Daughter is 5 and she has had 5 years of gruelling treatment.
Anyway this year we are at home more, she is settling in to school and I really wanted to take her to Butlins in the summer holidays ( we wouldn’t get agreed time of as attendance is poor )
Anyway I looked at the cost and it’s over 1k for 4 nights ????? ( 2 adults 1 child ) have to taken another adult due to cares and equipment.
But is it even worth it ? I mean I’m genuinely shocked haha

That's expensive , what does it include ?

ChoudeBruxelles · 18/01/2019 15:37

Can you travel abroad? If so have a look at centre parcs in Holland

Aprilshowersarecomingsoon · 18/01/2019 15:40

Just booked a Haven caravan at the end of May (in school hols) for 2 adults +4 dc for £239!! You need to look for bargains op! Passes included.

pictish · 18/01/2019 16:05

God it’s a minefield. I too am taken aback, dismayed and feel insulted by the price these places will gaily charge. Their outgoings are huge of course but it’s still a tall order for your average Joe. In practical terms it’s not worth it, perhaps in wellbeing terms it is.
I know people who are very adept at finding bargain holidays but I dunno...the trawl to find the perfect deal...I haven’t the patience or the nerve.

Missingstreetlife · 18/01/2019 16:06

Eurocamp is fun. Our kids go back to school a week after Europe, so last week of holidays, after bank holiday, everything is cheaper

MoominAnna · 18/01/2019 16:06

I might be a terrible person but I'd take her during school dates. 5 years of gruelling treatment means you grab your joy where you can. A few more missed days of school at 5 isn't that important in the grand scheme of things (unless you're at risk of being fined. I'm not a parent)

youngestisapsycho · 18/01/2019 16:06

You need to look at The Sun newspaper £9.50 holidays.... we went to some great parks.

greendale17 · 18/01/2019 16:06

I wouldn’t pay that to stay in the UK

youngestisapsycho · 18/01/2019 16:07

And i agree with Moomin, go in term time if it’s cheaper....

Missingstreetlife · 18/01/2019 16:12

Butlins is a bit tacky, probably best for older kids, lots of free activities they can do alone. It does seem a lot of dosh, how much is Disney world Paris? Park holiday are ok and may do a deal. If you want to just have thrills and rides do a day trip to Thorpe park or similar. Have a lovely time, even a few days in a seaside cottage would be nice, boat trips and picnics are fun. Be well

IwantedtobeEmmaPeel · 18/01/2019 16:14

Op, why don't you start collecting the Sun savers codes to get you a much cheaper holiday, they start at £9.50. All you need to do is collect 10 Sun Savers codes or 10 tokens or codewords printed in The Sun between Saturday, January 5 and January 29 2019 or collect them via sunsavers.co.uk.

I think you could find a holiday lodge/chalet or basic cottage for less than Butlins.

hidinginthenightgarden · 18/01/2019 16:21

You have be pretty savvy with Butlins and book really far in advance. Along weekend might be cheaper.
We got 4 nights at Easter for £500 including food and that is for 4 of us. My kids are 3 and 6 and love it.

HTruffle · 18/01/2019 16:23

I believe the center Parcs venues in northern France can be far cheaper even for summer holidays, and you may be able to drive to save some money.

tictoc76 · 18/01/2019 16:25

I was just going to advise centerparcs in Holland too - it’s so much cheaper than here.

nutellalove · 18/01/2019 16:26

Wow. That's crazy expensive for butlins. Could you try an airbnb somewhere in the U.K., maybe close to the seaside/funfair etc?

suzy2b · 18/01/2019 16:26

i'm taking my 4yr granddaughter to butlins for 3 nights Feb half term £129 taking my 10yr in may half term 4 nights £269 can't take them together as they fight did a sun £9.50 before cost me £140

Proudandlovable0201 · 18/01/2019 16:28

Sorry I had to feed DD.
I know I’m really looking for somewhere just nice we have never ever been away for even a night before as I have been to scared !
So I think going abroad would be to much for me 😂
Any other ideas are welcomed

I agree look at Haven caravans or renting a cottage by the sea. If the weather's nice you won't use all the facilities anyway.

arethereanyleftatall · 18/01/2019 16:32

That seems really expensive for butlins. Its about £200 a night for a family of 4 in centre Parcs or a 5 star Euro camp, both of which are excellent.

Looneytune253 · 18/01/2019 16:34

NOBODY (almost) gets permission for holidays anymore. I would suggest that if you’re only intending on doing 4 days, try a weekend in term time rather than midweek and then she’ll only miss a fri and a mon. Permission won’t be granted and you’ll have to take your chances for a fine but I don’t think they fine for a cpl of days anyway

Weepingwillow5 · 18/01/2019 16:35

Think about renting a cottage . National Trust cottages site is good and their cottages are reliable . Or stay near a center parcs and buy a day pass . Longleat might be a good choice as the safari park is just down the road also . We’ve also used welshcountrycottages , which is actually the same company as the English equivalent

simonisnotme · 18/01/2019 16:37

hobourne torbay is a good site and if you use H+h caravans its cheaper than the hoboune prices and still can use the site facilities- pool, club etc

VQ1970 · 18/01/2019 16:37

If you're needing another adult due to caring and equipment, does this mean she has a disability? Can you get any discount anywhere for the carer?

I ask because I am my husband's carer and I get some free travel, depending on circumstances.

eve34 · 18/01/2019 16:37

Haven. Will have everything you want. Swimming. Soft play. Usually near a beach and disco in the evening she will have a ball. Can highly recommend doniford bay. Lovely site and not too big. Look at when your inset days are. Or go the Friday before school breaks up. They aren't going to fuss over 1/2 days. Although won't be Authorized

EvaHarknessRose · 18/01/2019 16:38

I don’t honestly believe Butlins or Centerparcs are ‘worth’ that price - especially not at their most crowded in the summer - although I have been to both with small dc and can be fun. Can you use an inset day to do a Centerparcs weekend in the spring? Have you got any tesco vouchers as we did a Butlins august bank holiday weekend once entirely on vouchers (obviously had a lot) I think the cost was £450. There are nice holiday parks in Woolacombe or Weymouth which you might enjoy.
