kindergartenkop rats who are quite old or have other issues may not be able to clean themselves properly and it can cause issues, including blockages stopping them from weeing. "Wild" rats would likely be dead before reaching that point.

Anyone who owns a male horse knows all about Smegma. It’s the one place horses cannot clean, and of course as they trot along, lots of crud flies up into their sheath. My DH would never do this bit of grooming on our gelding, always left it to me. It’s quite an art tickling them to get them to relax so that their willy drops out. You just wash it then coat it with Vaseline.😁
Horses have the perfect excuse but humans not washing are just gross.🤢
