Are facial tattoos socially acceptable now?

I asked my god daughter (23) what she wanted for her birthday and she has asked for money towards a new tattoo, on her face (she has a few elsewhere). I have told her I won't contribute and that I think it's not a good idea. She thinks I'm old fashioned and out of touch and she may be right. I spoke to a highly skilled tattoo artist I know and she said she would not tattoo faces or hands unless she knows them very well and that it was a terrible idea for a young woman who had her first tattoo a year ago.

I don't have any objections to tattoos and think they can be very beautiful, I also wouldn't necessary judge someone I met for having a facial tattoo (depending on what it was) but I think having one will negatively effect your life, especially employment opportunities.

So are facial tattoos still a barrier to employment or am I am old fogey?
If anyone has a facial tattoo I'd love your opinion on this :)

@Racecardriver I wasn’t talking about henna or transfers, but supposed semi permanent tattoo ink.

Apple103 · 30/01/2019 15:09

Yanbu. I personally think people who do that look dirty and they stink. Sorry but it's a horrible look.

Shikah · 30/01/2019 15:37

I've sent about 30 texts over the last 12 hours and a final one saying

I'm strongly advising you not to do this, please realise I just want the best for you and this is a mistake.

She replied with kisses. I think it's going in, she isn't arguing with me.

The tattoo artist appears to be an approx 45YO man with few boundaries. Idiot.

"The term currently used in many parts of the world is SEMI Permanent Makeup. However, this is incorrect. We now know that molecules of pigment remain in the skin indefinitely and therefore we feel that the term SEMI is misleading to the consumer. Depending on the pigments or inks used, where in the skin it was implanted and how your skin reacts, this procedure can be permanent. The SPCP (Society of Permanent Cosmetic Professionals) now have in their bylaws that all of their member refrain from using the term SEMI."

My friend had a semi permanent tattoo on her upper arm 17 years ago...it is still there hasn't altered much. She's had further tattoos since then and been told there's no such thing as semi permanent.

A teardrop used to mean you had killed, but they 'downgraded' it cos it became a fashion.

Does she have a partner? If so how would they feels about it? If not has she contenpletated that a tattoo on the face can put people off and she may struggle to find someone?

And the best she might be able to do, partner-wise, could be someone like this

I think we may have reached peak tattoo. We're nearly at the point where it's more edgy not to have one than it is to be inked.

I am half way through having painful & expensive laser treatment on a small tattoo I had done when I was in my late teens. I am in my 30s now, the tattoo was a nice pretty butterfly with tribal pattern & cost £60..It was great at the time; in a place that I couldn't see it all the time but it doesn't really suit my personality now as Ive grown up & obviously changed from the carefree teenager I once was!

My point is even if you don't regret having a tattoo done (which I don't) and it isn't hideous & you can't see it you may still want to have it removed in the future. It will cost me around £500 in total to have a £60 tattoo removed never mind the pain of burning skin!
There are so many beautiful tattoos out there, unfortunately I don't think a cross on your eye is one of them. Maybe have a look on Pinterest for some other ideas.

minisoksmakehardwork · 30/01/2019 17:24

I just picture her ending up looking like this err... interesting young woman. The lie she told was that she asked for 3 stars and ended up with 56.

I have seen some pretty facial tattoos but most of them just look like smudges that haven't been cleaned off until you get closer. If you're into a more alternative style I think you can generally pull it off as long as they are like the first picture. The last one is surely someone who did it for a dare???

Lightneing bolt?! Isn't she going to look like Harry Potter?

Shikah · 30/01/2019 21:40

She does have a partner, he is a miner and has a huge tribal tattoo on her neck Shock. It's awful, he a complete idiot. She has a lot of work to do on her self esteem.

But she has promised not to get a tattoo on her beautiful face. She text me about 10 minutes ago and said I seemed very sure and that she knew I wanted the best for her. She so sweet but it's hard to help when I am so far away.

Thanks for all your help. Wine

I think it might have been the photos of Aryan Brotherhood gangsters (a racist criminal organisation in the US) that sealed the deal so thanks to pp that suggested that. She is completely non judgemental to her credit and sometimes her detriment!
