For these wedding flowers?

And could you make them yourself?

Been quoted 180 for mine, a bridesmaid, a flower girl & 3 button holes. I think it’s really expensive😩😩

I think they are beautiful. I think you could deffintly do them your self, especially to go with your theme . (Which sounds lovely) look at wholesale shops online, or even maybe fake ones?

Failing that though 180 doesn't sound crazy crazy.

TheTurnOfTheScrew · 31/01/2019 22:14

I had something similar in size and style (different blooms though), and just my bouquet was £50 fifteen years ago, so I reckon that's not unreasonable.

Mummysharkdoodoodoo · 31/01/2019 22:15

It’s in July so not sure if it’s out of season?

OP posts:
Atalune · 31/01/2019 22:15

Daisy/marguerites
Scabacious
Love in the mist
Lavender
Lily of the valley/babies breath

Something green....can’t think though!

Go to a piper flower market and buy in bulk. You can make the bouquets dead easy and watch a couple of YouTube tutorials for the button holes!

VWpurse · 31/01/2019 22:16

The issue is the timing. You have enough to dono the day or day before...

ExFury · 31/01/2019 22:19

If you have a Country Baskets near you they do amazingly good artificial flowers. Gives you time to practise making the bouquets up.

We did roses for my friend’s wedding in December - bride, 6 bridesmaids and 8 buttonholes (bought pre made) for around £50 all in. They were very realistic looking

Zwischenwasser · 31/01/2019 22:29

Lavender
Mayweed
Shepherds purse

Hard to tell the rest as it’s a blurry photo

Trouble is some of those are really seasonal, so it would cost pence for the flowers in summer, but £££ out of season I guess

Zwischenwasser · 31/01/2019 22:30

Nigella
Clover
Scabious

Zwischenwasser · 31/01/2019 22:31

Oh just seen, no they should be mostly in season in June/July

Hugglessnuggles · 31/01/2019 22:31

I’m curious and I don’t mean to be disrespectful at OP. But what is a war themed wedding? Because when I think of war, I think of death, dying, loss, tears and heart break. How does that work as a wedding?🙈

VWpurse · 31/01/2019 22:33

I assumed 40s theme

VWpurse · 31/01/2019 22:33

Shepherd’s purse, yes that’s it!

Guineapiglet345 · 31/01/2019 22:34

Just go to a supermarket and DIY, you can practice beforehand.

Mummysharkdoodoodoo · 31/01/2019 22:35

It’s a wedding where you are literally just doing it to become husband and wife. Not worried about the big fancy things, abit rushed. Just like the wives would want to marry their husbands before they went to war. I have a 40s wedding dress and dp has a 40s suit. We are having a few friends and that’s it. No party afterwards but we are getting married in a church.

Theimpossiblegirl · 31/01/2019 22:36

I read the op as 1940s wartime, so thought vintage tea dresses and tea parties rather than death and misery. I'd refer to it as a forties vintage theme rather than wartime, op.

budgiegirl · 31/01/2019 22:38

I think £180 for three bouquets and three button holes sounds fairly good,

I expect you could do them cheaper yourself. But do you want to spend the time before the wedding travelling to shops for the flowers, timing it so they are at their best on the day, then the night before the wedding arranging and storing the flowers. If you do, and it wouldn’t stress you, then go for it, otherwise you need to be prepared to pay for the service of someone else to do this, on top of the cost of the actual flowers.

There are lots of things you could do for yourself to save money for a wedding - make your own cake, DIY table decorations and favours, balloons, room decoration, food etc. And many people do this, often with family/friends help.

But if you want someone else to do it, of course it will cost more than the actual cost of the materials used.

Wow they’re gorgeous. Less string than that OP (everything rationed) but they’d be lovely.

Chingling · 31/01/2019 22:49

Have you looked at any pictures of wartime weddings and their flowers?

Purpleartichoke · 31/01/2019 22:51

I would check your local sources and see what it will cost to buy the flowers yourself. You may be surprised at how much they cost. You can definitely save money going the diy route, but it may not be all that much.

Surfingtheweb · 31/01/2019 22:51

You could easily make those yourself. But make sure you do it the day before & wear rubber gloves so you don't stain your fingers before the wedding Smile

CheesecakeAddict · 31/01/2019 22:55

I paid 200 for white roses and other white flowers and 4 button holes. I wouldn't pay 180 for a bunch of daisies

Drogosnextwife · 31/01/2019 22:55

IthinkIsawahairbrushbackthere

That is a fantastic idea! I'm stealing that!

OP I think those bouquets are beautiful, just the type of think I would want and I think they match your requirements pretty well.

WaxOnFeckOff · 31/01/2019 23:05

Now, i've not used these people so not recommending/advertising, but google says that you could essentially order in some hand tied wild flower bouquets for cheaper. you could pluck a few flowers from each for a buttonhole or order and extra set for the same purpose.

I think that cottage garden style flowers tend to be pretty expensive from a florist. There’s not the same demand for them as lilies, roses, etc, as they are mostly easy to grow in your on garden. Plus, I’m not sure what their ‘shelf life’ would be and whether they’d flop pretty quickly. Might be best to find out if any friend/family member has these in their garden (or could arrange to have them - most of those look like annuals to me) and would consider doing them for you .....
