To report car across the road

dalmation101 · 30/01/2019 14:32

Neighbour further down the street seems to have stopped driving. Car is there all of the time and they seem to be using public transport instead. Checked the number plate online and it has no MOT.

Would you bother reporting it or just keep your sticky beak out?

Does this count as a parking thread...doesn't really need a drawing...

are you always such a busybody?

dalmation101 · 30/01/2019 15:17

This is what gov.uk says

"Call the police’s non-emergency number to report a car, van, motorcycle or other vehicle that does not have an MOTT_.
You can only report a vehicle with no MOT to the police if it’s being used on a road. This includes parked vehicles."

Okaaayyyy, well this is AIBU. Ok. I am BU.

OK, OP, you report them. Of course you’re so convinced that it’s not a nasty thing to do, that you’ll tell them you did it, won’t you? You’re not going to be a coward about it, are you? You’re not going to leave that poor sap wondering which of his neighbors did it, are you?

ShatnersBassoon · 30/01/2019 15:22

Am I really the only one annoyed that I pay MOT and other people don't?

Possibly. Your MOT doesn't cost more because Jeff down the road didn't yet get the MOT done on the car car he never drives.

Out of interest, did it fail the last MOT it had? I'm wondering if they're waiting to afford repairs.

Charlie97 · 30/01/2019 15:24

I'm not a complete busy body. The street is vile for parking. People are openly looking and complaining.

And you see and hear all this because you're "curtain twitching" I presume?

dalmation101 · 30/01/2019 15:26

No, because we talk!

OP posts:
Lovemusic33 · 30/01/2019 15:28

It’s taxed, it has no MOT but it’s not being driven so no real issue. It’s not harming you so I’m not sure why you are bothered,

bridgetreilly · 30/01/2019 15:28

If you live somewhere with limited parking so that other people are having to park further away because of that car, I'd be tempted to report it as abandoned.

Charlie97 · 30/01/2019 15:29

Exactly Haze, that's why I checked, as you can see people being annoyed by it.

Because you "talk" yet you say you can "see" people getting annoyed by it? No where previously have you indicated a conversation it's all you can "see" people getting annoyed!

sweeneytoddsrazor · 30/01/2019 15:29

There could be any number of reasons they havent had the mot done. Maybe they are short of money. Maybe they have a temporary medical condition that prevents them from driving and they are waiting to see what happens before they renew the mot. If they were driving with no mot then maybe complain but they aren't. The only way it affects you is parking and that is going to happen whether it stays in the same place or moves around the street. You are being a busy body.

Lovemusic33 · 30/01/2019 15:29

Paying for a MOT doesn’t give you priority on parking. We pay tax to use roads, he’s paid tax so don’t see why you have a issue?

FrogsAreMean · 30/01/2019 15:31

OP, you are just ruthless and fucking bored love!
Wind your neck in and stop twitching your curtains

Myheartbelongsto · 30/01/2019 15:31

My God, get a life.

GrumpyOlderBloke · 30/01/2019 15:35

There is nothing to debate.

Report it.

On Friday check if the tax has expired - if so report it.

Check if the insurance has expired - if so report it.

Keep checking on the first of every month and report any deficiencies.

Go on-line and find the telephone number of your neighbourhood PCSO and report it.

Keep reporting it until it gets towed and scrapped, taken off the public highway or taxed, tested and insured.

RCohle · 30/01/2019 15:36

You are a complete busybody though and I think you know that or else you wouldn't have asked.

Nobody likes a clipe.

Neeeighbourrrs...everybody needs good neeeighbourrrs. Christ.

MikeUniformMike · 30/01/2019 15:45

I live on a street with permit parking, which you pay for annually. People park leaving a big gap in front of them where because of dropped kerbs and disabled spaces they leave about half a car's length that can't be parked on.
Often it is difficult to park - a real PITA if you have a baby and heavy shopping to bring in.
A car was parked outside my front door for months. It didn't move in that time. It had a valid parking permit.
When it had flat tyres I checked if it had an MoT and tax. The MoT had run out months earlier and the tax had lapsed a few days. I reported it. The car had been there 8 months I think.
A few days later it had gone.

Comefromaway · 30/01/2019 15:52

If the car has no MOT and is parked on the pubvlic highway you can report it.

We have a drive so his car is parked there but my husband stopped driving 6 months ago (HIs car has both tax and MOT though) Its due to a medical condition.

ErickBroch · 30/01/2019 16:01

TBF if it's a busy street with not a lot of parking room and someone's car is sitting there untaxed/no MOT I would report it.

In a street I frequent often there are two cars with completely flat tires just taking up TWO spaces in a layby, only 7 spaces for the entire street of 22 houses. I will be checking if they actually taxed or not later now.

lpchill · 30/01/2019 16:11

Had same issue but it was a huge motor hone that took up three spaces in a car park forcing a lot of neighbours with kids onto a main road instead of the car park. It had no MOT and no insurance. Reported it. They called the owners and told them to insure it or get rid of it. The owners said they thought it was off road so didn't need insurance. It was moved pretty quickly. Lots of spaces for all. They now keep trying to park a caravan there instead.

dalmation101 · 30/01/2019 16:14

Turns out, I'm not the only curtain twitcher. Other neighbour says he told her he was banned for speeding and driving with no insurance. So it's going to stay put for another six months at least.

OP posts:
Ali1cedowntherabbithole · 30/01/2019 16:20

Ooh that's annoying. Especially if it limits the parking for everyone else.

I'm obviously a bad mumsnetter because I would be reporting.

PoutySprout · 30/01/2019 16:21

It has tax, but you still need an MOT to park in the street don't you?

Nope.

dalmation101 · 30/01/2019 16:23

You do. I added the quote from gov.uk earlier.
