Was talking about this with some friends yesterday and curious to know what have people experienced with their children?

My daughter when she was 3 bit into a laundry liquid tablet 🙈 was the scariest thing and I was a panicked mess!

She also sprayed bathroom bleach in her eye when we visited my mum which was equally as horrific!

Funnily enough though my other 3 have never done anything like this, or stuck anything up there nose. Unlike me at 6 years old getting a diamanté stuck my nostril and spending a night in hospital because they was struggling to retrieve it 😬

DS put a pussy willow fluffy thing up his nose, then rammed it up further with a pencil for good measure.
Not long after he swallowed a coin. 🙄

phlebasconsidered · 18/01/2019 21:44

Dd collected over 30 of those black and orange striped caterpillars from our veg patch. She ate all bar 2. Didn't even get a squitty tummy. She also ate her own hair clippings because she "wanted it back".
Ds ate a jar of tiger balm and a lump of coal. Both kids have enjoyed the dogs bonios.

MorningsEleven · 18/01/2019 21:48

DS def swallowed a milk tooth

DD did twp in a week. Being a responsible parent I said "That'll hurt your bumhole when the bite you on the way out".

MorningsEleven · 18/01/2019 21:50

Two and they.
Can't type.

A drawing pin; one of those with a brightly-coloured plastic sphere on its end. I discovered it in her poo on changing her nappy.
A&E said she must have been OK as it had worked its way through and I she hadn't been distressed at all in the previous couple of days.
I still feel awful about it.

Schmoobarb · 18/01/2019 21:53

Oh and there was the time I found the youngest eating a Greggs sausage roll he’d found in the garden. I hadn’t been to Greggs for about 3 months. It still looked ok too worryingly (I didn’t take him to a and e)

steppemum · 18/01/2019 21:54

dd2 was 18 months and we were living in Central Asia. We had some Russian vinegar in the cupboard, and we just didn't realise how dangerous it was. It is veyr strong, about 70% acid.

Dd ws playing at emptying my tins out fo the cupboard while I was washing up and I looked down to see she had pulled the lid off (and it was a bloody diffucult lid to get off) and took a swig.

We had no idea how bad that was, rinsed her mouth out and comforted her. When she went on crying, I phoned a local doctor friend (A&E was very primitive and rubbish) and asked for advice. She said wash her mouth out with bicarb and phone an ambulance.

Dd was very unwell. We ended up flying back to UK on medical evacuation, and she had 13 operations over the next year. It also meant we packed up and left our life in Central Asia.

I remain horrendously guilty that we didn't know about the vinegar, and it was kept in that cupboard within reach. Afterwards local friends told us the dangers were well known, people used to use it to try and commit suicide. It was one of those times when we just didn't know local culture well enough.

Dd2 is our 3rd child, and the older 2 had never been so into everything as she was.

Dd2 is now 11 and fine, but that was one of the worst years of my life.

fishym2b · 18/01/2019 21:56

5p by my youngest. He thought it was a chocolate coin at Christmas Hmm I also put a Lego brick into my brother's ear when we were younger.

DrPeppersPhD · 18/01/2019 21:58

I used to eat contact lenses and drink the solution, but nothing more deadly than that

Racheyg · 18/01/2019 21:58

Both ds1......
When he was 4 he drank olbas oil - 6 hours in a&e as is toxic

2 weeks ago.....he put a pea up his nose for fun. Couldn't blow it out and couldn't reach it. He is 5 1/2

Drivenmad80 · 18/01/2019 22:01

I spilt super glue on my dd when she was a baby 😬 my ds ate a ladybird 🤢

Toomanycats99 · 18/01/2019 22:01

My dd stuck a pea up here nose......she was 7! You would think she would know better by then!

OhTheRoses · 18/01/2019 22:01

DS ate half a pack of contraceptive pills. I called the GP and she just laughed and told me to take him in if hew grew boobs.

lunar1 · 18/01/2019 22:10

Two wires that had been keeping a toy in its cardboard prison. After 24 hours in hospital we had a fun week of nappy checking.

ChiaraRimini · 18/01/2019 22:10

Button type batteries are really dangerous if swallowed and can burn a hole in a child's oesophagus. I know this is meant to be a lighthearted post but please folks never let little kids get their hands on these.

whyameyehere · 18/01/2019 22:15

dd2 has swollowed a coin twice, once aged 5 which you can sort of understand, once a few months ago at the age of 12, she should really know better(never really got to the bottom of how it happened but she was messing about with one of her friends)

NigelGresley · 18/01/2019 22:44

@gentlyscented
Nope, I can think of many things to “make me feel great” but I assure you this isn’t one of them.
I have zero interest in trying to look clever for strangers on the internet.

MrsTommyBanks · 18/01/2019 22:47

My Dsis and Dbro as toddlers managed to climb up to the top shelf in the walk in pantry and eat 3 months of contraceptive pills. Both had their stomachs pumped.
My Dsis was a horror as a child.

Lobsterquadrille2 · 18/01/2019 23:04

@YouTheCat we hear that a lot in AA! No insinuation at all.

YouTheCat · 18/01/2019 23:13

As I sit here with my second glass of wine, I can confirm my alcohol problems were sorted before I was 3.

I have a couple of glasses of wine/beer or gin at the weekend and I can happily take or leave it. Grin

LondonElle · 18/01/2019 23:47

My nightmare second son was thirsty so filled his cup from our tropical fish tank and drunk it!

Knittedgnome · 19/01/2019 02:24

Ummmm. How many kids on this thread alone ha e eaten the pill? Is it sugary or something?! Or boys being oddly drawn to hormone tablets?! Grin

GetOnWithLife · 19/01/2019 04:03

My youngest ate a glow stick and said it burned, had to call poisons info and they advised to give her milk.

She’s also swallowed a coin and got a bead stuck up her nose, she got scared and cried and it came out luckily.

Wingedharpy · 19/01/2019 04:42

Not DC.
Not even a child but a reasonably sensible middle aged relative.
His DW handed him 4 pills and he promptly swallowed them down with his cup of tea.
Only, they were meant for the dog!
Frantic phone calls ensued and he was reassured by a HCP that he would be fine.
She couldn't resist asking him if his nose felt wet though and was he getting an urge to cock his leg.

Autumn101 · 19/01/2019 04:58

My youngest was the culprit for this in our house! Although not when toddler age all over 5......

Swallowed LEGO a few times, having to check it had passed through wasn’t fun. Swallowed his first 2 milk teeth. Worst was a marble sized ball bearing, he didn’t tell me he’d swallowed it. In a hotel bathroom with him before we left for the airport and he said he had tummy ache and needed a poo, next thing I know there’s this big clang in the loo as the ball bearing exited! Apparently he ‘forgot’ he’d swallowed it but he was pretty sure he’d only swallowed the one. Panicked phonecall to my sister (a GP) who said if he sets off the alarm at security at the airport go to hospital if not he’ll be fine 😂
