To worry I might die here on the toilet?

It happens to me now and again.

I suffer from IBS that strikes in the middle of the night.

Wake up in agony and then have to spend an hour or two in the bathroom.

I think tonight's attack is thanks to a large amount of sweetcorn. Combined with the fact I've eaten crap the last few days.

Trying all the deep breathing etc. It's just so painful and scary. Thankfully my bath is is front of the loo so I can lean forward and rest my arms/head on it.

My poor Dsis suffers. She had an attack in a Turkish airport of all places, when we were all coming back from a holiday.

She came back pale and quiet. A long time later. We just didn't ask.

Glad you're alive OP!

Thought I had IBS for years - got stabby pain in my abdomen this summer and went to the urgent care. After much confusion and lots of tests, I had surgery (they thought it might be appendicitis) and they discovered an infected Meckel's diverticulum. Haven't had any issues since - am fairly confident all of my flare-ups over the years were caused by inflammation of the diverticulum. Hmm

Second the recommendation for a squatty potty - all of my toileting is much better since I got one. I genuinely think women suffer from more digestive issues largely because toilets are too high and put short-legged ladies in unnatural perched positions on the toilet so we don't "go" properly.

Hope you’re feeling better. You have my sympathies. When I get this kind of thing (ibs / terrible endo pains) I tell myself it always does pass eventually but it doesn’t help the sweats and vomiting and passing out. Flowers

It was definitely stress - related for me BUT wheat was the chief offender.

I'm now gluten free and also don't eat oats bcs of gallstones (again, a miraculous recovery after years of hospitals/ambulance/a+e etc). I've also had to give in and stop eating dairy. My digestion is now perfect, which is amazing after what I've been through.

Next on the list is a footstool thing for the loo. Also wet wipes help with eg piles. (Clearly I carry all my stress in my stomach!)

It all sounds dull to have to give up whole food groups but you get so used to it and it's worth it to get gut peace, it really is.

My sympathies OP, I was diagnosed with IBS a few years back. Had a colonoscopy, nothing wrong there. GP just gave me an information sheet so I had to try to sort it out myself. don't want to take meds. Kept a food diary etc, found out that coffee first thing was a no-no (but I can have it later), and certain foods are not good for me. Also take psyillium husk in water which works wonders, just a couple of teaspoons once a day. You will have to work out what's the best time for you to take it. Helps a lot.

I find running my wrists under cold water helps, especially if you feel faint
