To report car across the road

dalmation101 · 30/01/2019 14:32

Neighbour further down the street seems to have stopped driving. Car is there all of the time and they seem to be using public transport instead. Checked the number plate online and it has no MOT.

Would you bother reporting it or just keep your sticky beak out?

Does this count as a parking thread...doesn't really need a drawing...

Well maybe 'people' should just chill the fuck out.

Notwhoyouthink35 · 30/01/2019 14:56

Why would you care? They’re not driving it. Maybe they know it needs work and are short of cash?

It’s none of your business and I think you must have an incredibly boring sad life.

Jenasaurus · 30/01/2019 14:57

It looks like the owner has given up driving and using transport as he realises the MOT has lapsed and is waiting to be able to afford it before driving again.

My son was given a car by his employer (an old banger) in lieu of payment as the company was having problems, my son didn't want the car and nor was it MOT'd etc...his boss dropped it outside our house and got his friend who had followed him to drive him home.

A week later it was reported by an unknown neighbour and a crane arrived and took it away, as the paperwork hadn't changed into my sons name, his boss had a nasty surprise when they caught up with him. (my son no longer works for them) just saying you don't know the circumstances and afterwards we always viewed our neighbours as nosey old boots !

BrilliantDarling · 30/01/2019 14:59

YABVU. There could be a number of reasons they aren't using their car, plus it makes no difference to the parking as I assume they parked there anyway when they were driving it.

ShalomJackie · 30/01/2019 14:59

Maybe that is why it isn't being driven. If it is taxed then it can just park there.

bsc · 30/01/2019 15:00

If the road tax is paid, they have every right to leave it parked on the road.
If it has no MOT it would an offence to drive it, so obviously they're not.
They presumably won't be able to tax it again though (I think you need valid insurance and MOT to tax?)

alwayslearning789 · 30/01/2019 15:01

Just wondering what's in it for you OP by reporting it?

Viebienremplie · 30/01/2019 15:02

We have very limited parking where we are, it would annoy me no end of someone did this here.

I would not go so far as reporting it though, you know whose car it is so the neighbourly thing is to have a polite chat with them if something they are doing is bothering you - then you'd understand the context and how long it's likely to go on for.

alwayslearning789 · 30/01/2019 15:04

The relevant authorities will pick it up sooner or later if something is amiss.

rytonsister · 30/01/2019 15:06

if you ring 101 i guarantee no on will give two hoots.

leave it op. how long you off sick for?

Charlie97 · 30/01/2019 15:07

and you can see people are annoyed that it's always there.

How can you actually tell that people are annoyed?

dalmation101 · 30/01/2019 15:07

Another month. Better get a hobby

People are annoyed they can't park by their own house - you know what it's like in terraced streets.

DVLA will issue an automated fine as MOT records are held by them electronically now.

Ninoo25 · 30/01/2019 15:09

It’s ok to not have a MOT if it has a SORN it should be off the road and on private land. Otherwise i think it’s against the law

dalmation101 · 30/01/2019 15:10

"Being used" includes parking it on a road.

Charlie97 · 30/01/2019 15:11

People are annoyed they can't park by their own house - you know what it's like in terraced streets.

How do you actually know this? Or are you just being a busy body and deciding that you're looking into this for the good of the neighbourhood and not because you need a hobby?

PositivelyPERF · 30/01/2019 15:11

That’s a horrible thing to do. They’re not affecting you in any real way. They may not be able to afford the repairs, at this time and you want to add further financial problems by getting them fined? Maybe they have a health problem and can’t drive for a bit. They could have any reason and at least they’re being responsible and not driving it. If you do get it lifted I hope they order a bloody great skip and leave it there for the next year. Give your head a wobble.

m0vinf0rward · 30/01/2019 15:12

Yep...no SORN and no MOT or Tax = automatic fine.

RosemarysBush · 30/01/2019 15:12

Wow. You really do have too much time on your hands.

m0vinf0rward · 30/01/2019 15:12

No need to report.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 30/01/2019 15:13

I reported one I the same situation but only because parking is hard to come by in our street and having that car there regularly meant people parked partly over our drive. If it's just down the street and not causing you any bother I'd not report it.

Now if you've got any empty houses locally...Smile

QuestionableMouse · 30/01/2019 15:13

All that matters for parking on public land is road tax. Mot needs to be in place if it's been driven.

I'd personally leave well enough alone unless you want to be responsible for someone having their car seized and the associated costs that come with it.

iklboo · 30/01/2019 15:14

OP says the vehicle IS taxed.

dalmation101 · 30/01/2019 15:16

I'm not a complete busy body. The street is vile for parking. People are openly looking and complaining.

Am I really the only one annoyed that I pay MOT and other people don't?
