To think the word “indeed” is a normal word?

It’s not a posh or clever word at all. Why do some people think it is?

Who thinks that?

WhentheRabbitsWentWild · 25/01/2019 19:46

Indeed .

I use it . I am certainly not posh.

DonCorleoneTheThird · 25/01/2019 19:48

I couldn't be more working class and I use it all the time. Of course it's not posh Grin

22Giraffes · 25/01/2019 19:49

Indeed you are correct Wink

WrongKindOfFace · 25/01/2019 19:50

I use it and I am not posh. It’s a perfectly normal word.

Oysterbabe · 25/01/2019 19:54

Of course it's a normal word.

Huntawaymama · 25/01/2019 20:00

My 3yo loves using it, it's really cute

HildaZelda · 25/01/2019 20:11

A normal word you say? It is indeed ;)

ShalomJackie · 25/01/2019 20:11

Indeed it is a normal word and certainly not posh!

MRex · 25/01/2019 20:11

Eh?

chipsandgin · 25/01/2019 20:14

Totally normal word. I did work with a man who replied to every single thing everyone ever said with ‘indeed’ which slightly put me off! In context it’s fine though.

Mokepon · 25/01/2019 20:14

Totally normal.
Also evidently and apparently so.

AwdBovril · 25/01/2019 20:15

Indeed it is. I say it to my DD. We're definitely not posh. Who has suggested this? I suspect intellectual jealousy (or outright bitchiness).

BadlyAgedMemes · 25/01/2019 20:15

It is, indeed.

PolaDeVeboise · 25/01/2019 20:17

Eh?

KatherinaMinola · 25/01/2019 20:18

It is, but I think it's also regional. So people in some areas will use it all the time and others never.

KatherinaMinola · 25/01/2019 20:19

My very working class grandmother used it a lot.

DryHeave · 25/01/2019 20:19

Oh do you, indeed?

KatherinaMinola · 25/01/2019 20:20

Very much like that, Dry

MrsFionaCharming · 25/01/2019 20:21

I read somewhere that Spock uses the word when he’s confused by human habits and doesn’t know what to say. I’m also confused and uncertain in social situations, so I decided to adopt it. Seems to work well!

HoomanMoomin · 25/01/2019 20:22

Indeed

Mulberryandthyme · 25/01/2019 20:26

I concur

BlancheM · 25/01/2019 20:36

Are you getting mixed up with 'deeds' like 'where are the deeds to all my land and manors'?, that would indeed be considerably more well-to-do!

TheNoodlesIncident · 25/01/2019 20:46

What about "hence", is that posh or otherwise? I used it once in casual conversation and there was subsequently a bit of gentle mockery kinda thing going on. Ditto "parlance". Confused

Never "indeed" though, that's a totally everyday word, mundane even.
