Banksy

AIBU to think what a good idea it would be for Banksy to start drawing on walls of hospitals and charities, and then the money raised by selling the drawings would go to those in need. I'm sure the charity wouldn't object to having a portion of a wall removed and rebuilt for the sake of the thousands they would make from selling a Banksy. Just a thought....

100 percent no
We spend a lot of time in hospital with DD
We do not need the chaos

Bluelady · 19/01/2019 12:47

Why would I donate it to charity?

Chloemol · 19/01/2019 14:43

YABU. He is breaking the law by undertaking graffiti on walls etc. He needs to be caught and charged

Bluelady · 19/01/2019 14:56

What bollocks.

alltoomuchrightnow · 19/01/2019 14:59

He's anon, he wouldn't be able to do it, a hospital can't shut things down so someone can come in and paint anon

Sitranced · 19/01/2019 15:00

I think you've completly misunderstood work of Banksy.

Catsandbootsandbootsandcats · 19/01/2019 15:02

So as he's anonymous how do they know it's really a real Banksy and not just some normal graffiti artist? Does he do anonymous tip offs? But how do we know the tips off aren't just from someone else? It's all so confusing.

Anyway, I know The Doctor is really Banksy. Grin

bagpiss · 19/01/2019 15:06

Or he could (and may do- I don't know) just donate an original piece of art for them to auction instead.

TroysMammy · 19/01/2019 15:08

I don't know why the Port Talbot man who had a Banksy on his wall was so stressed. He didn't owe Banksy anything to keep it safe. If a graffiti artist without permission scrawled on my wall and someone else scrawled over it then tough shit.

Bluelady · 19/01/2019 15:11

Port Talbot man was stressed that he wouldn't get any money for it.

KonekoBasu · 19/01/2019 17:09

A lot of small charities that really need the money won't own the building their offices or whatever are in, so it's the landlord that would get the money.

Toddlerteaplease · 19/01/2019 17:30

Anyone else who draws on walls gets prosecuted. Don't know how he gets away with it.

Toddlerteaplease · 19/01/2019 17:32

@ScreamingValenta as would I. I'd be furious!

Thisnamechanger · 19/01/2019 17:34

De-rail brag! My friend is friends with him and he regularly comes up as a person you may know on Facebook. I've added him but he didn't approve it Grin

Didiusfalco · 19/01/2019 17:39

This isn’t quite the point of the thread, but do people really not know who he is, or is there some tacit agreement with the press that he won’t be named? I feel like a lot of people must know.

19lottie82 · 19/01/2019 17:44

If he painted my house, I'd be taking him
to the Small Claims Court to pay for sandblasting it off.

Yeah...... I’m sure Hmm

tinytemper66 · 19/01/2019 17:46

I live 10 mins away from it and have not been caught up in the frenzy of it all. I have yet to drive down to see it.

DonCorleoneTheThird · 20/01/2019 08:36

So it can't be art if it's applied directly to a wall. That means hundreds of murals painted over centuries aren't art. The Sistine Chapel isn't art. What an absurd argument.

can't you see a difference between a commissioned piece and damaging property that doesn't belong to you?
Will you react to the murals painted on the children hospital walls the same way you would react to a child drawing on it?

I can send my child to paint your wall if you want, how will you react to his "art"?

brizzledrizzle · 20/01/2019 08:52

but Banksy's 'anonymity' means he can't just paint on hospital walls so they can auction it off

He can paint in a balaclava if he wants.
I think he'd need to be careful of not costing the NHS more money for security whilst it was auctioned off.

malificent7 · 20/01/2019 08:58

In Bristol there is street art everywhete...on walls. Looks great and brightens up the concrete jungle.
He is not randomly spraying tags evwrywhere. His stuff is art.

malificent7 · 20/01/2019 09:01

Port Talbot man has sold it for 100,000 plus. He was offered more but wanted to keep it in Port Talbot.

brizzledrizzle · 21/01/2019 00:18

The street art is one my favourite things about Bristol Smile

Emilizz34 · 21/01/2019 00:38

This is something that confuses me . How does he make money and how do the people who’s property he draws on sell his work ? Are the walls dismantled and rebuilt elsewhere ?

brizzledrizzle · 21/01/2019 00:44

He sells some of his artwork, sometimes partially shredded and does various other things.

BlackCatSleeping · 21/01/2019 00:46

I think he also sells his work through an agency.

I heard about someone who found a Banksy on a door, so yes, they removed the whole door and sold it on.
