In asking for what to wear to a wedding help?

It's in April. I'm planning on losing lots of weight (ha) so will be a size 10.

I'm very short with a massive butt and thick thighs.

Usually like to dress more on the trendy/unusual side but haven't been to a wedding in years and never a spring wedding. Plus I've not been to the UK in a while and don't know what's in/out fashion wise. I wouldn't wear something just because it's 'in' or discount something classic just feel old and grumpy and want to look good in front of people I haven't seen in years!

Thinking of things along this line, are they awful? A lot of stuff out here now is satin and sheer and no matter how much weight I lose there will still be lumps.

I quite like the wide leg jumpsuit type outfits but not sure they suit me.

Stop stop! If OP is really short with dumpy legs the last thing in the world she needs is a jump suit. (I know. I’m short and rather dumpy). OP I’m afraid I think your dresses are pretty vile and completely inappropriate for a UK spring wedding. Some posters have given lovely alternative suggestions for you.

Jon65 · 27/01/2019 01:38

Op, look for a fit and flare dress to on, or just below the knee in a small print, not solid red or black, preferably v neck. Have the dress taken in by a local seamstress. Get some nice heels to complement, and jewellery. With your differences between hip and bust, have you thought about learning to sew, because that's the only way you will get something to look fitted?

Bombshellhq are great for pear and hourglass shapes. What about something like this? It's not edgy, but it is appropriate.

I liked the number two in the original photos! I love a modern quirky look at a wedding- really stands out from the endless monsoon lace or Ted Baker and Karen Millen fitted dresses.

Oh good grief ladyoffhecanyon that’s like something the vicar’s wife would wear!

To each their own, Traveller. Smile

I'm trying to be mindful of the disparity between the OP's top and bottom half. Dresses like this are good for pears ( especially with a three dress size disparity between top and bottom)

secretuser · 27/01/2019 08:38

I really like the 3rd one actually and it's not usually my thing.

Absolutely not the 4th one, those types of dresses are often popular for bridesmaids!

CallMeVito · 27/01/2019 08:42

really stands out from the endless monsoon lace
but that's the point, wedding guests are not supposed to stand out! You try to avoid a bridesmaidy look, you wear a flattering and smart outfit suitable for the type of wedding you are invited too, but you do not bring attention to yourself too much.

anotherwearytraveller · 27/01/2019 08:55

So wedding guests should all wear no soon so they look the same and blend in! Bollocks.
The bride will always look centre of attention obviously but seeing all the beautiful guests outfits is part of a wedding.
Look at the coverage of the royal weddings.

Most guests at the royal weddings were perfectly appropriate and not wearing showy outfits! You can wear beautiful outfits without trying to be the centre of attention.

One that I can remember looking ridiculous was Chloey Madeley. Of course she didn't distract from the bride, but her attention seeking efforts were embarrassing.

You can't really compare a royal wedding, in front of cameras from around the world, to a regular wedding anyway. It's not that hard, it's not your day, keep your stand-out dress for when you go clubbing. It's basic manners.

anotherwearytraveller · 27/01/2019 10:18

Im not suggesting she rock up in a jewelled bikini ffs.

But wanting something other than the standard wedding guest dress is brilliant

I loathe seeing all the monsoon and phase eight right fitting knee length dresses. They look rubbish imho

You can be eclectic and stylish and not be in your face
And I would say al the guests at royal weddings follow that. No one upstages the bride

CM looked awful as she flashed the flesh thinking a decent bod means it has to be uncovered

SciFiScream · 27/01/2019 11:39

What celebrity has your body type/shape/colouring? What have they been wearing recently? If we can visualise it might be easier to suggest outfits.
Wrap dresses always work well and can look very chic and glamorous when styled well.
