So sorry - I know it’s not AIBU but you guys are so helpful - what on Earth is this?

I would say b-r-u-sh too. It is an ‘easier’ word than b-oa-t as the /sh/ phoneme is always one of the first digraphs taught so would come before the /oa/ in a teaching sequence.
Does boat have 3 or 4 boxes?

puzzledlady · 12/01/2019 13:31

Boat has 4. Also have a box for ‘rain’

We’re just going to put brush I think!

Thanks!

H-E-L-P

I have no idea how to do a 4 years homework

Underneath the boxes with H-E-L-P in

WinkyisbackontheButterBeer · 12/01/2019 13:42

How odd.

Craft?

Sugarhunnyicedtea · 12/01/2019 13:43

Glue?

bookmum08 · 12/01/2019 13:47

You really need to tell the teacher that this confused both you and your child. The teacher needs to know what the children have understood and what they haven't. Also teach your child that if they don't understand the homework or don't know an answer they should leave it blank. Again the teacher needs to know what may need re going over. The homework will get more baffling as the years go by and you need to tell your child it is OK if they don't understand or know something or you will still be doing their homework for them when they are 10 (I speak from experience!!)

WinkyisbackontheButterBeer · 12/01/2019 13:48

Sorry just looked again. That doesn’t fit either.

JupiterBelle · 12/01/2019 13:51

Colour the end of it in pink and put pink 😁

cindersrella · 12/01/2019 13:54

KIST

According to google this is how they say paint brush in Croatia. 😂

altiara · 12/01/2019 13:57

I’d leave it empty as your child couldn’t do it and not worry at all.
Have you got a Facebook group or what’s app group for your year group? Very handy if your child’s forgotten their homework/spellings as someone can post it up for you or if you just want to complain about the homework!!

autumnnightsaredrawingin · 12/01/2019 13:57

If it’s for phonemes then tree should only have 3 boxes as ‘ee’ is a sound together so t r ee. Ask the teacher for sure.

MsChookandtheelvesofFahFah · 12/01/2019 14:55

Is this an old Twinkl sheet? Maybe they can help! Possibly this was originally a coloured sheet and the tip was grey or pink? As others have said, it looks like it should be a phoneme frame but if tree and rain are correct then that's not it. Although it seems an odd type of homework if 4 year olds are expected to spell rain at this point in the year.

Shesellsseashellsontheseashore · 12/01/2019 15:00

I'd probably go with b-r-u-sh too. Although phonetically boat and rain would only need 3 boxes as b-oa-t and r-ai-n. Not the best worksheet really it seems!

pudcat · 12/01/2019 15:05

Could it be a fork?

Nanny0gg · 12/01/2019 15:10

If it's a phoneme frame it would be helpful if the phoneme boxes were sized to give a clue

CurlyMango · 12/01/2019 16:47

Add an extra box and then fill in brush

bridgetreilly · 12/01/2019 16:58

Agree with pps, don't fill it in. Explain to your child that if there's something in homework they can't work out (after trying properly), that's fine, and they'll need to ask the teacher to help them. Good experience for later.

widgetbeana · 12/01/2019 17:05

It's 4 sounds not letters.

P / ai / n / t

gottastopeatingchocolate · 12/01/2019 17:08

T-O-O-L

Allthewaves · 12/01/2019 17:08

b-r-u-sh

YouTheCat · 12/01/2019 17:09

It is 4 sounds/phonemes. So it is b-r-u-sh . The 'sh' counts as one sound.

Or it could be p-ai-n-t where the 'ai' is one phoneme.

It is not a mistake.

Snowangel23 · 12/01/2019 17:10

Brush or paint. If all of the other pictures contain vowel digraphs I'd go with paint. If they all contain sh or ch then brush.

MsChookandtheelvesofFahFah · 12/01/2019 17:12

Op's point is though that there are 4 spaces for words like boat, tree and rain. Unless they don't expect all spaces to be used of course.

Roomba · 12/01/2019 17:13

Ooh I think I know this one! I'm almost 100% certain DS2 brought this one home and it was BLUE. All the other words were oo/ue/ew words IIRC? Stumped me as well and I had to Google the website in tint print at the bottom do the sheet then locate the work scheme and answers!

SpockPaperScissorsLizardRock · 12/01/2019 17:14

My DD had this in reception. It is b-r-u-sh.

The boat picture was actually Sh-i-p i think!
