Considering the media say we're a country divided, it doesn't look like it to me!

No-one I work with is talking about Brexit or tonight's vote. My family don't discuss it; leavers and remainers spent a perfectly cordial Xmas together. My friends look at me like this Confused if I bring it up. I'm not hearing any discussions in the hairdressers or the shop or the pub.

How about in your life?

(And if you don't want to discuss Brexit on this thread, you're free to leave)

The speculation is boring because it is really really repetitive and nothing remains to be said that hasn't been said over and over again. When something actually happens then people talk but endless what ifs are just draining and pointless.

MissWilmottsGhost · 15/01/2019 18:02

Yes we discuss it at work a fair bit. I work in academic research with scientists from various countries, so partly its worrying about funding and partly worrying about getting kicked out the country Sad

With friends, some are remainers and some leavers but we manage to talk sensibly about hopes and concerns. Some friends are EU nationals but hope think they will be ok because they have jobs.

DH and I discuss how we will cope if there is a financial crash, or we lose our jobs, or whether we should stockpile.

I don't discuss it with family. They think getting rid of the forriners is great and the EU do nothing for us anyway. They seem unable to understand when I point out how my job and my friends will be affected Hmm

MissWilmottsGhost · 15/01/2019 18:04

I mean I don't discuss it with my family. The PILs are great to rant about politics with Grin

Walkingdeadfangirl · 15/01/2019 18:19

I don't hear many people talking about it at all irl.

When I ask its either, "borrring", "not really important is it?", "I don't care" or "I thought we had left already"!

The small minority who do talk about it either say "bring on a hard Brexit at the end of March, enough already" (leavers), or "the sky is falling down, we have to stop it at all costs" (remainers).

We just need to move on, get it done and get on with life, yawn.

Spunkymonkey2019 · 15/01/2019 18:22

We talk about it several times a week and my teens do too.

LonelyandTiredandLow · 15/01/2019 18:25

I talk to one friend about it daily as we voted differently. Most of my friends are interested innit and several families in know have left the country because of it. A lot of the talks about whether to book holidays and getting supplies in if there is a no deal. Personally, I can usually tell by the topics of discussion whether people voted leave, so sometimes it's just best avoided unless you want vitriol.

mellongoose · 15/01/2019 18:43

We are now united in our house. DH voted remain but now wants us to leave. As soon as possible. Is not worried about no deal.

BabyDubsEverywhere · 15/01/2019 18:55

I don't know anyone who talks about it - not through fear, but through complete disinterest in anything political. That's just as depressing tbh.

leghairdontcare · 15/01/2019 18:58

In work we talk about it all the time. We receive lots of EU funding so the future is very uncertain.

Socially, everyone thinks I'm crazy for not booking a summer holiday abroad but I don't want to risk it. I banned Brexit talk on Christmas day because I didn't want arguments between the different age groups in the family.

ElvisParsley · 15/01/2019 19:01

Every single day for the last 2.5 years.
My DH has become politically active, is chair of a local political party group. His job is contingency planning for no deal, ironic given how much he hates the idea of Brexit. It's going to be so much worse than anything the press are saying if we do crash out.
My job/industry is also impacted by it, so it gets discussed at work as well.

Anyone finding it boring or saying that it isn't that important is going to be in a world of pain come April if this shit show goes ahead.

SteveMcGarrettsBudgieSmugglers · 15/01/2019 19:03

yes loads, I live outside of the UK it has massive implications for me, my family and many of my friends

to think you are going to remain unaffected by the consequences of Brexit is incredibly naive, it will have implications for generations

fussychica · 15/01/2019 19:11

Every day unless we are in the company of the odd person we know who voted leave.
Whatever happens it's not going to be good, it's about damage limitation. I can't believe that so many people think its unimportant. oh right I can, it's the great British public who are more interested in voting on Strictly or Love Island than their future

We are currently watching Politics live on BBC2.

nocoolnamesleft · 15/01/2019 19:13

Yes, people are talking about it. With my brother at the weekend, out with friends last night, at work today...

onalongsabbatical · 15/01/2019 19:41

Vote on TM deal lost by 230!

Yulebealrite · 15/01/2019 19:45

I mix with educated people and it's rarely discussed.

ethelredonagoodday · 15/01/2019 19:57

We talk about it fairly frequently in our office. I work in local government though so there are already implications for us on policy and funding etc. Mainly the discussion is along the lines of 'its because of bloody Brexit that we haven't had a decision on x, y and z' and a bit of general moaning...

lljkk · 15/01/2019 20:08

Plenty of natter sporadically (university office).

HalloumiGus · 15/01/2019 20:12

Talked about often for our family and in wider work and social circle. Had a long conversation in work today about it.

HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend · 15/01/2019 20:15

Talked about at work, outside no, not because we don’t think it’s important, but because we are just sick of the whole thing.

FixItUpChappie · 15/01/2019 20:25

Lol I'm a Canadian - have been watching live feed of your parliament for past 2 hours Grin. I think I can relate though....I already suffer from mental exhaustion on the pressing topic of Trump and refuse to discuss us politics at present. Impotent rage can only take you so far.

marvellousnightforamooncup · 15/01/2019 20:25

Everyone talks about it all the time in my life. Friends, family, Facebook. It is quite important after all.

FayFortune · 15/01/2019 20:27

They might be talking tomorrow op!

Anerak · 15/01/2019 20:27

I don't live in UK but am British and everyone in my day to day life talks about it here and follows it closely (family, colleagues, general public)

FayFortune · 15/01/2019 20:28

A general election will prompt a huge national groan I should think..

todaywasafairytale · 15/01/2019 20:32

No one really speaks about it, except to say how much of a massive screw up it has been. I literally don't know anyone who voted leave.
