she falls asleep.

This is a nightmare. Hard enough dealing with a baby and a toddler on your own and now baby is sick. Praying I don’t get sick.

Doesn't look like anyone better is answering and didn't want to read and run! It is bloody godawful when everyone is sick. I'd be worried about an 8 wk old with a D&V bug too. NHS advice about when to get help is here www.nhs.uk/conditions/diarrhoea-and-vomiting/ , and the Australian equivalent has guidelines about signs of dehydration at www.healthdirect.gov.au/diarrhoea-and-vomiting-in-children

Do not think twice about running to A&E or at least get hold of 111 if the vomiting is frequent or keeps up. I did when my 7 month old was throwing up every 15 mins (still remembered 9 yrs on!).

Could you co-sleep with the baby tonight? You'll have to ignore the 2 yr old tantruming I'm afraid. Hopefully dh will be a little better after tonight and can take charge of toddler even if he does still feel a bit shit.

Dontfartbackinanger · 31/01/2019 23:30

Thank you for replying! Toddler now asleep thank god.
Yes, I’ll co sleep with the baby that’s a good idea.
Thanks for the links.

DH can’t have anything left in him. Poor thing.

Keep a very close eye on the baby and don’t hesitate at all to go to A&E if your gut feeling is to go. If you have the energy, take an antibacterial wipe to the door handles etc to try and stop yourself or 2yo going down with it. Good luck op, hope everyone is better ASAP!

DangermousesSidekick · 31/01/2019 23:35

You'll be in for a hard couple of days but at least it's just a quick bug. Brew and Gin for when its over.

willisurvive3under2 · 31/01/2019 23:40

Poor you. Hopefully you won't get it but if you do get it, DH should be over it by then. Make sure you have Dioralyte as you'll need to stay hydrated for BFing. I would cosleep with baby - perhaps put a couple of large muslins/towels down as it'll save you having to strip down/remake a massive bed multiple times if baby is sick. Keep an eye on baby's wet nappies and keep feeding - she'll hopefully be over it soon!

Dontfartbackinanger · 31/01/2019 23:48

Towels is a great idea. Thanks. I’ll try and get diaoralyte in the morning...it’s Sod’s law that it’s bloody feeezing and snowing here tonight.
Hopefully it’s a 24 hour thing and DH better in the morning.

I'd put a couple of towels over your toddler's bed too, just in case.

Hope things are better soon.

BlancheM · 01/02/2019 00:00

We've just all the had the 24 bug. Honestly it hit us adults hard but the babies were fine other than the initial bit of sick. It's crap but it's short-lived crap! Thanks

Baby cow by name, baby cow by nature.

Caterina99 · 01/02/2019 00:16

A vomiting bug is not the same as a cold. And it can be very serious for small children and babies who can get dehydrated very quickly. Also breastfeeding mothers.

Hope you are all OK tonight. Been there (but without the tiny baby thank god) and it’s utterly miserable. Hopefully if you do catch it then your DH will be sufficiently recovered to take over with the toddler tomorrow.

Missingstreetlife · 01/02/2019 00:18

Not a cold baby cow. Read op. They are all chucking up. Main danger is dehydration, as long as you are getting wet nappies it's probably ok but a & e will advise you if baby seems worse, floppy or won't wake up.hope it's a quiet night

babycow38 · 01/02/2019 00:18

Yes I get my name from loving baby cows! I'm a farmer love

oh4forkssake · 01/02/2019 00:20

@babycow38 I’ve reported your post.

OP, there’s a sickness bug doing the rounds near us so I’ve also taken a spare set of children’s bedding out of the cupboard and have it in grabbing distance in case I need it at 3am.

Would also second the diarolyte suggestion. It will make DH feel better really fast.

Hand hygiene and another vote for Dettol wipes. We are masters in this house at not letting bugs spread. And also agree if you have the slightest thought you need A&E, go. Better the toddler gets it from being in DH’s care than you risk an 8 week old being really poorly.

Good luck - I really feel for you.

Babycow, not only is your comment unnecessary but also incorrect so hardly worth posting!

OP, hope you all feel better soon. Co-sleeping is a good idea and hopefully you'll rest now you've got the toddler down to sleep. Thanks

Missingstreetlife · 01/02/2019 00:34

Don't think farmers love cows, farming is quite cruel. What's the after with posting for a bit of support. Why are you here, just to be nasty?

Missingstreetlife · 01/02/2019 00:35

Matter, not after

DoctorDread · 01/02/2019 00:35

Grim OP. I remember being there when my three were teenies.
And Confused at babycow's unnecessarily vitriolic rants. .

Eh, what now?!

What on earth has class got to do with it? And what in my post told you anything about whether I’m working class or middle class or anything else?!
