to wish I'd bought one of these years ago

So I've just made myself poached eggs on toast for lunch using my new microwave egg poacher-which cost me the princely sum of 70p using a voucher-and it did the job perfectly, cleanly and soo quickly. If it hadn't been on special offer I probably wouldn't have bothered to try it out because I think mostly the old fashioned ways of cooking things is best, but I can see me and the kids getting a lot of use out of this thing. What cheap and cheerful gadget have you bought that's made your life that bit easier and made you wish you'd bought it years ago?

Powered garlic(it doesn’t clump together) frozen peppers, frozen onion & frozen mushrooms. These are a god send

EmNetta · 13/01/2019 14:13

May I mention a little gadget for the car? I don't know the name, but it's a kind of sticky patch which adheres to the dashboard and holds stuff in place - coffee-cups, blue badges etc and anything which used to need chasing into the corners of window ( or the floor)to retrieve.

iframedrogerrabbit · 13/01/2019 14:25

A cherry de-stoner, love it!

Kariana · 13/01/2019 14:27

Cling film dispenser from Lakeland. It's amazing. My rolls of cling film now last absolutely ages!

Juells · 13/01/2019 14:36

DeLonghi espresso machine, that takes ground coffee. Wish I'd bought one years ago, saved years of perking, drip filter jugs, paper filters, plastic filters.

I actually only started buying frozen mushrooms and peppers less than a year ago,but never onions.I don't know why, because I HATE peeling the buggers. Are the frozen ones as flavoursome as fresh?

I love my mini kitchen tongs.
I love elasticated shoe laces! Never need to tie a shoe again and you'd never notice they're not normal laces.
Elasticated belts that don't buckle at the front - they start from the front two loops so when you need a wee you just undo you jeans, not the extra buckle! I'm an apple shape so jeans don't stay up without a belt and I'm a frequent wee er!
I'm mid 30's and not a complete fashion disaster believe it or not.

Thewifipasswordis · 13/01/2019 15:40

😂 at kitchen tweezers...

Tongs ffs

seven201 · 13/01/2019 15:52

I was given one of those avocado gadgets. Couldn't get the hang of it I didn't try hard so gave it away.

NutElla5x · 13/01/2019 16:12

Oh another thing I wish I'd bought years ago-not sure if it's a gadget as such, but has been life changing for me-and that's my mooncup. Highly recommended for those who suffer with heavy periods especially. Best invention since sliced bread!

I got oven liners but in a fan oven they blow around!

I weight mine down with an oven tray which I don't use for cooking anything, it just lives in the oven.

kaitlinktm · 13/01/2019 16:15

Sorry, bold fail. :(

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 13/01/2019 16:49

Who can't be arsed to mash / rice a potato ffs?!

seven201 · 13/01/2019 17:04

The Karcher window vacuum - great for cleaning windows but essential for getting rid of condensation on windows in the house, car and campervan.

Also just bought an EasiYo yogurt making set from Lakeland - makes great yogurt with less plastic waste.

SarahET · 13/01/2019 18:27

The Karcher window cleaner is brilliant, I bought my mum one and now I feel no guilt whatsoever when my daughter puts her sticky fingers all over mum's windows Grin

I use it for the shower surround and mirrors too.

gaggiagirl · 13/01/2019 18:33

www.lakeland.co.uk/14621/Lakeland-Scrudle this, sadly discontinued but mine has lasted me years. It's so useful for getting food out of the slow cooker or large pans thanks to its flat bottom. If anyone sees one for sale, let me know. I couldn't be without it.

I can't quite picture this ,can you say more ,or post a link/photo??

I have an elasticated belt like this ,and it has to be said I use it exactly as you describe ,but I'm up for a more sophisticated version 1

RandomMess · 13/01/2019 20:24

@gaggiagirl they sell "jug scoops" like that on eBay

gaggiagirl · 13/01/2019 20:31

@RandomMess thank you!!!! I'll absolutely get another one for just in case.
I bought MiL one and she couldn't find a use for it so she let the children use it in the garden 😤

seven201 · 13/01/2019 20:44

@peridito
These belts are not fashionable, purely for stopping your trousers from falling down!

seven201 · 13/01/2019 20:44

And I wish that was my stomach

seven201 · 13/01/2019 20:46

I looked up the karcher window thing and it seemed to say you need to wash your windows AND use the karcher thing?

DistanceCall · 13/01/2019 22:20

Not a gadget, but I recently found out about this way of peeling potatoes, and it's been nothing short of revolutionary for me:

Basically, you score the potato skin around the middle with a knife, boil the potato, and then peel each half off when the potato's cool.

SittHakim · 13/01/2019 22:30

@Tinkobell, tell me more about the dog polisher!
