... to buy two of the same nightie??

I know this is daft, and it's up to me, but this is really strange.

I had to buy some emergency clothes in another city, so bought the cheapest things I could find, including a nightdress that I was convinced was going to be awful, but was dramatically reduced. When I got back to the hotel and tried it on it, it was really flattering and actually made me feel happy.

So, I'm thinking I would always like this in my life. Would IBU to see if I can track down another one now I'm home?! Does anyone buy 2 of something because they like it so much (knickers and bras not withstanding)...?

I have 4 pairs of Uggs in different colours.

DaysOfCurlySpencer · 16/01/2019 23:00

When I find something I really like I buy 2, or 3. I tend to wear the same things until they fall apart.

UterusUterusGhali · 16/01/2019 23:00

God yes!
Do it!

My OH buys 5 of the same trousers/white t every couple of years and wears them to death.
No worries in the morning and nobody actually notices of you wear the same thing every day as long as you don't smell. It seems massively liberating

greenlynx · 16/01/2019 23:05

I do this as well especially with jeans and t-shirts, make washing simpler. I have 2 of the same coats at the moment. DH’s got 3 of the same shirts.

lborgia · 16/01/2019 23:06

Lol, in the time it's taken me to drive to gp you've all joined the chorus! It's not on their website, so will call a couple of shops. I'm in Oz, so probably not helpful you most of you.

Thanks for that, I'll keep the idea for future too!

I have various duplicated pairs of jammies.

And repeatedly buy the same markses skinny jeans and even ones in the same colour can be a completely different fit!

lborgia · 16/01/2019 23:11

Mm, chew I was thinking of going in and just trying all their sleep stuff, because maybe others will have the same cut... but maybe not.

So nice to have something frivolous to think about (and a unanimous AIBU!).

If I really love something, I buy 5. Otherwise I may never be able to find it again.

It does make my wardrobe look a bit confusing.

longtimelurkerhelen · 16/01/2019 23:14

Here is another reason to wear the same clothes. Nice to know we are in illustrious company.

onalongsabbatical · 16/01/2019 23:23

No idea if you like Angela Merkel, OP, but what about this for knowing what you like to wear!

northernlassatheart · 16/01/2019 23:47

Nothing wrong with buying the same thing twice. My DD has a favourite t-shirt, pretty basic not expensive but a style that really suited her. I ordered her another exactly the same so she didn't have to keep asking me when it was out of the wash. When it arrived there had obviously been an error in the packing as instead of one t-shirt they'd posted 4!! I'm ashamed to say that we said nothing and kept them (maybe we are to blame for M&Ss recent decline in profits 😬)

uncomfortablydumb53 · 17/01/2019 00:21

I wear one of 14 pairs of top shop jeans and one of 22 joules harbour tops every day... with the same Clark's boots in either black or brown I'm 54 and disabled so don't work

Purpleartichoke · 17/01/2019 00:42

I just finished folding my laundry. It included 7 pairs of identical pajamas. I also own multiples of favorite dresses, leggings, tops, etc.

DeRigueurMortis · 17/01/2019 00:51

I do this a lot.

If I find something I really like I've gone back and bought multiple versions of it (not just 2!!).

I've got 4 pairs of shoes all in different colours, a pair of knee high boots in brown and black etc etc

I have a favourite jumper x4 all in the same colour - because I always want one clean and I want 2 in reserve when the current 2 I use inevitably wear out.

Tbh I don't like clothes shopping but I do like to make an effort, so when I find something that works for me I "invest" in it (as long as it's a classic item rather than a fashion one).

Accessories are under-rated (not that this would be a consideration for a nightie!) and it's amazing how much the same clothes can be transformed into a different look with a belt/scarf/jewellery/handbag/shoes etc

For example I have the same top/skirt combo in grey and navy - but they look very different when worn but equally flattering.

So my only advice would not to only buy one but buy 3 of you like it so much ;-)

lborgia · 17/01/2019 01:09

I understand doing it for work as I always used to see it as being like uniform... but where I am now, I know the other women seem to have new shoes, tops etc weekly (unless I'm just very unobservant). I once had a "friend" who commented that she was sick of seeing me in one particular top. My son has also had comments from one close friend about his favourite trousers. That wasn't spiteful, more curious about why he wore them so much Grin

My wardrobe is full of doubles and trebles. I loved one particular pair of boots so much that I bought seven pairs.

Dafspunk · 17/01/2019 02:17

Every 2-3 years, I walk into GStar and say ‘I’ll have a new pair of these please’, pointing to the jeans I’m wearing.

Sunnysidegold · 17/01/2019 06:36

Do it! I really regret not buying more pairs of my favourite sandals when I had the chance and now they are discontinued. They were so comfortable and easy to wear. I got the sole glued on after two summer's of wear but they won't last a third. It make a me.very sad.

AJPTaylor · 17/01/2019 06:41

Nothing wrong with that. Did you see the documentary Chris Peckham did about his life? I loved his clothing racks with multiples of clothes he liked.

LellyMcKelly · 17/01/2019 06:45

For work I have the same shoes in navy and black, and the same trousers in a few different colours. I just need to find a plain white top I really like and then I’ll buy 5 of them. Then All I need to do is wear a different jacket and scarf for a whole range of looks.

monkeysox · 17/01/2019 06:49

Bras. Same size and style. Three or four in black, same in white.

Windrunner · 17/01/2019 14:24

Found the perfect sweater a couple of months ago, and I bought 10 of it (2 times 5 different colours) so YADNBU!

HappyPunky · 17/01/2019 14:32

I bought six of the same style nightie in different colours and patterns to take to hospital when I had DD.

I passed them on to my mum who loves them.

BarbaraofSevillle · 17/01/2019 14:33

I once had a "friend" who commented that she was sick of seeing me in one particular top

What business is it of her's? Feeling the need to have loads of different clothes is just another stick to beat women with. No-one notices what men wear, even if it's the same thing every day, why shouldn't women have the same freedom?

If you're in Australia, you might remember the Australian newsreader who wore the same suit on air every day for a year to demonstrate the sexism that his female colleague, who was expected to wear different clothes all the time:

www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/womens-blog/2014/nov/17/male-tv-presenter-same-suit-year-female-colleagues-judged

If you like new clothes every week, then fine, although that can be an environmental nightmare, but if you've rather just wear the same things all the time, it's really liberating when you realise you can do this as it can reduce the mental load a little.

Lindtnotlint · 17/01/2019 14:38

I had ten pairs of the same shoes for work (swapping to new pairs as the old ones wore out). They were beautiful and comfortable. Then they were discontinued - I wish I had bought 20...
