Unfortunately I cannot tell which was the nicest compliment I ever got because I could not stay anonymous but I would like to hear yours.

Not sure if this counts as a compliment but...

Whilst on holiday a woman can up to my boyfriend (now DH) and I and said...

"I've been watching you two for a while now. The way you look at your gf, I can see she is your world. If my son ever finds a girl and looks at her the way you look at your gf, I'll die happy"

I'll never forget that.

OneStepSideways · 24/01/2019 06:04

An older lady on a bus said 'that dress really suits you' out of the blue. I've felt great in that dress ever since!

I've had a couple of strangers compliment my favourite bag and ask where I got it, which is nice. It's not an unusual or showy bag but I love it.

Two work ones I guess

How brilliant a line manager I was from our director. Something id worked really hard at.

Secondly in my late 20s finishing a job a senior staff member in another area who had a fierce reputation but had always been supportive of me took me a side for a pep talk. My manager was an unpopular ass which is relevant aslikedto put people down. I had v little confidence. He just told me I was amazing and fabulous if he was 30 years younger.... could sound creepy but wasn’t - he just wanted me to feel special and show that people had recognised something special about me.
Complements where there is nothing to gain are fab x

I’m embarrassed to say that most compliments I hold on to are appearance based Blush A girl in secondary school telling me that I was the prettiest person she had ever seen, my DP when first going out saying that he can’t believe he’s on a date with someone so pretty, things like that. I’ve put on a lot of weight recently after having my son and it’s stuff like my little catalogue of compliments that motivates me to get back in shape.

After my second was born my DP said he was so proud of how strong and beautiful I was, this makes me tear up to think of. My parents have also told me I’m the loveliest mum, which means a lot to me too.

I get complimented on my appearance /demeanour at work my than anything of substance which makes me sad. Although I wouldn’t say anything.

BendydickCuminsnatch · 24/01/2019 06:41

That my children are a credit to me. I’d never really thought about that phrase before but it really made me stop and think - I HAVE had some input into how they’re turning out 😄 made my day!

underpressureidiot · 24/01/2019 06:43

I was on tv the other day on a v popular game show and didn’t do very well, Twitter was slagging me off. Got a text from my mum’s friend saying how beautiful and engaging I was and how well I did, it made me cry!

BendydickCuminsnatch · 24/01/2019 06:43

Also on the last day of school I won the award for best smile 💁🏼‍♀️ And in front of the whole year the head girl said I was friends with everyone and always kind to anyone 😵 that was really nice actually. My downfall though really as I’ve never really had super good best friends, just acquaintances!

"You're very vibrant, considering you don't do anything"

Grin Grin Grin

burrobirra · 24/01/2019 06:50

"I'm glad we met."

TheLastNigel · 24/01/2019 06:56

One of the staff I managed said to me once that I was 'like not a real person because no one in real life can be that nice and still be a good person to work underneath'. I was muddling through something tricky at work at the time and not feeling like I was doing a great job so it meant a huge amount to me.

Herja · 24/01/2019 06:58

"If someone like you can love me, I can't have done that badly, or so wrong, in my life"

Very sadly he died suddenly and unexpectedly less than 12 hours later. It was the last real conversation we had rather than just chit chat. It's a memory I treasure and I hope so much he was holding on to that feeling when he died because life had been far from kind to him and he was filled with guilt.

He also told me that I had no idea how strong, beautiful and smart I was. That I could achieve anything I put my mind to. He was the only person ever to call me beautiful.

sandgrown · 24/01/2019 07:06

When I was,a teenager a boy told me I was the least drippy girl he had been out with!
When ex-DH left for OW one unexpected bonus was I lost a lot of weight. I went to a social event and my colleague told me her mum thought I was an absolutely stunning woman. It really boosted my confidence.
I have a great relationship with adult DD and a relative told me she hopes that when her DD is older they have a relationship like ours.

blueskiespls · 24/01/2019 07:11

My 9yo dd- "I want to be like you when I'm older" GrinGrin

ScabbyHorse · 24/01/2019 07:16

'You're the kind of girl men fall in love with'
Or
'Enjoyed hanging out with you and your awesome energy'

ScreamingValenta · 24/01/2019 07:25

A female acquaintance spontaneously told me my outfit was 'stunning' in 1993.

The only time I have ever been in the same sentence as the word 'stunning'!

LoopyLou1981 · 24/01/2019 07:41

‘You’re children are so well behaved. It’s lovely to see children enjoying their food’
One of the few times that they weren’t trying to wind each other up or pushing food away so it was nice to be noticed!

SilverDoe · 24/01/2019 08:03

@Herja :; 💔 Flowers

MaybeMaybeNotJ · 24/01/2019 09:09

“Of course you haven’t got a heart of steel”

I really worry I have. But this made me hope I don’t come across this way.

fingerlickingud · 24/01/2019 12:27

A gay colleague " you'd be the woman to turn me" Grin someone once bowed before me in an "I'm not worthy" kind of way and kissed my feet after I'd been in a play at uni, also Grin Maybe not the best compliments but both still make me smile as they were quite funny! I'm lucky - I've had tons of compliments when I was younger to tide me over now I am
Middle aged, overweight and invisible. I like to give compliments more now - it is very gratifying to see someone's face light up a little bit!

OnlyaMan · 24/01/2019 15:11

I have been told that the very best thing to say to any woman is "Have you lost weight?", regardless of whether it is true or not.
Is that cynical?

reetgood · 24/01/2019 15:20

Some ‘thank you for the difference you’ve made on our project’ work type feedback have made me really proud.

A friend once said that (bear with me) if we were in a concentration camp, he’d be the one protesting and dying whilst I’d be keeping as many people as I could alive. Weirdly specific but I was having angst about being a good person and was chuntering on about only being a good person because I’d never been tested.

And call me shallow but one of my most prized is that someone saw a photo of me and said I looked like Scarlett Johansson. It’s one specific photo and it’s a reach. But yes, I’ll take that thanks.

user1465335180 · 24/01/2019 18:56

I'm naturally very pale, suntans have eluded me all my life so I was quite jealous of two American tourists on a train to Edinburgh who had fabulous Californian tans. I still treasure what she said" You're so pale and ladylike"!

ChinchillaFur · 24/01/2019 19:02

Said to me by a year 10 boy after a particularly tough week - "Miss, when you talk, people listen". I did have a little sniffle at that.

NoShelfElf · 24/01/2019 19:09

I got stopped by a dentist one day asking if I'd had my teeth whitened, then complimenting my amazing, naturally bright white teeth (much coffee and red wine and the passing of time may have dulled my shine slightly!!)
A friend told me that It's a Beautiful Day by the Levellers made her think of me because it was happy, bouncy and positive.
