to think that crystals really do heal the mind?!

This is intended as a fun/interesting discussion!

I have a friend who is very spiritual and loves crystals. I've always been open minded (to most things!) and thought I'd have a look at purchasing some myself.

I think crystals are incredibly beautiful so I'm naturally drawn to them and I do feel like they're working when I meditate with them. Does anybody else use crystals... if so may I ask which ones and what for? Or has anybody had negative experiences?!

Would love to hear your stories and especially your suggestions!

If you don't believe in healing crystals I completely understand! If we were all the same we'd be boring! Please still feel free to comment but without hate or prejudice!

I grew up in Glastonbury, where every other shop is one selling crystals

If your theory is true, it would be a place of total mental stability

Go and spend 24 hours there and then come back and tell me if you still believe in your theory - 80% of the town are total fruitloops

DoneLikeAKipper · 31/01/2019 15:26

as you could say that about an array of things such as any form of religion, or believing our loved ones watch over us when they pass away.

I could and do say such things about all of the above. It’s utterly made up, but people feed off the false-positivity which enables them to create a sudo-positive mentality. Obviously this gets them through life, and as long as it doesn’t harm others then of course why should anyone take that away? However, let us not pretend ‘there might be something’ to any of it, it’s all in the human mind.

sparechange That's very interesting! As stated in my OP, I'm fairly new to the world of crystals so I don't necessarily have a "theory" but I do believe different things work for different people.

I also believe that we can never be 100% and I don't believe that my crystals will allow me to have a completely happy, healthy (minded) life 24/7. I do believe they may aid in certain aspects such as helping to think about situations differently etc.

Maybe this explains why Glastonbury isn't a state of total mental stability (I've never been I'm just pinching your words there haha). But perhaps you'd agree that I don't believe even the best medicine out there can provide that!

Tbh i think there is some herbal stimulation going on in glastonburyGrin it truly is bonkers ive visted a couple of times and you can feel the looniness

woodentop123 · 31/01/2019 15:31

DoneLikeAKipper I see. Well you believe what you believe and the rest of the world believes whatever they believe, I guess!

Maybe one day I'll be knocking on Heaven's door asking for forgiveness for not believing - although I'm sure I won't!

My point was more that they're all opinions, none of us can prove these things do or don't work/exist. I just don't rule most things out just because it seems far fetched! :-)

Well, I believe in one God,Father Almighty,One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church, Communion of Saints, Forgiveness of Sins, Resurrection of the Body and life everlasting. SO .........
Nowt so odd about crystals ......... Smile. One man's meat etc.
Whatever gets you through the day.

jay55 · 31/01/2019 15:39

Using them for meditation sounds great. Sticking them in you vag like Gwyneth not so much.

M3lon · 31/01/2019 15:40

I think there are certain aspects of holding/staring at a crystal that have been proven to work (the it makes me feel happy because it looks beautiful stuff) and certain aspects that are provably bollocks (anything that references energy, resonance or quantum mechanics).

Oh god - why why why did I just go an look to see if using quantum mechanics to 'explain' the 'power' of crystals was still a thing?!!? Now I have an unbearable rage issue to deal with

M3lon · 31/01/2019 15:43

wooden its very very easy to prove if crystals have an effect as long as you can clearly define the effect you wish to measure.

For example, does holding a crystal lower your blood pressure? Well the answer will be quite possibly yes, if you know you are holding it or not, but probably no if you don;t know.

The point is these things are easily measurable and not a mystery at all.

DoneLikeAKipper · 31/01/2019 15:51

My point was more that they're all opinions, none of us can prove these things do or don't work/exist.

It’s not opinions and beliefs though. There is no evidence or actual proof of anything ‘woo’ in the world, from crystals to religion. It’s not a ‘belief’ not recognise these things as being valid, until there’s a single shred of evidence that magic is real, then it simply is not. However, if convincing themselves it is real to give themselves a positive mindset helps people, why not.

Crystals are merely pretty stones. They have no natural energy (in healing/luck/whatever else terms), no special powers other than what people imagine upon them. Just like tarot cards, crystal balls, lighting white candles, hugging trees or reading anything woo including all religious literature. It’s all in the human psyche, which is obviously a huge and complex thing (especially since it keeps inventing gods and deciding they’re real - the human imagination is quite a scary thing at times).

Course we can disprove it. Double blind studies. Science, that's what it's for.

MrsTerryPratcett · 31/01/2019 15:57

Be like Han.

MrsJayy · 31/01/2019 15:59

Wait a minute! Gwynnie puts crystals in her foof is that before or after the steam clean?

MrsTerryPratcett · 31/01/2019 16:03

I put crystals in my food. Mmmmm salt.

Patroclus · 31/01/2019 16:21

This about sums up the modern world. Western women buying massively unethical minerals and convincing themselves they have some 'spiritual' use- why? because they feel they're a boring person and this makes them interesting? some sort of fantasy? I see it a lot with women having a mid-life crises, they suddenly get into crystals and Mediums and various crap. Sorry but its ridiculous. Read a book, paint or listen to/make some music instead. That really does mean something.

Better than sports cars and prostitutes, right? If we're doing tired, sexist stereotypes.

jellyfrizz · 31/01/2019 16:36

He said in the crystal glass section of any department store you see people come in and while they're there they're always giggling and laughing. He swears this is the crystals.

Isn't it nervous laughter because they are terrified of banging into something and breaking everything? Just me? Blush

LuggsaysNotaWomen · 31/01/2019 16:38

I like them but I don’t “believe” in them. I do think the placebo effect is a thing and is probably what is at work when people “use” the.

However, I won’t buy them anymore due to ethical concerns.

I don’t need a piece of pretty rock in my life so badly that a child has to suffer for me to have it.

RedHatsDoNotSuitMe · 31/01/2019 16:48

You're probably right jellyfrizz. I think that a far more reasonable explanation.

Missingstreetlife · 31/01/2019 16:56

Glastonbury is a theme park for hippies. Some lovely and some extremely dysfunctional.

Missingstreetlife · 31/01/2019 17:00

Dowsing, holding a pendant over something for information, is about the dowser's energy and perception. Similar to water divining.

Momdeguerre · 31/01/2019 17:01

I believe in the existence of crystals, I don't believe in them having any type of health benefit. I agree they might make you feel happy, especially set in a nice ring. I really do object to them being flogged to people, it's on a par with the whole Himalayan salt lamps stuff. Fine if you are able to defend yourself from snake oil, not cool when you see people's fears or vulnerabilities being exploited.

DorindaLestrange · 31/01/2019 17:05

Vag crystals?! Is that really a thing?

I have a couple of very pretty crystals, but I can honestly say that never once have I thought of popping them up my foof maybe that's where I've been going wrong

WereYouHareWhenIWasFox · 31/01/2019 17:07

I believe that those crystal skulls were crafted by the ancient inhabitants of Atlantis and that they're powerful centres of healing.
