Poor dd2 drew the short straw and has the tiniest box room in the world. We’ve been here 5 years and I’m currently in the process of binning/donating pretty much all the stuff she had that she never plays with (12 bin bags and counting!).

She refuses to sleep in her high up bed anymore because she once saw a spider (she’s being assessed for ASD and gets a bed in her bonnet about stuff) , so at her request I’ve now bought her a day bed, which has drawers and a pull out trundle underneath. So the big bed is going which is going to create a storage nightmare.

She still has a fuck ton of stuff she claims she can’t part with which is in my room at the moment. Toys, organised into big storage boxes, books, games, the biggest hamster cage in the world, sparkly bags and all that shit. Currently her clothes are not in her room and I can’t see that changing. Where the feck am I going to put all this stuff?

I’ve included a pic so you can see my problem. Please don’t judge the mess (it’s a work in progress!) or the hideous pink walls (she chose them a few years ago and they’re going).

Please share any box room storage miracles that you have!

I had a smaller box room than that when I was growing up but at least I didn’t have to share it with my brother so I loved it!

Mine literally had a single bed in it (specially made as it had to be shortened. The bed had drawers underneath. Then I had shelves above the bed for my books and dolls. Then a built in wardrobe (joiner made it specially for the space) with a clever dressing table/desk built in to it.

Less is more. My room never looked crowded as it didn’t have too much in it. Do you have a playroom for some of the stuff to go in?

Islands81 · 26/01/2019 09:52

Now I’m looking at it again in daylight and the paint is completely dry I don’t think it looks so bad...what do you reckon against the blue of the ikea stuff?

Looks fine as they are a similar tone, in reality she'll be putting posters etc up soon enough so how much of the wall colour will you even see?

You're over thinking it tbh, her room her choice?

blacktree · 26/01/2019 10:16

I think the pink colour looks nice

PosiePerkinandPootle · 26/01/2019 11:52

I think the pale pink/ blue works. I'd keep bedding white but try and get a throw and cushion or window blinds with both shades to tie it all together. I wouldn't always go matchy matchy but I think in a small room keeping to a main colour/accent colour/neutral helps to give an impression of space.

Single bed with draws underneath.
Shelving for boxes to fill with shit, I mean dc treasured possessions
Hammock hanging on the ceiling for cuddly toys
If she can fit in it have a bed made to fit under the window

Islands81 · 26/01/2019 12:10

Thanks everyone, I know I’m overthinking it Grin. I have a head full of snot and my ability to make decisions has left me. I will leave the pink as it as, quite relieved at not having to paint the bloody thing again (getting rid of that horrible dark pink was quite a task). Can get on with furniture building later today 👍🏻

How many coats did you do?

Islands81 · 26/01/2019 12:20

2 white and 2 pink

Islands81 · 26/01/2019 12:21

Oh and the ceiling!

OP posts:
YourFly · 26/01/2019 12:23

Maybe just maybe it needs 1 more? Maybe not.

You dont have to do it all now, it can be overwhelming, I bet it looks lovely.

I started painting white over yellow this morning. Ive had enough already, I feel your pain.

I find it a real chore now Im older

Then the decluttering starts Confused

TSSDNCOP · 26/01/2019 12:35

I’d do one more coat of paint. I had Shellsc that colour recently and the third coat nailed it.

Islands81 · 26/01/2019 12:42

Ok will give that a go. More painting 😭

Can't wait to see a finished pic GrinGrin

HomeEdRocks18 · 26/01/2019 12:47

You could use ikea bekvam spice racks for book shelves.
My daughter will be moving into the box room in our new home and I'll have to condense her 'stuff' so we can fit it all in

TSSDNCOP · 26/01/2019 12:58

Or you’ll have so many layers of paint you’ll make the room narrower Grin

Pascha · 26/01/2019 13:03

I'm sitting on the train rivetted by this thread, going down. Lots of rabbit holes of small bedroom ideas. Ds1 is asking for a revamp of his boxroom so I am holding out for full 360° pictures of the final product please Smile.

Polkadotdelight · 26/01/2019 13:29

I'm following this because I can't wait to see the transformation!

PotteryLady · 26/01/2019 13:31

Me too!

Islands81 · 26/01/2019 13:36

Grin the pressure is on! Promise I will put some pics of the finished result, it’s the least I can do after all the help.

That colour looks so much better than the dark pink.

ssd · 26/01/2019 13:41

Ds room is tiny too but he's a big teenager so no cuddly toys just lots of clothes and gadgets with no where to put them...... Has anyone got solutions for this problem when they're older?

MsChookandtheelvesofFahFah · 26/01/2019 13:54

My dds had this style overbed storage when they had the boxroom. Takes up no space at all.

ssd · 26/01/2019 14:02

Sorry op didn't mean to jump into your thread with my problems!!

The pink looks lovely in her room and I think if she's happy then you'll be happy!!
Looking forward to finished pics here too.

Yearofthemum · 26/01/2019 14:02

That particular shade of pale pink is lovely, OP.
