Posting here for traffic and help / advice.

DH has d&v. Started this morning. He’s pretty bad - been sick 6 times. I have 2 DDs - a 2 year old and an 8 week old. When I was putting 2 year old to bed the 8 week old was sick all over me. Not normal baby sick - she must have the bug too. This resulted in a fucked up bedtime and a tantrummimg toddler.

2 year old not ill so far but refusing to sleep. Have put the Clangers on on the iPad on for her as otherwise she just screams. Hoping she conks out soon.

DH is trying to sleep in spare room.

I’m worried about 8 week old dd. I bf - I’ll keep feeding her of course. Worried about putting her down if / when she falls asleep.

This is a nightmare. Hard enough dealing with a baby and a toddler on your own and now baby is sick. Praying I don’t get sick.

Nope. Not in the slightest.

DoctorDread · 01/02/2019 00:50

I think someone needs a little lie down in a dark room!

Anyway OP - hope your night isn't too awful.

OP, when DS was newborn DP had a vomiting bug (really horrid noro style), and I had mastitis simultaneously and narrowly avoided hospitalisation - I remember it well, and still with some horror, so I really feel for you.

Make sure you stay well hydrated, it’ll help hydrate the baby.
Keep an eye on wet nappies.
Don’t feel bad about iPad, junk snacks or outright bribery with the toddler for the next few days.
Definitely call 111 if you’re at all worried about the baby.
Try not to worry about your DP- he’ll be over the worst soon enough. And chuck him a pack of antibac wipes if you have one t hand- tell him to wipe all door handles etc. That he touches

Best of luck and lots of sympathy for you all

Mines a little older at 6 months but we’ve just had a vomiting big too. Keep an eye on wet nappies and if you’re worried call 111. We ended up in the children’s hospital for dehydration because he just couldn’t keep any fluids down for days.

Put your OH with the 2 year old. Do not hesitate to take the baby to the hospital if they start to get floppy. Thanks to ridiculous security process at the airport our eldest got really sick when she was about 9 months old. She went downhill very quickly and as she became more dehydrated it became harder for the doctors to get fluids in her. Once she had fluids she was ok after a couple of hours. The recovery was unbelievably quick.

@Dontfartbackinanger how are things this morning?

Dontfartbackinanger · 01/02/2019 10:16

Not too bad - thank you. Baby wasn’t sick again and fed ok in the night. Toddler and me also ok although she was awake most of the night as was I. She often sleeps through for 11 hours so a bit unfortunate that she chose last night to be up all night! But I’m just relieved the baby is ok.
Thanks so much for everyone’s help and advice in the night. It’s a worry when your baby is so young and the person you normally discuss things with is incapacitated!
Poor DH has stopped d&v but is exhausted and in bed.

Glad it’s all calmed down a bit. Hope you manage to have a restful weekend.

No parenting decisions are bad ones for the next couple of days - use whatever means of bribery necessary to keep the toddler quiet so you can all get some rest!!

Dontfartbackinanger · 01/02/2019 18:59

If only she understood bribery!!! Still numberblocks and hey dugee are coming in handy!

Glad your baby was ok, OP, and that you and your toddler haven't succumbed yet.

What I remember of these bugs from when mine were small is endless, endless hand-washing. Proper hand-washing. Clean towels. Don't share towels with anyone else who has had any episode of D or V. Throw your toothbrush away if it has been in the same room as your DH when he was sick. Antibacterial wipes and gels don't work against noro (etc), so don't rely on them: D&V bugs are viral rather than bacterial, so antibacs are useless. However, soap and warm water do work. We always managed to isolate the one who came down with something, and I am quite sure it was because we took these precautions. Good luck!

Hope you and the kids stay well. My now 15 month old had a vomiting bug at roughly the same age and I was worried as my 4 year old had never had anything like it at such a young age. Kept BF (though loads was being vomited right up) and he was fine thankfully. My DH and I did have to take it in turns one night to sit up with him asleep upright on our chest as every time he lay down he would vomit. Thankfully that was only one night and he bounced back quickly.

Glad things are looking better!
