Posted something for sale on Facebook earlier and had several replies within an hour or so, quickly arranged for a lady to collect the item tomorrow morning for the advertised price. Someone else messaged me offering half the asking price and when I politely declined and told them it was sold pending collection, sent a delightful reply:

“Lol whatever Must b nice to be able to sit on ur arse at home selling things and not having to work if ur able to arrange collection on a Tuesday morning”

I have a job, I just don’t work Tuesdays Grin

Just thought I’d share this CFery Wink

I ventured into the buying and selling pages on Fb to get rid of the baby stuff we no longer needed. I advertised our Bugaboo Bee which was only about a year old with minimal use - I checked the price on a different fb page for this brand and then knocked £30 off for a quicker sale.

The amount of abuse I got from people calling me a robbing twat was awful, I turned down an offer of £50 and was threatened. It was the worst thing I've ever done. I took it off and tried eBay, one CF asked for a million photos of different and very specific parts of the price which I sent, then sent me loads of abuse for not accepting below the reserve price.

It's amazing how many CF want to buy an item which is notoriously expensive and think they can get it by being utterly vile. I ended up selling it in the end for the price I asked, to a lovely lady who messaged me once it had arrived with her to say it was in perfect condition and she loved it. The whole time it was in transit I was so scared it was all going to go wrong.

I've advertised a few things recently, I'm regretting it already!

3 Well once I was selling a TV for £40 because I needed the space in a hurry. It was probably worth 100 but I just wanted it out and was keen for some to take it asap.

Someone messaged ‘I’m interested but ‘do you still have the box?’

I replied ‘yes I still have the box. That will be another £40.’

Funnily enough, he didn’t respond.

Soubriquet · 29/01/2019 08:12

We was once selling a brand new sky remote. Wasn’t needed so thought we would sell it for £10.

Bloke messaged

Him:-hi can I have it please and can you deliver to xyz?
Me:- yes you can, and no I can’t because I don’t drive
Him:- well what about your husband?
Me:- he doesn’t drive either.
Him:- how does he get to work then?
Me:- he bikes
Him:- oh good he can bike then
Me:- no! If you want it you can come collect it
Him:- but I was just about to have a nap!!!
Me:- do you want it or not?
Him:-

With that, I blocked him and sold it to the next in line who turned up within 10 mins and was completely polite

Sweetpea55 · 29/01/2019 08:23

I once two matching sofas on FB. All the details. measurements etc. Collection only

Ffs.. Without exception every person who was interested wanted the measurements and wanted them delivering.
Then the woman who bought them said she thought they wouldn't go through her doorway. She sent some man-with-a-van guys to collect and they must have fitted because the never came back

Nayeds mentioned Choosing Beggars and though I've not watched the videos, the posts are great fun. www.reddit.com/r/ChoosingBeggars/top/

Just going back through the messages when I was selling my phone for £180.

One person offered £70
Another offered £60
A woman got angry that I didn't sell it to her as I already had someone coming to buy it and said I'm "not very nice"
Another offered £100

My absolute favourite was the young lad that offered me £45 as I won't get more than £100 for it anyway...

Guineapiglet345 · 29/01/2019 08:35

I’ve stopped selling stuff on Facebook because of the CFs.

The worst on was when I was selling my old iPhone, I had loads of interest but because of the bad snow no one could come and collect it straight away. One guy messages and says he’ll take it but for £50 less than I’m asking, so I told him I had loads of interest and I wasn’t haggling. He then agrees to pay the asking price and asks for my address, turns out he lives about 30 miles away and tells me that I’ll have to lower the price to take his petrol costs into account! I just could not get through to him that other people were willing to pay the asking price so I blocked him in the end.

Another one was when I was selling a piece of exercise equipment, I didn’t know what it was worth so said in the ad make me an offer and I was just going to accept whatever they offered, whether it was £5 or £50. One CF messages me with “how much do you want for it, if sensible I’ll collect tomorrow” a) what do you mean “if sensible”? Just make me an offer and b) how do you know tomorrow is convenient for me?

toomuchtooold · 29/01/2019 08:38

When I sell stuff on ebay I block people who ask questions that are already provided in the information given. Every time I tried to negotiate a sale with someone who did that, it turned out to be a massive pain in the bum.

My best comment was when I was selling my old ford fiesta quartz from the 90s. It ran fine and had about 10 months left on the MOT, I was selling it for 500 quid. I had a man come and look at it and then fucking explain to me for 20 minutes of my life that I am never getting back that he would have bought it for his wife if I hadn't retouched/filled the wheel arches, as the new paint wasn't an exact match for the (by then well faded) original. I thought well thanks for the advice, the next time I buy a car to sell to you I'll make sure and leave the wheel arches to rust Confused I sold it the day after to a right Essex geezer and his sheepish son who'd wrapped his first car round a tree and was quite clearly being bought a 1.1 litre banger to limit the amount of trouble he could get himself into...

TitchyP · 29/01/2019 08:43

I only sell on eBay as FB tends to be a magnet for CFery.

But then the other week I got a message about a Buy it Now (no offers) item I was selling....

CF: would you accept an offer of £20?

Me: no sorry this is a BIN item only.

CF: Well you didn't actually answer my question did you! Thanks for nothing!

Me: Confused

2ellenor2 · 29/01/2019 08:47

What makes me laugh is when you post something and someone messages you saying they can pay £20 cash on Thursday
What else were you planning on paying with? Monopoly money?

KirstyAllsoppsFatterTwin · 29/01/2019 08:49

Guineapig it’s unbelievable isn’t it? 😂

I just don’t engage with anyone now, beyond giving my address once someone has offered a fair price. And I always say first come first served. I’m sick of saving things and waiting in for people who don’t turn up, or try to knock me down on price once I’ve agreed a sale.

I put all the necessary info I’m prepared to give in the ad. Plenty of photos, so I’m not doing any extra. The more of a bargain it is, the less time I am prepared to waste.

It’s a great price. My stuff is ALWAYS good stuff at a great price. Either arrive soon and give me the money or go away.

Daytimetellysucks · 29/01/2019 08:51

I tried to give away a wooden toy kitchen and table and chairs that had come out of my daughter’s play house on our local Freebay site

Collection only clearly stated on the ad

Lots of requests asking me to deliver and when I refused I got all sorts of vile messages - someone actually messaged to say they hoped my daughter would get hit by a car!

KirstyAllsoppsFatterTwin · 29/01/2019 08:53

ush I snorted with laughter at the choosing beggars of Tinder 😂

2ellenor2 · 29/01/2019 08:55

Oh and the usual ‘Anyone selling a brand new 32 inch tv needed by tomorrow’
You tried Argos mate?

FrequentFlyerRandomDent · 29/01/2019 08:59

Daytimetellysucks Shock Shock Shock

Biancadelriosback · 29/01/2019 09:05

I sold a baby clothes bundle on eBay. 2 items were brand new, tags on and everything. After she had received them she waiting around 2 weeks then opened a case against me saying the items were incorrectly listed and they were not new. She attached pics of the items absolutely ruined. Clearly had been shrunk and stretched out in the wash, stains on etc. One of the rare occasions eBay sided with me!

Yabbers · 29/01/2019 09:12

@HarrysPoorFoot

what does your husband think? “He thinks you’re a twat”

I had one lady who took four separate things in a row, from me off . By the fourth one, I was going to invite her in and ask if there was anything else she fancied. I pictured her trying to recreate my house in hers😄

Yabbers · 29/01/2019 09:13

*off freecycle.

EvenLess · 29/01/2019 09:14

I was selling all my furniture when I lived in the US last year prior to moving back, and it was hell! Got so many abusive messages that I wasn't giving people stuff for free and that I wouldn't deliver to the next state Confused.

I told all of the buyers cash only, and one very young woman turned up to buy a bookcase with an app called 'Cash' and no money- she was very disgruntled when I told her to get herself down to the nearest ATM and take the money out Grin

IlluminatiParty · 29/01/2019 09:17

Another vote for the ChoosingBeggars subreddit - it's a delight!

I've given away baby bits and clothing before via the local Facebook page but I got stung with a lovely bundle of boys shirts - decent quality all ironed - probably ten altogether - I said free to a good home, long story short woman picking them up put them on ebay - I was fuming! I didn't make that mistake again...

I agree put a price on things to weed out some of the CFs.

iano · 29/01/2019 09:19

I tried to give away a baby bath seat on FB and one woman said she wanted it. Didn't hear about collection so I messaged her. No response for 24 hours. I posted on the add 'still available' and a nice lady collected within 10 mins. The first w

iano · 29/01/2019 09:20

Sorry... posted too soon. The first woman bombarded me with messages about our agreement being a contract and me owing her a bath seat.
Nutter!

ShahOfSplosh · 29/01/2019 09:23

I'd think "you cut me deep, Shrek. You cut me real deep just now." but wouldn't send it, imagine the response!

thetemptationofchocolate · 29/01/2019 09:23

My biggest pet hates are the rude people who just message a very blunt “Is this still available”. Does it hurt to greet someone first? Honestly I tend to skip over those replies now. Just say hello!

I once responded to an ad on fb, I never realised that fb just send a very abrupt message like 'is this still available?' as an automatic thing. It was only when I checked back on what it had sent that I realised how rude it had come across. So I sent another message of my own which had please and thank you in it, and explained that the first message hadn't been written by me, but an auto reply from fb.
I don't want to be thought of as a rude CF!

yearinyearout · 29/01/2019 09:28

There’s a fb local “for free” group that was started so people could gift things they didn’t need. It has now developed into a begging site for CFs basically trying to furnish their entire home for free. Typical post “Need new tumble drier, must be in good condition and able to deliver” etc. There’s one particular CF who’s been found to gather up all the decent free stuff that she’s begged “for my friend who’s just starting out after an abusive relationship and has nothing” and put it up for sale. She’s been rumbled and nobody gives her anything now. I was giving away a desk and chair the other week and got messed about royally by one woman who asked me how much it was, and when I messaged her to say “it’s free, do you want it? ” she said “thanks for the offer but no” 😂
