To ask for the worst way to resign? (Petty)

After almost a year of working for a bitchy, micro-managing boss, I'm within tasting distance of a new job and am fantasising about ways I can get her back for months of nit-picking and holding annual leave requests over my head by making my resignation as annoying and inconvenient as I can.

I'm thinking of sending the email:

  • before a long meeting she has to chair
  • 4.55 on a Friday
  • the morning of her going away on holiday when I know she'll need working from home that day

I know I'm being silly and petty and I'll probably do a boring old resignation instead, but thinking up petty ways to ruin her day with my resignation is giving me so much glee.

What's the worst ways you've ever resigned? or thought about but chickened out?

Believeitornot

It’s better not to burn your bridges🤣

"Just do it nicely and explain why you’re going. They won’t take it seriously if you’re arsed about it.*

If talking nicely and explaining things worked I wouldn't be leaving. I like my job. I don't like my lunatic boss.

My first job, straight out of uni, I was office skivvy to three women who were a fair bit older than me. They were horrible, excluded me from things, talked to me as if I was shit, etc etc. I stuck it for a couple of years and then found another job. I had to give four weeks' notice. My new employer needed me to start on 15 December. With a couple of days' leave I had owing, I had just enough time to give the four weeks' notice required and leave on 14 December. HOWEVER, my darling colleagues had assumed I would be staying until after Christmas. 'You can't possibly leave before Christmas. How will we manage?' Etc. Etc. So I went up to HR, got my contract checked, I was in the right, and basically there was nothing they could do. 'You went and talked to HR without discussing this with us first!' They really thought they could bully me into staying a bit longer because it suited them.

It gave me more satisfaction than I can say to walk out of that door on my last day.

InTheAbyss · 22/01/2019 20:17

I'll be asking 2 previous bosses for a reference so no need to worry about that, thank God. She would fuck up any reference I request, I just know it.

oohyoudevilyou

I gave him no reason, just my notice to leave. When he asked, i just smiled and said I don't want to discuss it. He'd done so many bad things that by not telling him, he couldn't build up his defence.

This is a FANTASTIC idea, I may well steal it. She's an incredibly nosy woman and I know that not knowing will gnaw away at her.

I used to work in a supermarket and had to do a lot of tannoy announcements, it was always my dream to do one one day that went something along the lines of 'fuck this, I'm off' but never had the balls Grin

FairyLightBlanket45 · 22/01/2019 20:34

Um....I was a bit evil at my old job (4 years ago)
Loved it there but my last 3 months were hell when a new manager appeared. A bully, a cow, a lier - awful person
So on my last day:
She buggered off home at 4:30 so as I shut down the computers I reset the passwords for log in and the office email.... (my awesome colleague knew the new 😃) that caused plenty of havoc in the Monday morning I was told(I left on a Friday)
I left a tuna sandwich in the waste basket in her office next to the heater 🤣🤣
I readjusted her chair so that she basically sank next time she sat down
I didn’t make any diary adjustments (it was a nursery I wasn’t going to screw any children or parents over) - I did however remove the post it noted from a phone call saying that head office were coming on Monday to see XY and Z reports and for her to have them ready. Colleague who took message was also leaving that day so the name they had for the message was perfectly safe.
I took all her laminating pouches!
I could have done more.....

Magicstar1 · 22/01/2019 20:42

I was having problems with a lying, useless coworker...but they promoted him so I had to report to him. I came in the following week, handed him my notice, followed by a doctors note for my notice period. I walked out that day and totally left him in then lurch. They realised I’d been right about him, sacked him, and I got paid a lot to come back and help out Grin

I also quit a job by getting a song dedicated on the radio to my boss - “Take this job and shove it, I ain’t working here no more”

whatamidoingwithmylife · 22/01/2019 20:45

Not quite a resignation as they sacked me for applying for another job - but they fucked up my sacking. One of the directors did it immediately after being told to, but he was supposed to wait until after a very important meeting so they had to beg me to stay on and help - obviously I said no and grabbed my things and left.

I took some paperwork/contacts with me with the intention to report them to the police and other authorities as they had stolen goods on the property, were tax dodging and also bribing the council. In the end I daren't do it as they'd have known it was me - I was a naive 18yr old then but now I'd 100% drop their arses in it given the chance. Shortly afterwards I bumped into the accounts guy, told him I was working at the tax office and he nearly shit himself - I could smell the fear 😂.

RussellSprout · 22/01/2019 20:50

Can you go over her head by resigning on email to her boss? Makes her look shit and they hate that crap.

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 22/01/2019 20:55

I spend hours dreaming of the day I can quit my current job...I’m hoping it will include some fireworks and a mariachi band to really get the point across!

CSIblonde · 22/01/2019 20:59

I worked for a vile woman in a new role that had lots of aspects no one else even realised were legal requirements (her chaotic badly run own business) . So I went off with stress, resigned after a week & burned the new legal reqs manual & job manuals she'd asked me to write. Most satisfying.

Twuntsrule · 22/01/2019 21:02

I've had two good ones. One (not a real job) was when a friend and I were writing two entertainment columns (free) for a cow of a passive-aggressive bitch and were tired of being treated like shiite. She was the only one who could delete posts to the website, other than the original poster, so we figured out when she'd be traveling to this industry confab and then posted our letters of resignation on the site. Where they remained for at least three or four hours. And no, there was no cussing or name-calling.

Then I was poached by another magazine (not a competitor), but the kicker was that I had a trip to Paris/Monte Carlo the week before I was to give notice. I asked many friends/colleagues if I should cancel the trip and give notice earlier. They thought it would look bad for my current magazine if I didn't show up in Europe, so I went on the trip, came back, and faxed my letter of resignation around. I was on the East Coast, the CF who caused me so much misery, was on a business trip on the West Coast, but his secretary said, oh, he's an early bird, you can call him regarding your fax. And I did. And I woke the fucker up. It was total bliss! I still got my year-end bonus as I followed all the proper rules one does when resigning, worked my two weeks' notice, and was offered recommendations by higher-ups at the company. I've now been at the job I took for 21 years, the CF was fired for, among other things, having affairs with people lower on the totem pole at the company, and have wonderful memories of that trip to Paris/Monte Carlo!

RolandDeschainsGilly · 22/01/2019 21:13

I fucked off mid shift.

Working in a pub in my late teens. I worked Thursdays from 7pm till 3am, split shift Fridays so 9:30am till 5:30pm and then back at 7:30pm till about 4am, Saturdays 5:30pm till 4am, Sunday’s 9am till midnight, Mondays 9am till 7pm, Tuesdays 4pm till midnight.

Almost never had a break when I was on shift. Sometimes I could go for a wee if I begged Hmm Was often 5 people deep at the bar, extremely short staffed, for the sum of £4 an hour, the doormen were hideously abusive to all the female bar staff, but usual ignored me because I wasn’t their type (goth!) and I usually told them to fuck off if I heard them saying anything to the girls I worked with.

This particular night one of them decided to have a go. There had been 3 of us on all Saturday night, I was beyond exhausted. Thought he could grab my boobs as I went past him to go glass collecting.

I screamed in his face to fuck off (I’m 5 foot nothing and weighed about 6 stone), when I got back with both my arms full of pint glasses my boss told me to apologise

I looked at her. I asked if she was serious. She said she was.

So I told her to fuck off, dropped all the glasses so they smashed and walked out.

IJustLostTheGame · 22/01/2019 21:15

Post it note on your bosses monitor:
Fuck you
I quit

NoIsACompleteAnswerSometimes · 22/01/2019 21:17

I worked at a well known holiday village, and went really part time when I got a full time job elsewhere (1 Saturday in 4, just to keep my benefits)
The organization was shite, and when they moved offices it was a nightmare to find the keys, the paperwork, anyone in charge etc.
One day I'd had enough of trying to sort out other people's shit so rang in on the Monday to resign. My line manager said as I'd been there for so long, I had to give 13 weeks notice. (13 weeks notice for a 5 hour, once every 4 weeks job?) Don't think so. I told my line manager she had 2 choices, either accept my resignation or I'm off to get a doctor's note for 13 weeks and I'll get paid for those weeks, she can choose. (My doctor was aghast at the13 weeks notice idea, she asked if I was a brain surgeon or a director of ICI!)
Got my P45 that week, but was told I needed to come in for an exit interview. I asked if I would get paid for it, plus mileage as well and got told no, but they'd accept a written exit report. They got one, 4 A4 pages worth!

Smilingthru · 22/01/2019 21:19

My husband waited for his boss to go home then left the letter in his bosses laptop! He resigned with immediate effect (constructive dismissal and solicitor guided us through) so his boss came in to see an empty office where my husband should be and then found the letter! X

emzw12 · 22/01/2019 21:24

Just leave and don't go back - so long as you don't need a reference or any remaining / backdated pay.

Itsagamerchanger · 22/01/2019 21:43

When I was a student I worked in a snooty clothing chain store. My managed was a nut. She was ok with me because I kept my head down but was really nasty. ?One day we were all pulled in and told that someone on the team had been stealing so bag checks would happen at lunch times as well as after work etc. They KNEW it wasn’t me. I only ever did 6hour shifts so didn’t get a lunch break therefore my bag was always checked!

Anyway, later that day I took some fruit from a fruit basket that had been left to rot in the team room (unwanted gift for colleague- left for all to eat). I asked a colleague if anyone would mind if I took the pineapple. Both agreed that as there was no knife to carve such a fruit in the shop, it would be fine.

Manager then, the next day, tore my head off about STEALING from the tea room and how disgusting it was. I was so horrified and took it that she was implying I was the shop thief. I walked out mid shift, ignored all her calls and never went back. Even had a semi apologetic voicemail left.

I left that job off my cv.

Horsemenoftheaclopalypse · 22/01/2019 21:44

My last one was epic.

They passed me over for promotion and gave the job to a completely incompetent man, who actually ended up going to prison within the year for violent assault Shock despite me being a top performer and putting up with a head case of a boss...

Anywaaaay myself and another manager thought enough! And went to market...

in March (so just before April bonus) Senior management panic and decide as they can only give lousy pay rises to managers, they must give decent bonuses to the managers to keep them calm about dickheads promotion.

Then the other manager resigns...

They are now bricking it so I get told I’m being given both my bonus and manager who resigned’s bonus. (This is about 15k)

So I say thanks Hmm
And wait....
And wait...
And on pay day I walked in to the general managers office thanked him again for the bonus and handed him my resignation.

it felt amaaaaazing
AND I love my new company...
AND my new job is x10 as good and pays way more
GrinGrinGrin

RandomMess · 22/01/2019 21:47

I stacked up annual leave and flexible time so didn't have to work many days did 2 days per week for 3 weeks kind of thing Wink

Itsagamerchanger · 22/01/2019 21:52

I’ve just remembered another one! Worked in a shop. Owner was not particularly nice and intimidated me. I accidentally Lost the shop keys (unlabelled). I didn’t blame them for being annoyed. However I did object to them shouting and swearing at me about how much I had put the business at risk...then th lock smith came to change the door lock. He happened to tell me he was “also off to replace the back door lock as the owners lost the keys to it a year ago”. I was bloody fuming at the abuse I suffered when they fucking lost keys too!

So I told her by phone that I would not be come back and no I wouldn’t work my notice period.

Christ I had some balls when I was young Confused

trinitybleu · 22/01/2019 21:55

I booked 2 weeks holiday, which were the 2 weeks immediately after my bosses 2 weeks. Resigned by email at 5:25pm the day before she flew and just got a hasty "we'll talk when I get back" message.

Whilst she was off, I emailed her my leaving form, which had my leaving date as 1 month after resignation, which was correct. She said "but you're on 3 months notice??".... Oh no I'm not, said I. You never changed it when you changed all the other managers to 3 months.... 😂😂😂 Bye, Felicia

Cafeaulait27 · 22/01/2019 22:02

I once had a bitchy evil boss and one day she was bitchy to me at the start of a meeting. I popped out of the room to print something at my desk and suddenly realised I didn’t want to go back into that room. (I had already had an interview at another place and thought I had a good chance) so I walked out.

I told one of the other managers and cried which was annoying but felt great as soon as I left that awful place.

She sent me a text later that night saying she had been informed I’d gone home and could I let her know next time, and that we’d discuss it in the morning.

I just ignored it. I’ve never regretted it!!
