I've been getting diazepam off my doctor for around 4 years now for when I have to travel by plane.
I normally get 7 tablets a year.
My doctor has retired now and I'm travelling to Australia in may to see my aunt and uncle.
I've just got out of the doctors (new doc) and he refused any.
Now I understand people get addictive but I get 7 tablets a year!
I have a massive fear of flying,I've tried CBT,hypnotherapy, kalms,I did a fear of flying course and nothing.
Before I was prescribed diazepam I didn't go on holiday for 7 years.
They gave me my life back (without being dramatic)
Aibu to speak to the practice manager?

They are not a long-term drug anymore! I get there are many that were addicted to them, and they are still readily available to buy from ppl who are lying to GPS to get them, the arseholes. (Not the GPs).

TaimaandRanyasBestFriend · 02/02/2019 21:52

LOL @ Ode. I just skip straight to the IV heroin myself and don't mess around with internet sprites, a dealer has no interest in pretending to be a dealer Grin.

Seline · 02/02/2019 21:53

They aren't long term as in for daily use. Nothing wrong with using a few per year.

Smotheroffive · 02/02/2019 21:53

Oh how funny IV heroine oh yes how very funny, if it actually wasn't Angry

Seline · 02/02/2019 21:54

mother jeez. I think you need a diazepam.

MrMeSeeks · 02/02/2019 21:59

What about when you're stone cold out of it in an emergency?
Yes because every person will be out of it on. 2mg of diazepam Hmm

PengAly · 02/02/2019 22:02

@Seline nope he is not normally sensitive to drugs. You seem quite adament that this is unusual but i doubt it is. If it was such a harmless drug then it wouldnt be so restricted in parts of the world

Seline · 02/02/2019 22:04

It's restricted because it's addictive if used daily and at higher doses and has high street value.

When used appropriately it's very safe. I'm confused how it barely affected me as a skinny 16 year old yet grown adults are out cold on it. I do have a high tolerance to drugs admittedly due to taking loads for chronic pain so I wonder if that's why.

TaimaandRanyasBestFriend · 02/02/2019 22:08

IV heroine

Actually, an IV heroine would indeed be something to see, how on Earth would such a heroine work on film or print? The author would have to be quite creative Hmm.

Are you always this earnest in real life?

MinniesMum1606 · 02/02/2019 22:09

I can barely feel a 2mg, I would need at least 2 10mg to knock me out, maybe the PP hubby had a fair bit more than 2g, I doubt that 2g could do knock an adult out cold, no chance.

PengAly · 02/02/2019 22:11

@Seline When used appropriately it's very safe
fair enough, thats your opinion. However, i think i'm going to believe the actual, qualified doctor on this one.

Seline · 02/02/2019 22:11

That's what I'm struggling with. 2mg is like half a glass of wine.

Smotheroffive · 02/02/2019 22:11

Were you referring to me Seline? How ironic!

Seline · 02/02/2019 22:12

Most doctors agree they're safe in small doses. No qualified doctor has stated otherwise and this mythical ruling can't be found by anyone.

anniehm · 02/02/2019 22:13

Try a private gp - if you call the reception and explain the situation they will immediately tell you if they can prescribe and the cost (the medication costs pennies no idea what they would charge for writing the prescription though). There's also online pharmacies and gp services. I've got private prescriptions for travel from a gp friend hence not knowing the real price.

PengAly · 02/02/2019 22:14

Love how people think they know more about a drug than the qualified medical professionals who spent years in education to do their job... Classic MN Aibu thread 😂

Smotheroffive · 02/02/2019 22:14

Please explain the similarities between wine (alcohol) and diazepam (benzo).

Seeing as they are the same do you know the chemical compounds and specific physiological responses at cellular level? Pleas enlighten us, as then we can all do away with diazepam anyway and just drink! Which the airline actively encourages.

End. Of. Thread. !!

Smotheroffive · 02/02/2019 22:15

Seline

PengAly · 02/02/2019 22:15

@Seline oh so now our experience is "mythical" simply because you dont agree with it?

PengAly · 02/02/2019 22:16

No qualified doctor has stated otherwise and this mythical ruling can't be found by anyone.

Oh sorry! I didnt realise you were in the room with us and his GP during that consultation Hmm

Seline · 02/02/2019 22:17

GPs aren't experts in benzos they're general practitioners. I had GPs that hadn't even heard of Ehlers Danlos so to paint them ad bastions of knowledge is a bit disingenuous.

MinniesMum1606 · 02/02/2019 22:17

Doctors say that you shouldn’t drive and/or operate heavy machinery with lots of meds and imo they’re being overly cautious, I find it quite laughable that a GP would say don’t go to work on them, not that I don’t believe the PP, I just think this doctor was being way ott.

People build up an immunity to Valium pretty quickly, if I took 1 blue (10mg) on the Monday and took Valium every day then by the next Monday I’d need more, this is why I just take them now and them, I actually quite like Valium all this talk is making me want one nowGrin

Seline · 02/02/2019 22:18

Peng I said the legislation that people have mentioned appears to be mythical as no one can find it. Not your experience

MinniesMum1606 · 02/02/2019 22:18

then

TaimaandRanyasBestFriend · 02/02/2019 22:21

I actually quite like Valium all this talk is making me want one nowgrin
