AIBU to be annoyed at Primark's return policy?

I know I am. I know they are not legally obliged to give me a refund on anything unless it is faulty. I just think their policy is really shitty.

Went into Primark today with a pair of PJs DD had been given for Christmas that were a size too small. We hadn't even taken them off the hanger as we knew they wouldn't fit, so they still had the labels on and everything where it should be.

Found the same pj's on the shop floor and they had her size and were the same price.

As they were a gift I didn't have the receipt and wasn't given a gift receipt for them but didn't think this would be a problem as I just wanted to exchange them.

Get to the till and was refused an exchange because I didn't have the receipt. Was told I needed to get the receipt and there was nothing they could do. So I either hope my friend still has the receipt and can post it to me, then make another trip into town, or I keep them and magically shrink my daughter?

What shall I do with tutu pj's that don't fit? 😑 It's been a few years since I worked in retail but if someone didn't have a receipt we'd exchange for the same product or put the current selling price on a gift card.

Bahh humbug!

I was recently in the queue at the customer service till behind a woman who wanted an exchange without a receipt. Poor staff member got some abuse when she refused.

@Housemum most shops have a 28 day policy, so no receipt means no indication as to when the item was bought or whether it was even bought in the first place. Happens a lot where people go into stores, pick up two items off the shelf and say they want an exchange but 'have no receipt'.

The supermarkets are a pain - I have got into the habit of saying “no receipt” on the Sainsbury’s self checkouts. I bought some cycle shorts and didn’t think about it - of course, I then couldn’t exchange them (Sainsbury’s has a no receipt/no exchange policy now as well). To be fair, as I’d paid by card they did say they might be able to find my receipt if I told them the date, and I could come back in a couple of days, but as they only cost £3 I just gave them to the charity shop. I’m extra careful now to get my receipt and I write “jeans”/“top”/whatever at the top so I don’t throw it out!!

I was given a primark skirt by a cousin years ago, i didn't have the reciept but it still had labels on it. i took it back and asked to swap for another item but they refused. About a month after that i bought a dress in there that did not fit. I had the reciept but the reciept was torn but i still had all the pieces, i queued for 45 mins in the marble arch branch to return it and they then refused to refund it as the reciept was torn. The assistant actually told me to take it to a charity shop. I said to him that i would never go in their shop again and i haven't, that was about 10 years ago!! I am convinced their policy is that people make lots of spontaneous purchases that they don't actually need or want and then they make it hard for them to return it

i always go to the cheekout first and ask if they say ok then i go and get bigger size usually in sainsburrys granddaughter is 3 but have to buy much bigger clothes

housemum where I worked they had a "no receipt" button for any exchanges without a receipt, so if someone exchanged without one and then tried to return the item for cash the receipt would state that there was no receipt from the exchanged item.

YABU - as someone else said you could have picked them straight up off the floor (no doubt some people might try this!)

Also it is 21st January now - Christmas day was almost a month ago! How long do you expect shops to take things back for - what took you so long to notice they were too small?

Granny bought BOXED PJ’s for grandchildren for Chris5mad but bought SIZES 12 -14 & 14-16 INSTEAD of AGES 10 & 12. She couldn’t find the receipt but I took them back ONLY for an exchange. Even although the BIG boxes were in a shopping bag, Primark would NOT even give an exchange. I asked for the manager who was adamant NO exchange would be given. He advised me to put them on Ebay!! or keep until kids grew into them !!
