When do you think the airports will get busy in March re Brexit?

I think quite a few people might go on hols for a couple of weeks to avoid any Brexit teething trouble.

I have flexibility with my diary and would like to do the same - just wondering when airports will start to get really busy? Any ideas?

Not worried about people looting your house while you're away?

AbsentmindedWoman · 12/01/2019 12:44

Nope.

Any looters would likely be disappointed with the bounty in my flat anyway Grin

Not stockpiling then?

AbsentmindedWoman · 14/01/2019 12:12

I don't have room to stockpile anything..

Any other thoughts on this? I want to book a flight! But wondering if airports will be a busy nightmare on 26th March?

We went away begining of march last year and the airport was mobbed so i don't think it matters too much but you could catch some rays before the appocalypse Smile

MrsJayy · 14/01/2019 12:16

I don't think anybody can tell you really

MatildaTheCat · 14/01/2019 12:16

We have just booked a long haul trip which conveniently covers the Brexit period (should it ever happen) but it was a coincidence. I was pretty pleased when I realised though.

ForalltheSaints · 14/01/2019 12:16

More important to avoid the Easter school holidays, so any part of March before the 29th I would suggest.

AbsentmindedWoman · 14/01/2019 12:18

Do most schools break up on March 29th? I guess private schools holiday dates vary though?

OP posts:
MrsJayy · 14/01/2019 12:22

I dont think all schools are off at the same time just google you area school holidays.

Jizzle · 14/01/2019 12:24

Aren't you more worried about getting a flight back to the UK of you are aware when brexit happens?!

BarbaraofSevillle · 14/01/2019 12:24

Not sure how going away will avoid Brexit teething trouble. If there is any trouble, unless you go away for quite a while, you're likely to be hit with it when you get back, or get stuck abroad somewhere because if they can't get people through immigration, at some point they won't bother letting them fly rather then let them all pile up airside at UK airports.

No-one can say what the airports going out or coming back will be on the 26th March, or if indeed Brexit will happen on the planned date or not. They're now saying that if this week's vote doesn't vote for the deal, then we might not Brexit on the 29th March and then who knows what will happen, we could go on with uncertainty for weeks/months or even years.

If you have the time and money to go on holiday in March/April then do it, but consider what will happen if you get stuck abroad. Will that be a disaster for work, pets, school, elderly relatives, or will it not matter that much?

Fairenuff · 14/01/2019 12:38

I suspect it will be the same as normal.

Or all the planes will fall out of the sky.

One or the other.

Birdsgottafly · 14/01/2019 12:38

No-one is going to be stuck abroad.

The airports will be busy because its the Easter break the following week, so prices are lower at the end of March and people are put off by Brexit.

I'm waiting to renew my passport, I want a new Blue one, if it goes ahead. So I'm not going anywhere outside of the UK.

If the Brexit shambles rolls on, I'll give in and get one next summer.

Birdsgottafly · 14/01/2019 12:41

"I suspect it will be the same as normal."

Buziness will be, but for those that go to Spain etc and come home with a load of ciggies, that may change depending on the deal done.

Which will slow things down in the airport for a while.

AbsentmindedWoman · 14/01/2019 12:54

As mentioned in my OP, I have flexibility with my schedule - so no, if I got stuck outside of the UK for a month or six weeks it would not be the end of the world.

Not ideal as obviously I'd like to get home to London, but it would be ok!

What is the current thinking on what will happen with the Open Skies agreement on March 27? Presumably if we have some kind of deal, air travel will be fine? But if no deal all flights be cancelled?

Put it this way... I know many people who would normally take European breaks in late March or during April who have opted to book for countries outside of the EU. Just in case. I'm certainly not booking a European holiday until there is more certainty of what's going on.

The EU have said that there will not be any issues with flights per se BUT that doesn't mean there won't be other issues at airports.

margotsdevil · 14/01/2019 15:36

I've just booked a holiday for the first week of April in an EU country. I think this will be like the millennium bug - lot of panic with no real pain.

Helmetbymidnight · 14/01/2019 15:40

We might know more tmrw eve, Op

AnyFucker · 14/01/2019 15:41

I am going early March to avoid any fuck ups

ginghambox · 14/01/2019 15:42

I think this will be like the millennium bug
Now you've done it.

MrsJayy · 14/01/2019 15:42

We are not going to be a no fly zone the airlines are not going to stop flying into the uk because of brexit people need to calm down as pounted out the worst that is likely to happen is fag runs to spain

Tonsilss · 14/01/2019 16:50

Do any actual non Russian trolls still spout that idiotic Millenium Bug line?

MidLifeCrisis2017 · 14/01/2019 16:51

I'm only booking one way

ElvisParsley · 14/01/2019 16:55

I might go away for the next 50 years or so, until my children’s generation are in political power and can turn this shit heap back again.
