Unfortunately I cannot tell which was the nicest compliment I ever got because I could not stay anonymous but I would like to hear yours.

My DP shortly after we starting dating said ‘I have to pinch myself to really believe that I actually get to be your boyfriend, I want to tell everyone I see I’m so proud’

We are getting married in October 💕

brizzledrizzle · 24/01/2019 20:51

When somebody genuinely thought I was 10-15 years younger than I am.

Laquila · 24/01/2019 20:52

An Italian girl I worked with in London a few years ago told me that I was the only person she’d met since coming to the UK who hadn’t treated her like a foreigner. I was quite pleased with that.

crosser62 · 24/01/2019 20:54

I’m a nurse.
Many colleagues over the years have told me independently of each other that if ever they were in hospital, they would want me looking after them.

Recently a colleague requested that I be put in a particular area so that I could care for their mum, I was so touched and honoured.

CheeseRolls · 24/01/2019 20:59

I was about 13 and at a boring grown up drinks do think with my mother.

One of neighbours, a man in his 60s was talking to me and my mum. He asked me questions about school and said how pretty I looked tonight. He was actually interested in what I had to say.

It wasn't creepy as it might sound and he wasn't a perv. !

I wasn't a confident child at all, my dad was v absent and wasn't close or interested in me. At that moment i realised that no one had ever complimented me or said they were proud of me before.

Will always be the most meaningful compliment I've had. Smile

Echobelly · 24/01/2019 21:02

'It's good to have you as a friend' from a school friend

'You're so chilled' - the first night I met someone who became a very dear friend

Fusioluxe · 24/01/2019 21:04

Compliments from school about my child and parenting are my favourite.

SumAndSubstance · 24/01/2019 21:05

I gave the eulogy at my father's funeral and did rather a good job if I do say so myself. Afterwards, one of his old friends whom I hadn't seen since I was a small child came up to me and said, "You're your father's daughter, aren't you?" Still makes me well up with pride.

FlamingJuno · 24/01/2019 21:14

Younger colleague told me that if she felt stressed or out of her depth at work, she would think to herself "what would Juno do?"

Said by a professional peer, "You are the best I've ever known".

I forgot this one. I had a year 7 tutor group, and I unexpectedly had to resign to move abroad in the Easter term, leaving at the end of the summer term. On the last day, I'd thrown them a party to say goodbye, and thanks for being a fab tutor group.

Two of the boys came back to see me to say goodbye at the the end of the last lesson, lay on the floor and grabbed me by the ankles, and said they weren't going to let me leave.

4 years later, I got an email from the tutor group asking me to go back for their Leavers day at the end of Year 11. I finished my GCSE marking, hopped on a Eurostar and went down to Cornwall to attend. Being remembered by them, and the hugs and smiles I got when they saw me there, was a massive compliment.

SueGeneris

“It was so lovely, seeing you in that car park!"*

That’s so lovely 🥰

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 24/01/2019 21:21

I train new staff members at my work and have had lovely compliments from trainees that I have been kind, patient and given them the confidence and support to do well in their new role. Also that I seem to know just what they need - whether it be a boost or a gentle kick up the bum.

For years I was bullied at school, and miserable about it, but it has left me with the ability to read people quite well.

BelfortGabbz · 24/01/2019 21:50

Someone told me at an event - " You look very sexy and classy, not easy one to pull off"

Jellykat · 24/01/2019 22:03

Ex boyfriend told me that the day he lost me, he lost the best thing that ever happened to him in his life.. he died unexpectedly a month later, i still miss him.

MrsJane · 24/01/2019 22:13

My mum and dad telling me I'm a good mum. Teachers complimenting my dc. My dc saying nice things to me. My best friend telling me I looked beautiful on my wedding day. The way she said it, with a hug and genuine sincerity, made me blub!

This thread has encouraged me to give people more compliments! Smile

FeelingFlat · 24/01/2019 22:16

That I had skin like velvet

ladyratterley · 24/01/2019 22:18

I find I really remember compliments more then when people say horrid things!
My favourite ones are
“You fill a room with happiness when you walk in” which was from a friends husband.
“I’ve decided I’m going to channel you in interviews” from a good friend Smile

hazandduck · 26/01/2019 16:38

Been following this thread thinking of my favourite compliments over the years. I tend to get complimented on my eyes. I always thought myself pretty ugly as a child (have grown a bit more in to my looks) but my eyes were always complimented. I hate compliments on things I do (singing/drawing/writing) it just always mortified me particularly growing up with parents who boasted a lot about me!

Today I received probably my favourite compliment because I so needed it...14 month old DD kicking off crying in Sainsbury’s cafe as we are trying to have lunch. A lovely couple stopped me on my way out after I got up from under the table cleaning up the utter mess DD had left. They said “you’re a good mum,” and I could have cried and cuddled them. Don’t think they know how much I needed to hear it! They then said “the first thirty years are the hardest!” I had to laugh!

itsbritneybiatches · 26/01/2019 16:51

Mummy all I ever want or need is you

Mummy I chose you to be my mummy

I'd never change you even if your a crank sometimes - my husband

She's five.

notacooldad · 26/01/2019 16:56

A young person who was in crisis asked for me to see them as I 'was the only fucker who really listened and cared about them'
Ok, it was a bit swary but I took it in the spirit it was meant!

wellhonestly · 26/01/2019 17:00

From DS aged 14: "My friends think you're really cool."

Then he spoiled it a bit by saying, "I can't imagine why!"

OhDearBeer · 26/01/2019 17:01

I have two. One was being told I look like Helena Christenson. The other is too wonderful and outing.

chockaholic72 · 26/01/2019 17:06

When I was 23 I spent six months caring for my mum who had terminal cancer. I felt that I didn't get everything right, made mistakes, could have dealt with it better etc. Two days before she died, when she was still lucid, she told me she couldn't have wished for a better daughter.

Angelik · 26/01/2019 17:07

Haven't read all but 2 spring to mind. Being told I am astute more than once by 2 very successful, powerful people high up in their fields.

One today. My dd had 6th birthday party at home. One of her wee friends told me my homemade cake was lovely. So sweet and felt good cos I am definitely not a baker!

DayManChampionOfTheSun · 26/01/2019 17:16

"every time I see you, my ticket to hell gets an upgrade" - said by a very good friend, normally through a fit of the giggles about some horrendous thing that has just slipped out of my mouth.

I've also been proposed to a few times by this bloke at work, usually for the same reason as the above hahaha
