Considering the media say we're a country divided, it doesn't look like it to me!

No-one I work with is talking about Brexit or tonight's vote. My family don't discuss it; leavers and remainers spent a perfectly cordial Xmas together. My friends look at me like this Confused if I bring it up. I'm not hearing any discussions in the hairdressers or the shop or the pub.

How about in your life?

(And if you don't want to discuss Brexit on this thread, you're free to leave)

DH and I talk about it daily as we work throughout (and have family living in) Europe. DC get involved in discussions too as eldest had intended to study abroad. We just all feel in a massive limbo at the moment Sad

Kemer2018 · 15/01/2019 16:53

Not at work.
The pil's raised it at the weekend.
That's about it.

EmmaGellerGreen · 15/01/2019 16:57

We talk about it all the time especially with DS. He needs to understand what this country is doing to itself.

PerverseConverse · 15/01/2019 17:01

I discuss it with my children, my mum, and friends. My mum voted leave and realises she made a mistake and wishes she could turn back the clock now she knows what a cluster fuck it is. She's prepping, as am I.
Worrying times.

MargoLovebutter · 15/01/2019 17:09

It is discussed where I work, in my family, with friends, on the social media platforms I'm on. I feel like I've been talking about it for 2 years!!!!!!!!!!!

ImNotReallyAWaitress · 15/01/2019 17:10

Yes they’re talking about it.

However, it has a much bigger impact as I’m a British citizen living in a European country and the government here still can’t say what’s going to happen to us all here once brexit actually happens.

THEsonofaBITCH · 15/01/2019 17:13

everyone at work is talking about it!

Are you in Sweden? The government has announced today that we'll get 1 years grace to apply for visas or citizenship.

Nandocushion · 15/01/2019 17:21

Yes, quite a few, and I'm in US.

Elfinablender · 15/01/2019 17:24

It's discussed among family and friends. Given the strength of feeling around it and the current crunch point that we are in, I'm very determinedly not talking about it to anyone outside of those circles right now.

SocksRock · 15/01/2019 17:26

Yes but I have a few friends very involved in Westminster politics so inevitable really

Pjsandbaileys · 15/01/2019 17:28

We talk about but we live near the ni border and both our jobs are/have been eu funded!!! Don't really know what will happen come March eekkk!!

ClanoftheCaveBear · 15/01/2019 17:29

DS is 6. At school yesterday the local vicar came in to do assembly. His topic was hope, and he asked the children to name some of the things they are hoping for.
DS- “I’m hoping to avoid a No Deal Brexit”.
The teachers were in stitches.

abbsisspartacus · 15/01/2019 17:30

I'm.a cleaner it's being discussed every job I go to and at the school gates

ALongHardWinter · 15/01/2019 17:30

To be honest,I am bored rigid with the whole thing. It seems to be the only topic on the news lately. I know it's important, but still....
And no,I don't know anyone in real life who discusses it thank god

2rebecca · 15/01/2019 17:34

No, everyone I know is fed up of the often circular arguments and entrenched positions. I think once something is decided people will talk but people are bored of the endless speculation that only the media seem to love.

Helmetbymidnight · 15/01/2019 17:35

Yes with remainers and devastated European friends.

No with leavers in my family - one relative thinks brexit already happened.

dimsum123 · 15/01/2019 17:36

DH and I discuss it. It is absolutely not discussed at work.

I took a lovely break from it all a while back by not reading any newspapers, not listening to the radio, not watching the news on TV. I feel refreshed now and have rejoined it all just in time for today's instalment. Grin

ADarkandStormyKnight · 15/01/2019 17:36

Yes me and my family and friends talk about it. I also have a big EU flag on display 🇪🇺.

To be fair it makes me very anxious so there is a case for not discussing it.

icannotremember · 15/01/2019 17:37

I don't think you get quite how important it is, if you're surprised that it's currently dominating the news!

HerLadySheep · 15/01/2019 17:37

All the time! I worry that people are "bored" because they should understand that this is likely to go on for many many years to come. There is no quick easy fix to this mess.

Ta1kinPeace · 15/01/2019 17:40

Agree with pp it’s oddly fascinating to watch our country fall apart
This Sad

whatswithtodaytoday · 15/01/2019 17:43

I don't know how anyone can possibly find it boring Confused Even if you're not normally interested in politics, this is way beyond your usual political to and fro and will affect everyone for a generation, at least.

To answer the question, yes people I know talk about it a lot. I exist in a liberal remain echo chamber though, so no arguments - just despairing sharing of the latest fuckery and wondering how bad it's going to be.

Perfectly1mperfect · 15/01/2019 17:46

One friend talks about it a lot as its going to impact her job hugely. She works at a university in Scientific research. She and her colleagues were devastated at the leave vote. We talk about it at home sometimes as things happen in the news or the kids ask things. I often don't have answers to their questions. We voted remain, it's a mess. Those that voted leave were very vocal about it when the vote went their way but seem very quiet now.

SheWoreBlueVelvet · 15/01/2019 17:46

Only in passing really to discuss another news story about nothing appears.
There’s not a lot to say until we know what post March looks like. And bugger all we can do, as either remainders or leavers.
I think people whatever their views are pretty polite actually.
