Daughter is 5 and she has had 5 years of gruelling treatment.
Anyway this year we are at home more, she is settling in to school and I really wanted to take her to Butlins in the summer holidays ( we wouldn’t get agreed time of as attendance is poor )
Anyway I looked at the cost and it’s over 1k for 4 nights ????? ( 2 adults 1 child ) have to taken another adult due to cares and equipment.
But is it even worth it ? I mean I’m genuinely shocked haha

There's a code for a bit off JUSTFORYOU and you can use Tesco Clubcard vouchers at Butlins. Out of term is much cheaper.

But I can fully recommend park dean holidays (caravan) too FAB and on the Sun holidays

Starlight456 · 18/01/2019 21:46

I would look at weekend term time . You will only need Friday and Monday off.

We did haven when Ds was younger. As he grew I found haven started to become a money pit . Butlins can be the same too.

Smellbellina · 18/01/2019 21:48

I just booked 7 nights in a caravan park in Dorset, right on the beach with a pub the other end of the lane with a petting corner and play park for £310 during the Easter holidays, maybe look for something during those 2 weeks?

Greyhound22 · 19/01/2019 06:04

Personally I would take her out. The poor girl has missed enough school for not so nice reasons let her miss some for a nice reason.

I know that school is important I totally get that but so is her having a bit of fun. If you get fined you do 🤷‍♀️ I don't think they fine until the term after they are 5 and it's £60 in my area - whereas you could save £500 on your holiday. She's 5 isn't she? She's not in the middle of SATs or GCSEs. Honestly wouldn't think twice.

Have a look at Bluestone depending where you are in the country. Would be lovely for her.

Have a look at flamingoland.

We hired a private caravan for £650 (( there's a private owners page on Facebook, the ones via flamingoland itself are extortionate. )) and then it was 240 for theme park/ zoo / entertainment passes for all of us. We loved it, absolutely pissed all over Butlins in terms of value for money and things to do. Wish I'd discovered the place years ago.

www.theleahwilbyfoundation.co.uk/

This foundation was set in memory of a colleagues daughter and provides holiday accommodation in a Great Yarmouth for families affected by childhood cancer. If this is your situation it might be worth contacting them

travailtotravel · 19/01/2019 07:24

I'm not sure of your daughters condition, but might be eligible for a Wish from make a wish? Your daughters wish might not be a trip away but they do some amazing things for poorly kids. You can look at eligible conditions on the website.

LellyMcKelly · 19/01/2019 07:27

Butlins is horrible. If you are driving what about renting somewhere in the New Forest and getting tickets for a few days at Paultons Park which is absolutely perfect for a 5 year old - Peppa Pig land, soft play, water parks, loads of suitable rides, walks, and things to look at. You could easily spend a few days there.

Daftness · 19/01/2019 07:27

Butlins would be perfect for your 5 year old and for you. But don't book and pay the price they quote now, the best way to get it cheaper is to wait until much nearer the time. It's a faff but nearer the time if you check the website everyday you can see what availability they have and you see the price reduce as it gets closer to the date you want. It's a gamble because if you wait too long then you may end up with nothing being available. It depends a bit on which accommodation you want. Certain apartments will be fully booked early on. We have managed to pay around £500 for a 4 night stay in the summer holidays staying in the Butlins hotels by waiting till the last minute to book. At Bognor there is a hotel geared up for the younger children. You can choose a dining package or you can eat around the resort and still manage to do thus in a budget. Hope you have a lovely holiday wherever you end up.

fabulous01 · 19/01/2019 07:33

We were looking at butlins last night and thought the same!
I have the sun tokens but I can't get the weekends we want. When we do it is full price. Need to research

Onlyjoinedforthisthread · 19/01/2019 07:33

Just booked a 3 bed cottage in the lake district 360 pounds at half term, it's 600 in summer hols they had plenty of others some more expensive some cheaper, try www.cumbria-cottages.co.uk

DeathMetalMum · 19/01/2019 07:44

I would also suggest Haven - it's not particularly our style of holiday. But the locations are great for exploring the local areas, and there is the safety net of the complex if the British weather decides to rain the whole time you are there. Meaning you don't have to spend loads of money finding things to do. You can just go swimming every day (or whatever activities are on).

Queenofthestress · 19/01/2019 07:50

I've just sent you a link for a facebook group where all the places to go are disability friendly and provide own hoists and the like

Bungleinthejungle · 19/01/2019 07:51

Have a look at Sandy Balls sites. They have lots of facilities, pool, bikes, a beach (at the Wales one, anyway) and I just checked it's £584 for four nights in a luxury caravan from the 27th July. I've only heard of them because a friend used to stay there when her kids were little and she always loved it.

Lalalalalalaland · 19/01/2019 08:15

I second looking at away resorts. We stayed at sandy balls in new forest over new year and it was fab.

I dint know the nature of your daughters disability but they have accessible lodges and hoists etc for the swimming pool

UpTree · 19/01/2019 08:20

Butlins is not nice Confused It’s tacky and run down and full of piss heads with kids.

Centre Parcs or Blue Stones is a similar price and is much nicer.

As is splashlandings, alton towers hotel, flamingo land.

I’d probably stay in a hotel somewhere though near an attraction she’d like, rather than the whole package things... often cheaper as booking seperately too

fourquenelles · 19/01/2019 08:47

Have a look at the Manor House Hotel in Oakhampton. Fully inclusive and a huge range of activities and crafts included.

LoniceraJaponica · 19/01/2019 08:54

Is there an organisation or charity related to your daughter's disability?

When DD was little she had a medical issue. The charity associated with this issue owned a caravan at a seaside resort. We stayed there with DD when she was 2..

LittleSwede · 19/01/2019 09:29

If she's disabled maybe look at what some of PP have suggested regarding holidays for SN kids rather than Butlins/Haven etc.

If going abroad is an option Centre Algarve looks pretty good. Haven't actually been, yet, but have looked at as DD has SN and it looks like they cater for all sorts of disabilities. They get glowing reviews on TripAdvisor so hopefully as good as they claim.

scousema · 19/01/2019 09:36

Have a look on groupon and Wowcher

Oorwulliesbucket · 19/01/2019 09:44

Have you heard of calums cabin? It might be of use to you. Its on the Isle of Bute. Its is the most amazing charity.

Proudandlovable0201 · 19/01/2019 10:39

Hi thanks for all your advice.
We are waiting to hear back from make a wish but they are struggling to get hold of our general pead.
She hasn’t got cancer so none of those charities apply.
But she is for example on that level.
( intestinal failure, complex heart disease , chronic lung disease, immune compromised ) but the main thing is very unheard off and sometimes can get a little difficult when it comes to services etc
For instance she has 16 hours of iv’s running at home, I access her blood stream. Up hourly during the night and we have never even had a days respite !
I had a look at haven last night which seems a fair bit cheaper ? Are they ok ?

I would give calums cabin a phone anyway, there good for accommodating medical needs etc...
