To spend £300 on a hairdryer

canibehereifimnotamum · 13/01/2019 12:27

Ive been wanting a Dyson hairdryer for a while as it's supposed to cut your hair drying time down by half and my hair is long and thick so takes about an hour to dry. All the reviews I've read are mixed so i don't really know what to do! Has anyone got/used one and is £300 a ridiculous amount to spend on a hairdryer!?

YABU.

Buy it from QVC so you can always have peace of mind you can send it it back if it’s not right for you?

Aridane · 13/01/2019 13:47

Apparently there is a thread on this, similarly titled, where posters who have bought it share their experiences of it

pantyclaws · 13/01/2019 13:57

I got the Airwrap which also comes with a hairdryer attachment plus brush, I can now do my hair in about 5 minutes and it's actually pleasurable

Bloomburger · 13/01/2019 13:59

DH bought me one in the summer. It's amazing, so quick and give hair amazing body. So go for it YANBU.

Nanasueathome · 13/01/2019 14:02

It’s usually easy pay over 3/4 months on QVC too

MumOfTwoMasterOfNone · 13/01/2019 14:03

I hated mine and have given it away in return for the hairdryer which I gave away when I got my dyson. I think it depends on your hair type whether it's any good personally.

Whatififall · 13/01/2019 14:04

It’s a lot of money but if you can afford buy it

HesterShaw21 · 13/01/2019 14:50

I love my Dyson hairdryer, DH got it for me for Christmas. While I don't have formal timings of how long it took with my old hairdryer vs Dyson, it certainly is a lot quicker and I have fewer wonky hairs sticking out.

JellyBears · 13/01/2019 14:56

Do it!! I bought one and it’s so good!! Leaves your hair feeling fresh and dry.

MeredithGrey1 · 13/01/2019 15:31

Depends on your finances, I think questions about “is thing x worth £x” are all relative. My MIL has one of these and I love using it when we stay at theirs! But PIL have really well paying jobs, no kids at home and have paid off their mortgage - not unreasonable for them to spend £300 on a hairdryer.
For me however, I would never buy it, despite how much I like it, because I can’t justify that amount of money on something like this.

firsttimegoing · 13/01/2019 15:45

You will not regret it, if mind stopped working I would buy another one tomorrow

areyoureallysaying · 13/01/2019 15:47

I think it totally depends on your financial situation. If you can afford it then go for it. I'm really thinking of investing in the hair wrap system but I want to have a go with one first!

Felicia3 · 13/01/2019 15:50

If you can afford it go for it. Nothing wrong with buying something you really want if it's within your budget

Aridane · 13/01/2019 15:50

Was going to helpfully link the the other thread - but when I searched Dyson, hairdryer, £300, x3 pages of results came up!

Curlygirl42 · 13/01/2019 16:01

I’ve got thick curly hair and read reviews on the dyson that it dries hair much quicker. I borrowed my cousins one before I spent that much money in case I didn’t like it. I’m so glad I did, I didn’t like it, it didn’t really dry it any quicker and i found it was too hot, even on the lowest setting.

MsSquiz · 13/01/2019 16:02

I have one, I love it. It dries my hair faster than a normal hairdryer.

But, I'm not sure I would pay £300 for it. I used my Boots advantage points to buy mine (collected points for years) so it wasn't the same to me as just spending £300 on a hairdryer

BlythesEyes · 13/01/2019 16:06

Got one for Christmas....it's amazing...love love love it. Makes my hair very soft and full and dries in about 8 minutes. Agree with getting one from qvc...you can send it back within 30 days if you don't like it.

messyhousetidymind · 13/01/2019 16:09

I wobbled on the price too but totally worth it if you have thick, straight hair that normally takes ages to dry with a normal dryer. I use it for a fast rough dry I don't know what it's like with the nozzles etc as I have fat fingers and no patience

messyhousetidymind · 13/01/2019 16:10

Ps what sold it to me was trying out how it felt on a display in John Lewis

DaphneDiligaf · 13/01/2019 16:17

My hairdresser uses it and it doesn't seem much different on my hair.

Blankiefan · 13/01/2019 16:26

Consider the airwrap first. I have both and since getting the airwrap I haven't used my hairdryer (which I love too). The airwrap is just so fab.

MrsPinkCock · 13/01/2019 16:29

Yes I’ve got one, it was a gift.

It’s just a hairdryer. Personally I find it a pain in the arse. If you don’t use any attachments, it blows your hair bloody everywhere so it ends up knotted to buggery. If you do use the attachments it takes ages to dry your hair. It gives me less body to my hair than my cheap hairdryer. Probably fewer stray hairs, but that only lasts until I’ve slept on it.

Takes me longer to do my hair now than it did before, but maybe if you’re someone who styles their hair properly with it it’s worth the investment, personally I just want to dry it as quickly as possible and go! Also I have quite long fine hair so it just doesn’t work well for me.

Really wish DH hadn’t wasted his money on it, I much prefer my GHD hairdryer which was about a third of the price.

NyNameIs · 13/01/2019 16:40

I've got the airwrap and love that, id always had the supersonic on my wish list and by the time I could afford it the airwrap had launched so I decided to go with that instead. I've not used

Still very tempted by the supersonic but my hair doesn't take long to dry as it is and I've not used my Patric since getting the airwrap as it has the dryer attachment so unless I see a "can't refuse" deal on the supersonic I'm going to pass.

Quizacabusi · 13/01/2019 16:44

I have one and it is good but I much prefer my Collexia hair drier that you can get from Salons Direct for £100. The Collexia one has pods you put in that have particles blown into your hair to condition, strengthen etc. it is incredible how far my hair dries with it.

CottonSock · 13/01/2019 16:47

I like it as it's easy to manoeuvre and light. It was my Christmas gift and there are not many things I want these days so I am happy with it. Unfortunately my hair is still frizzy
