to think that crystals really do heal the mind?!

This is intended as a fun/interesting discussion!

I have a friend who is very spiritual and loves crystals. I've always been open minded (to most things!) and thought I'd have a look at purchasing some myself.

I think crystals are incredibly beautiful so I'm naturally drawn to them and I do feel like they're working when I meditate with them. Does anybody else use crystals... if so may I ask which ones and what for? Or has anybody had negative experiences?!

Would love to hear your stories and especially your suggestions!

If you don't believe in healing crystals I completely understand! If we were all the same we'd be boring! Please still feel free to comment but without hate or prejudice!

Hard hat on op...but they are beautiful.

Tbh i beleive that anything that makes you happy is good for mental health. Not sure if the vibrstions heal but i guess sound can heal .

LaurieFairyCake · 31/01/2019 14:24

Well I love them because they are beautiful and I like holding them when I'm meditating or focusing.

But I know it's the meditation part that 'works'. I have really large pieces of rose quartz around the place - they're my favourite.

ItsameAmario · 31/01/2019 14:25

I don't think YABU.

People are free to believe in God and Jesus.

Personally I would put more believe in a piece of crystal that is millions of years old and has taken in some of the energy of the earth its been lay in over a character in a book.

But then I've always been drawn to nature.

malificent7 · 31/01/2019 14:25

The only thing i don't like is that they are mined...not good for planet Earth.

WellErrr · 31/01/2019 14:25

It’s not something I ‘believe’ in, but who am I to say?

Beautiful things do lift people’s moods, even nice landscapes etc. I think it’s all v interesting.

Batteriesallgone · 31/01/2019 14:26

Oh absolutely yes I think they can aid meditation, and meditation is good for your mental health, which is in turn good for your physical health.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 31/01/2019 14:27

If they are enabling you to focus and meditate, then I can see how they would help you. I have t tried using crystals - for me, aromatherapy and things like music and poetry help me (I suffer from depression, anxiety and low self esteem).

I don’t think there is any one-size-fits-all solution, but I also think you will never know if something might help you unless you try.

I hope it helps.

aethelgifu · 31/01/2019 14:27

Whatever works for people! As long as it doesn't harm enough. YANBU.

aethelgifu · 31/01/2019 14:28

harm anyone, sorry.

Elphame · 31/01/2019 14:29

The ethics of crystals are horrible. Environmental pollution, child slavery, terrible working conditions and organised crime.

Yes they are beautiful but the price is too high

Calvinsmam · 31/01/2019 14:30

I use crystals but I don’t necessarily ‘believe’ in them, they are more for intention setting and focusing myself on what I feel I need.

woodentop123 · 31/01/2019 14:36

Some really interesting points, here! Thanks for commenting, guys!

LaurieFairyCake I have a piece of Rose Quartz, it’s beautlful isn’t it!

ItsameAmario Great point actually!

Calvinsmam Fantastic point! I’m wondering if it’s more that I’m chanelling “good vibes” and doing that all by myself and the crystals aren’t actually aiding in anything?!

Elphame I didn’t know about the work ethics behind it actually, this sounds terrible. Are all crystals sourced this way (child slavery)?

This.

woodentop123 · 31/01/2019 14:39

BertrandRussell, malificent7 made a GREAT point! In the same way somebody else might find peace by reading a book or listening to music etc. I guess we all tick differently and there's no "one size fits all"!

I collected hundreds of crystals as a child, and I've always felt that they can bring a sense of wellbeing. I have them all over the house now and they bring me a smile when I see them. I think believing that something is working can be very powerful in terms of wellbeing, and be it a placebo or not if it works then I don't see the harm in it.

I've recently bought some crystal sound bowls, and playing them brings me to a sense of calm I can't achieve with meditation. The tones they create are wonderful. It's a nice ritual to have after a busy or stressful day and is effective in calming my mind.

It does seem to be becoming a new fad, lots of 'goddess healing circles' and 'Woolf moon meditation' being advertised to me on Instagram which does seem like total bullshit. And I do have to question the 'positive vibes' coming from crystals that weren't ethically obtained. Crystals seem to be much cheaper than when I was building my collection 15 years ago, and while I like a bargain, things sold cheaply are rarely obtained without some suffering along the way.

DoneLikeAKipper · 31/01/2019 14:42

People have a long history of taking empty or even make believe things and convincing themselves there’s ‘energy’ or ‘higher power’ to them. If that sort of false-hope makes you happy, op, carry on. Though agree with others that many of these things come at a cost to others.

woodentop123 · 31/01/2019 14:43

silkpyjamasallday, I love your post, thank you!

I'm so captivated by their uniqueness and how beautiful they are - this alone draws me in enough feel a certain way. Maybe it's a complete load of crap but I'm definitely a believer in "don't knock it til you've tried it" and if something works why not give it a go!

I'd be so interested to see your collection!

That's really nicely put Smile

woodentop123 · 31/01/2019 14:46

DoneLikeAKipper Very fair point! I don't particularly believe it's "false hope" as you could say that about an array of things such as any form of religion, or believing our loved ones watch over us when they pass away. Although I'm willing to accept that it may be a load of crap, I'm also willing to give it a chance as who am I to say it's not true I guess!

The ethics though does concern me so I'll definitely be doing more research into where the crystals are coming from with regards to child labour! Thanks for your post!

My SIL is crystal crazy and I think she is five types of nuts with a loopy topping. She swings crystal over food to determine if it has good or bad energy. At a family brunch she was swinging a crystal over a carton on orange juice. Seriously, if orange juice produced that much energy it could make itself known through tetra pak would we be using it to power cars. She did sherbet dip dab once - you crystal crazies may be happy to know sherbet dip dabs have good energy.

recrudescence · 31/01/2019 14:49

Although I’m far too polite to say anything, I think if a friend professed a faith in the power of crystals I would think them a bit absurd. Sorry.

malificent7 · 31/01/2019 14:51

Dd loves them...she is only 10 though. She just finds them beautiful and has a large collection.

pigsDOfly · 31/01/2019 14:53

If the beauty of something makes you feel a certain way, whatever it is, then yes it very well might make you feels it's healing your mind.

I used to live near the sea and just sitting by the sea watching the tide and possibly an amazing sun set would make me feel very restful and happy and therefore lifted my mood if I was feeling at all down.

Crystals having intrinsic powers to heal the mind? It's a piece of rock.

woodentop123 · 31/01/2019 14:54

KC225 Ha!!! I definitely won't be swinging crystals over my food any time soon - I didn't even know that was a thing!

I guess it's more about how open minded people are. I don't believe in any form of religion but also don't believe I'm in a position to be able to tell somebody with 100% certainty that "God doesn't exist". We believe what we believe!

recrudescence I appreciate your politeness Wink
