To ask why you got married?

So love is the main reason, isn't it? But it's obviously argued that it's a bit of an outdated institution now.

What are the reasons (other than love) that you married? What changes when you're married rather than 'in a relationship'?

Married for love but also I guess to legitimise the relationship to friends and family. Not that it wasnt before but for me personally being married has a finality about it that I feel is taken more seriously. Also I think its helped us through rough times because we have both made a legal commitment to try and get through our problems together. Theres a sense of complete security for me that we both were willing to make this commitment to the relationship and neither can just walk away without a backward glance. I thought before I met my husband that I'd hate to be married because it would feel like pressure and obligation.... but when it's with my husband who I love and it is from both of us I find it positive and enriching.
Especially now we have two children i feel very happy that we both made this commitment to each other... psychologically it feels like a weight off my mind which has surprised me, I dont have to worry about someone flaking out on me because hes reassured me by making a written commitment to our family.
I'm also a SAHM now days and I suppose being married protects me legally as I have no income. The house is not in my name either although it was bought with my savings, because due to having no income I could not go on the mortgage. I suppose there could have been legal ways to sort that out were we not married but we've not had to bother because we are married and so it legally belongs to both of us anyway.

It was also a really good party tbh! I had a great day and I loved wearing a wedding dress and all the flowers and cake. We just had a smallish wedding in the woods and loads of our friends came. Then we all went to the pub. It was actually one of the best days of my life. It was really fun!
