5ft2 and an unforgiving small, pear-shaped build. My bust is the last place I gain it. There's 3/4 stone between a mid-range BMI and getting a double chin and pregnancy rumours. A stone above my ideal is pushing up a dress size.

I had to buy new maternity clothes AFTER DS was born because under the bump rubbed on my CS wound, and I didn't have over the bump in stock because my bump was too big. I outgrew most maternity clothes by the end of the second trimester, having gone into them at 8 weeks. Confused

I always keep half an eye on maintaining in a certain range because my body is so unforgiving when I exceed it!

I recommend a tin of rancid tuna and a tape worm, works wonders 😉
I’m with you here op, it’s a bloody struggle x

chipsandgin · 17/01/2019 23:55

I’m 6’ & 2 to 2.5 stone is a difference of one dress size (16 down to to 14 in recent times, but in the distant past was the same going from a 14 to a 12). It also means that gaining 4.5 stone only took me up 2 dress sizes, whereas shorter friends I know have gone up at least 2 dress sizes with a relatively minimal weight gain. All proportional. I get it though OP it is frustrating..

toriatoriatoria · 17/01/2019 23:59

I'm 5"1, size 12 (I carry my weight on my top half). I lost 2 stone and stayed a size 12... Very disheartening.

JasperKarat · 18/01/2019 01:03

I lost four stone and went from a 16 to a ten, lost half a stone more dropped to an eight, and got told I looked ill. FML. I'm five foot eight, pretty flat chested and carry weight around the middle

delboysskinandblister · 18/01/2019 01:08

Cut out refined sugars and refined carbs. Makes a big difference to loss of bloat as well as loss in body fat.

You may find your weight plateaus but walking swimming and cycling are excellent at toning and therefore honing your bodyshape whilst you lose weight. When the plateau starts just chuck out the scales and go by dress size. Keep going.. Smile

@PJsandBaileys

At least you've got a waist - even at size 10 and 5'8 and a bit, I am straight up and down like a shit house door Grin

halfwitpicker · 18/01/2019 01:12

These are unbelievable. I thought it was a stone = a dress size?

This makes me feel better. I’m a stone down but don’t know where it’s gone. Hopefully off the internal organs (that’s a thing right?). I wasn’t expected to slip in clothes like a teenager but thought there’d be some difference! If it takes another stone and a half I’ll be furious.

SleepingStandingUp · 18/01/2019 01:15

Not just you OP. I've lost and regained numerous stones but cannot get below a size 18. I'd love to know what weight I need to be to get into a size 16!!
I'm 5 ft 4 so on the average /short side but a "perfect" hourglass in that my large hips measure nearly identical to my hips at most weights with a smaller waist. I am big boned too so will never make it below a size 10 but god damn it, I want to get into a 16

SleepingStandingUp · 18/01/2019 01:18

Not a chance.

For those who lose half a stone and drop7 dress sizes (OK slight exaggeration) do you fit as comfortably in your smaller sizes?
I know people who will swear blind they e dropped 2 sizes but in actual fact they've gone from say a size 20 fitting fine, maybe a little loose to hide the fat to a size 16 that they're absolutely squeezed into with bits hanging over the sides.

jessstan2 · 18/01/2019 01:40

It's possible, I did it years ago. At first it was slow and then the weight fell off me. I was much healthier after losing the excess and more energetic.

The thing to do is not to put pressure on yourself or have a deadline.

Good luck! [flower] but no Wine

JaceLancs · 18/01/2019 08:50

I’ve lost 5 stone and gone from an 18 to a 12
I need another 1.5 stone to get to size 10 which is my aim

FaceLikeAPairOfTits · 18/01/2019 08:58

Surely there's so much variation between shops and even within one shop's range that sizes aren't anything to get too worked up about? I'm a porker but slowly becoming less of a porker. I know I have tops in my wardrobe that don't fit and won't for ages, but other ones of the same size are currently fine.

gamerchick · 18/01/2019 08:59

It still bloody frustrating though however I guess the upside is I can gain a bit and not really show it

Yep, that's the other side of the coin. Where's at 5ft 1 if I put on 7lbs I go up a size. Every lb shows.

Just keep trucking.

littlepeas · 18/01/2019 09:02

I lost almost 2 stone last year and went from a 14/16 to a 12/14 - lots of my clothes just fit a bit better, rather than me needing to go down a size. I'm 5ft 6in, so not petite, but also not that tall! I carry weight very evenly though, and don't have a particular 'problem zone'.

Lost5stone · 18/01/2019 09:12

I'm 5ft 8 and lost 5stone went from a 20 to a 12 (well can squeeze into 10 but I like a looser fit). However I would say I was probably only a 16 by some peoples standards, I just never leggings etc and all my clothes were looser

StatisticallyChallenged · 18/01/2019 09:15

I think the body shape thing has a lot to do with it - I'm also a (fat) hourglass and can gain a fair amount before going up a size because it goes on everywhere. But that also means dropping dress sizes is slower. At the lightest I've ever been as an adult I was a 12 - although they were big on the waist - whilst 5.5 stone heavier than that was a large 16. I have naturally big hips/boobs and seem to be a size 14 for about 3 stone

I reckon the same thing is behind a lot of these threads where people compare height/weight and dress size and there's massive discrepancies. I'm always way heavier than the weight a lot of posters say they are at the same dress size. And I'm careful about fit, I don't wear stuff too small.

FuzzyCustard · 18/01/2019 09:17

I'm 5'8" and have recently lost 2.5 stone. I've gone from a 16/18 to a 14 ish. It doesn't seem much for months of effort, but my BMI is much improved. I've still got big boobs (34E) which may account for why fitted (shirt style) 14 tops can still be too tight.

I hear you OP.

I lost almost 6 stone and didn't need to buy any new clothes at all.

It completely screwed my motivation.

RB68 · 18/01/2019 10:05

Even at 8st I was a 12 so I don't hold out too much hope for a 12 again in my lifetime

caperplips · 18/01/2019 10:08

I think it must depend on your body shape?
I am 5ft 9" on the 2nd Jan I was 12st 7lbs - my heaviest yet! I was squeezing myself into tight 12's (as most of my clothes are a size 12 and did not have means or desire to buy a larger wardrobe) and a couple of 14's which were def more comfortable.

This morning I am 12st 2lbs, and already I can feel a difference in some things .

My aim is to get back to 10st 10lbs and I will be a comfortable 10/12 then - it is my ideal weight!

SushiMonster · 18/01/2019 10:09

2.5 stone for me woudl be a fuck of a lot more than 2 dress sizes! I would go from healthy, fit and nice looking to skeletal.

Depends on your starting weight dos;t it?

It is easier to loose 2.5 stone when you have loads of extra to start with, but on the flip side you don't 'drop' as many sizes.
