I need inspiration! I'm not a massive foodie. I actually quite dislike cooking... but we are a family of 2 adults and a 5 and 3 year old and I need ideas.

OP posts:
ToffeePennie · 11/01/2019 11:58

Monday chicken pasta bake
Tuesday chilli
Wednesday jacket spuds with leftover chicken and bacon filler
Thursday sweet and sour chicken
Friday - pizza chips nuggets
Sat spag Bol
Sun roast dinner
Every time there’s leftovers I put them into two sizes of ramekin to freeze for the kids. They eat homemade freezer food all week!

Yearinyearout · 11/01/2019 12:02

It’s the bane of my life. I actually enjoy the process of cooking and have plenty of time to do it, but I’m just so bored of it after all these years 😂 I make pretty much everything from scratch and a typical week might be spag Bol, chicken curry, jacket potato with chicken/salad, salmon with potatoes/veg, chicken and bacon casserole with mash/veg, fajitas.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 11/01/2019 12:03

Our current routine is

Sun: roast of some kind, mostly not traditional British style, chicken, gammon, lamb shoulder and brisket all feature

Mon; something with leftover meat - fajitas, pasta or risotto

Tues: soup preferably with homemade stock and pudding

Wed: veggie meal, shakshuka, quiche, curry are all popular

Thurs: as Wednesday

Fri: fish, salmon, fish curries and stews, kedgeree. Basically the family mostly like their fish as disguised as possible

Sat: fakeaway, homemade pizza, burgers or kebabs or fully loaded nachos, something the kids really like.

Marking place for inspiration in hope i can find a weekly meals my dc will eat

Seniorschoolmum · 11/01/2019 12:13

If you aren’t keen on cooking, can you find a butcher who does half the prep? Ours does lamb chops already marinated in mint sauce, five different kinds of sausages, chicken thighs already wrapped in bacon.
All I do is stick them in the oven for 20 mins covered in foil, and add mash or chips & veg.
when I make pasta sauce, I make four times as much as I need, and freeze some.
Frozen fish fillets work too, make a tomato sauce but add some fennel seeds at the onion frying stage. Once the sauce is made, just lay the frozen fish in the sauce on the lowest heat, for 10 minutes. Use the 10 mins to boil some rice. Add some chilli sauce to liven it up.
Or omelettes. Do some oven chips, then make a three egg omelette, throw in some cheese and peppers. Really quick.

I don't know how so many people have left overs with a family, my husband would easily eat a normal sized chicken on his own. 😮😬
(He does do a physical job)

Marmite27 · 11/01/2019 12:20

I have a 9mo and a 3yo. We follow WW propoints.

This weeks menu looks like this:
*Braised steak, mash and veg
*Cook in the bag chicken, roast veg, roast baby potatoes
*Chargrills, oven chips and salad (need an easy meal one night)
*spaghetti Bolognaise (batch cooked in slow cooker yesterday)
*Nando’s marinated chicken, golden veg rice and ratatouille
*chicken curry & Rice
*Hairy Bikers one pot pork and rice

Minniemountain · 11/01/2019 12:20

Sunday- sesame ginger soba noodle salad.
Monday- broccoli pasta.
Tuesday- sweet potato hash.
Wednesday & Thursday- DS eats at MIL's. DH and I have vegetarian currys from the freezer.
Friday- I am letting DS choose from his "I Can Cook" cookbook.

5yo DS is a fussy little monkey who won't eat anything with a sauce, or spice or many vegetables. He'd live off pasta if we let him. We try to have meals where the bits can be separated out.

lastqueenofscotland · 11/01/2019 12:29

I don’t do this but I know a lot of people who have themes so

A pasta night - spaghetti Bolognese, mac and cheese, pasta pesto, gnocchi etc
Mexican night - chilli, fajitas, quesadillas etc
Curry night
Meat free night

British food night - sausage and mash, pie, roast etc

We're veggie and have a 4yr old and 1yr old who get their tea at nursery 3 days a week. Typical easy meals for us:

Wraps with either falafel/hummus/salad or Mexican spice veg beans/avocado/yoghurt or halloumi/peppers/spinach/

veggie fingers, baby potatoes, frozen veg

Spaghetti with homemade tomato and lentil sauce (make and freeze 3 portions at a time) and veggie meatballs, tinned sweetcorn or broccoli

Stir fry veg from a packet, tofu, noodles or microwave rice

Homemade curry with microwave rice or naan and plain yoghurt - BBC recipes for either muttar paneer or chana Masala made with tinned chickpeas/tomatoes and frozen spinach/peas

Chilli con carne or Bolognese made with soya mince served with rice or pasta and a green veg on the side

Leek, butterbean and sausage stew (BBC recipe we omit the chilli for the kids) with baby potatoes and carrots

Homemade soup always add red lentils- either carrot, leek, or scotch broth mix soaked overnight throw in chopped carrots/leeks/sweet potato etc, sweet potato and Apple soup, spicy parsnip (freeze 3 meals worth at a time) serve
with bake at home rolls/garlic bread/crackers/cheese/quorn cocktail sausages etc

Sandwiches with veggie ham/cheese spread/hummus with cucumber/carrot sticks, crisps

English cooked breakfast

Quiche with baby potatoes and frozen

Scrambled eggs/beans on toast

Jacket potato with beans and salad

Soya or homemade bean burgers with potato or sweet potato wedges, corn on the cob

Sweetcorn and courgette fritters with poached egg

Ready rolled puff pastry - make 'sausage rolls' filled with mashed up sweet potato, cheese, ground almonds, frozen veg and canellini beans (make up and freeze 3 portions of filling at a time)

Cheese and tomato pizza from supermarket with chopped veg added to each person's portion before baking, salad

Lots of tinned fruit like peaches/pineapple or rice pudding or yoghurt if we're having a pudding

All pretty high carb and fat unfortunately so great for the kids but not great for our weight!

TinklyLittleLaugh · 11/01/2019 13:47

Frequent if I want leftovers, I just cook more.

My DH wouldn't eat a whole chicken though.

IBSworriescanitbe · 11/01/2019 13:57

This week: (quite typical)
Macararoni cheese with veg
Fish with rice and veg
Pork and chinese veg in oyster sauce with noodles
Tomato pasta
Mixed bean wraps
Fish fingers with peas
Sat night will be lasagne or pizza depending on how tired I am after carting kids to clubs all morning!

DiggertyDamn · 11/01/2019 14:06

Emsonline We're 2 adults and 2 seven year olds.

We do a big cook off every 3 weeks because it's cheaper and easier.
Gumbo
Curry
Chicken and mushroom pie
Chilli con carne
Spaghetti sauce
Cottage pie
cheaptastyandeasy.wordpress.com/cook-off-main-page/
The key is you take out what you want the next day and put it in the fridge so it's defrosted.

We cook other stuff usually on a weekend. Tomorrow we're making pasties, and I've recently found halibut in our local shop so have been making fish and chips usingh this recipe for the battered fish.

Taffeta · 11/01/2019 14:35

Why does no one say:
Sunday: Lunch at my mums
Monday: Supermarket chicken kievs with oven chips
Tuesday: Pasta and Pesto
Wednesday: Defrosted something

Because

My mum lives 70 miles away
No one likes chicken Kiev
DS is a pesto refuser
Not a popular view on here, but can't abide batch cooked/leftover freezer food - it makes me sad, don't know why

We are all different - no need to feel pissed off with others as they don't do what you do

MyNameIsABCDE · 11/01/2019 14:37

Those of you who do homemade pizza night (usually on Fridays it seems) do you make the dough and sauce from scratch?

Just trying to perfect my homemade pizzas so looking for the perfect recipe

Taffeta · 11/01/2019 14:39

OH4FS

We tried Hello Fresh on a free trial - IMG the faff! The slicing! The washing up! The teeny sachets of soy!

Love the tiny containers though, we kept them. V useful for food tech stuff Grin

MyNameIsABCDE · 11/01/2019 14:42

We did Hello Fresh for a bit and enjoyed the variety of recipes. Also I felt the portion sizes were pretty decent
