caperplips · 18/01/2019 10:09

Meant to say i tend to be apple shaped when I gain weight and carry it all around my middle so I am keen to lose this asap

gamerwidow · 18/01/2019 10:11

That 2.5 stone is an amazing achievement though and I bet you can still notice it even if you haven’t dropped many sizes.
Just your day to day moving about must feel so much better.
Keep going!

gamerwidow · 18/01/2019 10:13

P.s. if you carry you weight on your boobs it’s harder to drop dress sizes even at size 10 on my waist if have to wear 14/16 tops and dresses.

QueenofallIsee · 18/01/2019 10:16

I agree it’s about where you carry the weight.

Also in my experience (and I am really not being rude I hope as I have been much much bigger myself) I am now a 5ft7 size 12 when this time in 2017 I would have said I was a 14.
I have lost over 3 stone close to 4 stone....my personal reality is that I never tried on tailored clothes/jeans in a 14 except in shops where I ‘knew’ i was a 14. I was in denial about my actual size. I do think that has a bearing on what you describe - a stone and 2/3 sizes could suggest something similar? And that’s OK I might add, shops are swines! But I do know that I see this often - a beautiful friend claims to now be a 10 after brilliant weight loss.....she’s not, she is a curvy 12 who can buy size 10 leggings in Next. And it matters not a jot, she looks great.

LuluMelons · 18/01/2019 10:17

Clothes sizes won't help you to get down to a healthy weight as sizes vary between shops. Go by measurements instead.

CantWaitToRetire · 18/01/2019 10:23

It will depend on your starting weight, height, body frame etc.

I'm 5'7" and I've lost 2.5 stone in the last 9 months. I'm pear shaped and started a size 20. In some stores I fit size 16 jeans/trousers, but other shops they'll be too tight. I want to get to a size 12, so goodness knows how much more I have to lose!

troubleswillbeoutofsight · 18/01/2019 10:30

I’m short and not immensely overweight. I drop a dress size with every stone I lose

EmeraldShamrock · 18/01/2019 10:31

Yes it is shit but definitely depends on the length of the body. The flip side is if you gain two stone when you're tall it is easier to hide, gain two stone when short is very obvious. Although if you feel healthy and clothes sit better who cares about the label.

JeezYouLoon · 18/01/2019 10:39

@caperplips I'm exactly the same as you 5'9" and aiming to be under 11 stone so far I'm half a stone down with another half to go.

I just want to bin the scales and make sure I'm an easy 12 (10 in the vanity size shops). Years ago I binned all my 14s as it's too easy to have a 'fat' wardrobe and a 'thin' one. Plus I don't have the space nor the funds Wink

Keep going OP and try to focus on how the clothes fit you and how you feel inside not how the clothes make you feel!

Ethel36 · 18/01/2019 10:42

Same here when I lose a stone I stay the same size clothes..Just no rolls!

MagicMojito · 18/01/2019 10:43

I tend to go by the thinking "it took me 1 year to put this weight on so I'll allow myself the same amount of time to get it off" I'm 5"7 now and weigh 12.5 stone which is on the heavy side for me and carry my weight all over and am a very tight fitting and uncomfortable 12 Grin denial, me?

Bumblebee39 · 18/01/2019 10:43

Can take me 4 stone to go up or down a dress size, and I'm in small-ish sizes.

malificent7 · 18/01/2019 10:44

Don't forget that different shops do different dress sizes. H and M can be on tbe small side whereas New Look is more generous. Also depends on body shape. I have big tits...sounds good but it means i am a bigger size up top than down below.

Try to focus on weight loss ...dress size shift will come.

MillionScarletRoses · 18/01/2019 10:55

Don’t be hung up on dress size, people. It is pretty meaningless, same as the figure on the scales. 10 years ago when I was slim and young, I worked with a very overweight lady, obese actually. Imagine our surprise when we discovered we wore the same size (14) and the colleague actually weighed less than me!

Sizes mean sh£&. A much better yardstick is tape measurements and better still progress pictures.

I lost 2.5 stone and went from big size 18 to big 14. I continued lifting weights with an occasional spin class and put on a stone since. However, I look thinner and more toned!! My size 14 is comfortable now and not in any way tight. My posture is loads better, I stand tall - that alone can take 15 years off you. I see the rolls of fat disappearing and the outlines of my body firming up. Yet I am now heavier than 9 months ago.

When people look at you, then can’t tell the dress size, let alone weight figure. They can tell good proportions, slim waist, pert bum and general toned look.

Really forget about figures of any sort. Work on it until it feels right and good for YOU. Until you like what you see in the mirror.

The best way to monitor progress is take pictures every so often. Even if the scales have not changed or increased, but you see a slimmer, more toned body, you know you have made headway.

Best of luck to all of you 💐

Crustaceans · 18/01/2019 11:00

As with all these things, it really depends on you and your body. I’m 5’6 and 58kg. I have lost about 10kg in the last year (the wonderful effects of leaving a miserable, abusive relationship and starting to enjoy life) and went from a 12-14 to somewhere between 6-10 depending on the shop. So that is sometimes only one dress size for 1.5 stone. But I definitely look so much better. And, more importantly, I feel better about myself.

As others have said, it really isn’t so much about the number on your clothes labels but in his much better you feel for losing weight. Clothes sizing is often stupidly random anyway these days so it’s not worth worrying about it.

thenightsky · 18/01/2019 11:03

I have to lose about 2 stone to properly drop a size. By that I mean I could lose 1 stone and squeeze into a lower size, but it wouldn't look or feel too nice.

BentNeckLady · 18/01/2019 11:06

I was 14.7 stone and size 18. I’m now 11 stone and 10-12. Everyone carried weight differently don’t they 🤷🏽‍♀️

sherrysfortea · 18/01/2019 11:10

I don't pay too much attention dress sizes. I like things to be baggier so just buy everything in a bigger size anyway. My wardrobe ranges from size 10 to 18 and everything fits/ looks OK.

JulietAconite · 18/01/2019 11:21

I hear you! I've lost 3 stone and gone down one jeans size.
I undeniably look and feel better and get motivation from the numbers - weightloss, reduced body fat %, lower BMI - but I would have hoped to drop dress sizes a bit quicker...

BirthdayCakes · 18/01/2019 11:47

Well done on your loss anyway - I'd be delighted to lose that amount!

delboysskinandblister · 18/01/2019 12:47

OP - I lost a stone just by cutting out alcohol. Honestly don't miss it (and I used to get through 3 bottles of Shiraz a week). Made a difference to tummy shape and dress size too.

The more processed crap you can cut out the more your shape changes as well as your weight loss and then you notice the dress size drops. Good luck! Smile

OutPinked · 18/01/2019 13:01

I lost 7 stone and dropped five dress sizes from a 20 to 10. It took me a year all in all, I was extremely dedicated and exercised a lot. I think after the first two stone I’d most likely lost two sizes thinking about it, I’d have gone from a 20 to 16.

Maybe it’s more to do with body shape and where you lose/gain the weight. I gain and subsequently lose all over rather than one specific place.

guildTheLilly · 18/01/2019 13:04

toxic femininity

foxtiger · 18/01/2019 14:43

I once lost just over 2 stone and only went down one size. I've since put it all back on (and a bit more) and only gone back up to my original size. I don't know why.
