To think about calling an ambulance?

Rhynswynd · 27/01/2019 15:43

For the past 3 nights I have woken up with chest pain that won't go away with antacids. I have tried Rennie tablets and gaviscon liquid. The pain just won't stop.
It has woken me again tonight and I have been awake for over an hour and had 1/3 bottle of gaviscon. Today the pain lasted most of the day with varying levels of pain from mild to stabbing.
My dh and 3 children are asleep (in australia) and I don't know what to do.

Call an ambulance! Chest pain is considered an emergency until medics rule out a heart attack. My friend's mum had chest pain and felt unwell in the evening, it was intermittent and she thought it was heartburn. She died that night. Heart attacks in women often present differently.

Please play safe and get urgent help.

greathat · 27/01/2019 17:04

Hope the ambulance turns up soon and that you don't need it! Chest pains need checking out!

ChestyNut · 27/01/2019 17:05

Glad you’re getting checked out Flowers

Orange6904 · 27/01/2019 17:06

Haven't read whole thread sorry but I think the posters saying chest pain lasting 3 nights isn't cardiac are wrong, any chest pain that is new should be investigated.

Aridane · 27/01/2019 17:17

Yes - exactly! My old hairdresser had this sort of thing for a few days, was swigging the gaviscon to no avail and somewhat embarrassed drove to A&E - only to be to,d off for not coming in earlier and treated for heart attack(s)

U2HasTheEdge · 27/01/2019 17:35

Some heart attacks can lead to the heart gradually filling with blood and expanding - until it splits open and the person is dead

Did you learn that from your first aid training?

Hope everything is OK OP.

SimplySteve · 27/01/2019 17:39

Good luck at hospital Thanks

Gallstone pain is usually right-sided and with other symptoms. Pancreatitis on the other hand.

Never understood the "if you can post you likely don't need an ambo" logic. I was posting a few days ago, wound up in resus with sepsis & acute pancreatitis.

QOD · 27/01/2019 17:40

🤞

Notcontent · 27/01/2019 17:43

Let us know how you get on OP, I was pleased to read that you did call someone as it’s always better to get checked. 🤞🏼

HollowTalk · 27/01/2019 17:44

I think the poster who's talking about the exploding heart is thinking of Halloween pranks.

ragged · 27/01/2019 17:55

Let us know what happens(ed), OP. Flowers
I hope you feel better & stop this problem from happening again.

LadyandGent · 27/01/2019 17:56

How are you now?

Rhynswynd · 27/01/2019 17:57

Thanks everyone. I am in hospital now. The tongue spray helped the pain go down but it is ramping back up p now. Ecg and blood pressure and heart rate all normal. But they don't like that I am in pain still. Bloods taken and waiting for dr

Glad you are in the right place. Flowers

Just wanted to share this video about what it looks like for women having a heart attack (different than men):

DragginBallsEEEE · 27/01/2019 18:59

If it’s been happening for 3 nights it wouldn’t be an emergency

Absolutely not true. I had chest pain that would ease off and then ramp up again so I thought it couldn't be very serious. After 5 days of that I tried to buy antacids at the pharmacy who, when I mentioned gaviscon etc not working, said I'd be best going to out of hours to get checked out. I was diagnosed with pulmunary embolism and drs were shocked at how 'well' I presented and were as shocked as I was when the results came back.

Moral of the story.....serious conditions aren't always instant and excruciating.

April241 · 27/01/2019 19:06

Glad you're in the hospital now OP, hope they figure out whats going on soon.

IndieTara · 27/01/2019 19:07

Op it sounds like the pain I had with gallstones. Antacids never helped, actually nothing really helped.
It stopped when I had my gall bladder removed

LadyandGent · 27/01/2019 19:12

You'll be sorted now hopefully.

PurpleDaisies · 27/01/2019 19:14

If you can write a post you probably don't need an ambulance.

This is one of the stupidest things I’ve seen on here.

Glad you’re getting seen op.

HumptyNumptyNooNoo · 27/01/2019 19:15

Hope they can find what's wrong ! Thanks

happygoluckyhippo · 27/01/2019 19:16

Glad you decided yo go to hospital OP, hope you're back home soon with a clean bill if health!

PrivateDoor · 27/01/2019 19:17

Get well soon OP Flowers

AnoukSpirit · 27/01/2019 19:18

Everybody knows if you're still alive you do not need an ambulance yet. Hmm

I took a taxi to the hospital because I didn't want to cause a fuss and was promptly whisked off to resus. I was "lucky" I went there when I did.

Op, I am glad you've sought medical attention. It might turn out to be nothing serious, but the point of medical facilities is so that they can make that determination for you!

If your threshold is "when I'm unconscious that will justify an ambulance" then it's going to be a little late (and impossible) to do anything then unless you've got someone with you. And possibly still too late even if there is someone else to call for you at that point.

HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend · 27/01/2019 19:19

If it’s been happening for 3 nights it wouldn’t be an emergency

Are you medically trained to give this completely inaccurate and dangerous information Hmm

My mum had mini heart attacks over 4 days, even seen her GP and told her it was “all in her head” without even assessing her...

8 hours later she took herself to A&E as she just didn’t feel well... within 55 minutes she was transferred a cardiac hospital and by blue light and was having surgery for a triple heart by pass.

I’m glad your being seen OP, and how your on the mend/getting the treatment you need!
