AIBU to think everyone should know what epoxy repair putty is?

This is probably not the proper place for this but epoxy repair putty is the best ever and I just want people to know what it is. It is a two part putty that is kneaded together and then sets hard.
I have repaired our vaccum cleaner which had two great cracks and is now perfectly usable. Also used it on plastic leaking plumbing pipe under the sink. Have fixed metal, hard plastic and ceramic.
I used it for repairing favourite toys that would otherwise go in the bin.
Anyone else used it with success?

You can also cover furniture or floors with literally any finish and colour you want or could use a clear resin and put something underneath - eg a layer of coins or pictures

I haven't heard of any of these wonder products!
I must try them all 😁 thank you so much 😁

TrickyBiscuits · 16/01/2019 00:23

Does it work on wrinkles?

Lucylugs · 16/01/2019 00:24

Sugru and this epoxy look exciting! Love all the hacks out there for them.

MixedMaritalArts · 16/01/2019 00:57

I have successfully used Sugru on freezer drawers, and am too tight to pay £109 for new i pad holder and keyboard contraption where the edge of the screen support broke so I’ve bodged that too. Heath Robinson is my inspiration. Used a chopstick as a rolling pin for a smooth finish.

LemsipLemsipLemsip · 16/01/2019 03:27

I’ve been a Sugru fan for a few years. Can’t believe I’ve missed this! I can almost guarantee I will be spending far too much time later watching YouTube hack/DIY/repair videos!

Both the handles (where hinge goes into arm) on my glasses fell off within 2 months of each other, only 1 1/2 years old! So angry. I've just used this glue on them in the hope they will last a bit longer! I know it's not a great solution but just after Christmas and a trip abroad I cannot afford a new pair just yet!

Crinklesmile · 16/01/2019 07:04

Lucylugs

That putty is brilliant.
We have been renovating and punctured an old pipe, fixed it no sweat.
I like isopon for wood/metal and arldite for rubber/small fixes.

There is always a bit of a nervous moment when mixing tho!

Also try Belzona metal repair. Standing joke in my house that dh will try to fix anything with it "Car literally broken in half. Try Belzona!" Grin

665TheNeighbourOfTheBeast · 16/01/2019 07:18

Also may I introduce
"Plastic weld" glue. Amazing stuff and can virtually invisibly stick together the edges of cracked plastic. Many many things have avoided landfill in our house because of this.

GreenDragon75 · 16/01/2019 08:03

Juniper - I take pictures of things too. I don’t know how to do a screenshot. Will get the kids to show me later as I often put the link in a message to myself so I have it. A screenshot would be much easier.

wowfudge · 16/01/2019 08:05

I need to visit the fantastic ironmongers near work at lunchtime I think. I need some of these products in my life. Have just realised we can repair DP's broken glasses too

ClemHFandango · 16/01/2019 08:13

Also have a look at Whitemorph. It’s a mouldable thermoplastic that you activate by putting in boiling water. Then you can mould it into whatever shape you like. You can even remould it again after use. My husband got me some for Christmas because I’d been banging on about it.

rightreckoner · 16/01/2019 08:18

Exciting. I am contemplating breaking something just to have an opportunity to use it.

MamaLovesMango · 16/01/2019 08:37

My glasses are held together solely by epoxy glue at the moment. I’m going out to get some of these later. Car exhaust needs patching up......

A tolly is another word for a shite in Glasgow.

Bringing a new meaning entirely to Captain Tolly’s Creeping Crack Cure.

MeYouWye · 16/01/2019 08:40

We've brought a new house recently and keep finding this stuff on random parts of the house. It's hideously ugly!

FlibbertyGiblets · 16/01/2019 08:44

This thread is weirdly uplifting. V make do and mend feel. Nice work, peeps.

GerdaLovesLiIi · 16/01/2019 08:50

I fixed an engine block with it (nothing structural, just a water seep). It kept an otherwise old, unfixable vehicle on the road for another 5 years and saved me hundreds of pounds. My favourite brand is by US company JB Weld, but that's because it's what I first used. Marvellous stuff!

Jimjamjong · 16/01/2019 08:52

I have used epoxy repair on a chipped bathtube, it worked ok but the finish wasn't the best (I covered with a special paint but it wasn't as smooth as the original). Sugru was a big deception, it doesn't stick like it is supposed to so the "fixing" doesn't last.

dudsville · 16/01/2019 08:58

I wish schools had courses on life basics. There used to be cooking, sewing and... What was this... i once stripped varnish off an old table and revarnished it, don't know what that classed was called... but these were useful classes. Imagine a class introducing you to products like this that fixed a problem rather than buying new!
