In this weather! It's minus 1!

It's making me irrationally ragey!! Put some fucking clothes on, man.

As soon as he gets home from work he's in shorts and t-shirt. He goes out to the shops or petrol station like it... IN THIS WEATHER!

When his toes go black and drop off in his shoes he'll get no sympathy from me. I'll purse my lips and say "I told you so" and "I hope you're not going to get that gangrene on the bedding"!

I think you're being a bit lighthearted here, OP, but how would you like it if he started to tell you what you could and couldn't wear, based on his perception of how warm or cold you must be, how much flesh you were showing and whether your appearance made him feel uncomfortable? If you really loved and respected him, you'd wear what he told you to wear because it made him happier and he thought it for the best all round - and if you do otherwise, you've only done it for the sole intention of annoying him?

I agree with you that it seems crazy to go out with bare legs in this weather - and I admit I might see somebody (family/friend/stranger) so dressed and mutter or ask if they aren't cold - but I understand that clothes only work to provide warmth or coolness to the person wearing them and not to anybody else and I'd never be so arrogant or controlling as to shorts-shame or tell another adult what they should wear.

Clutterbugsmum · 12/01/2019 18:44

I don't understand why it annoys you so much. Surely you would prefer him to be comfortable. Some people are hotter then others.

As long as he not putting the heating to house up to 30 degrees, it's easier for you to layer up then him to undress.

the99 · 13/01/2019 08:03

@Soontobe60 that did tickle me! What an image!

@Doyouthinktheysaurus I think your DH is training for his grumpy old man years.

I kind of understand the wet trousers flapping around the postman's legs thing... maybe they should think about waterproof trousers with that profession though!

@HotInWinter that's the thing... when we lived overseas DH would be wrapped up for an arctic winter when it hit 20 Celsius!

Hope I am not prying, but most men I see wearing shorts in winter when not needing smart clothing are on the large side. Could this be a factor?

JeezYouLoon · 13/01/2019 08:30

I sit with three layers on while DH languishes in his t-shirt, drives me nuts. To be fair I think I'm jealous as I clearly feel the cold and he doesn't.

We live in different seasons Wink

Performance short wearing Grin

I think it's definitely a competitive thing among postal folk - how long can they hold out against the elements?!

Nephew insisted on wearing shorts for several years and he's pretty much underweight so nothing on him to keep him warm. Even when we visited at Christmas a few years ago and it snowed, he still had his shorts on when we went out for a walk.

There's some kids down our road - boys and girls who seem to all wear shorts too. They seem like sporty types too.

Actually it's supposed to be good for men's sperm to not have overheated balls (hence why they're on the outside of the body) so I guess shorts might be helping their fertility chances! Unless it's so cold they literally freeze their bollocks off Grin

the99 · 13/01/2019 08:53

I did request DH wear trousers on Christmas Day... you know, make an effort!

We have two toddlers. I have no interest in DH's sperm or fertility at this stage... or maybe I should get him tight thermal underpants.

Oh do not!! My DP does the same, wears shorts in all weathers. He’s wearing a beanie hat, a hoodie and shorts today 🤦🏼‍♀️ To make matters worse they’re normally his work shorts, one pair of which have a fetching thigh slit (thankfully only half the short leg!) where he jumped out of the tractor and got them caught, lovely 😂

the99 · 13/01/2019 08:57

@Isth DH's have paint splatter and plaster streaks from DIY.

We’re so lucky @the99 😂

DD (7) wears shorts all year round - School, home, indoor and outdoor sports, Beavers. Has done for a few years. Will entertain jogging bottoms in the snow.

luckylavender · 13/01/2019 09:06

I've noticed quite a lot of men about in shorts in the day since Christmas. It's odd.

the99 · 13/01/2019 09:11

It IS odd! I'm so glad other people can see this!

When I was growing up, boys at primary level wore shorts pretty well all the year round, certainly to school. Girls wore dresses, but wore woollen tights in the winter.

ElvisParsley · 13/01/2019 09:19

DS8 won't wear trousers except for school because he has to (actually, he could wear shorts there too, I just haven't told him!). I just tell him he won't get much sympathy from me if he is cold, shrug, move on with life.

DH is not dissimilar, but an adult and capable of judging his own clothing needs.

Believability · 13/01/2019 09:25

DS wears shorts and a T-shirt at home all the time. He does wear trousers when out though. DD is wearing tights for school this year, first time in 3 years. Last year she wore ankle socks through the whole freezing winter (skirts only school uniform)

brizzledrizzle · 13/01/2019 09:25

YABU, it's his choice. As for the heating, he pays the bill as well so he has a say doesn't he?

StillMedusa · 13/01/2019 09:32

My Dh is the same... and he wears (uniform) shorts to work too! He actually wore a suit for our daughter's wedding in September and I thought he looked a bit strange..took a while to realise it was because I couldn't see his legs!! He's a cyclist and built like a whippet so it's not as if he has fat to keep him warm. He just prefers bare legs!

Meanwhile I'm wrapped up for the arctic...

QueenofLouisiana · 13/01/2019 09:42

DS is the same. Agreed to wear a T-shirt for dinner last night as it was curry and would stain his skin if he dropped it.

Mind you, I was really warm for my entire pregnancy (and I am usually cold) and he just seems to ‘run’ warm. When he complains that he is cold I am genuinely worried as he’s almost always coming down with something.

userschmoozer · 13/01/2019 09:43

Hide behind a wall and throw snowballs at his legs, then blame kids. If you can get one to go right up the legs I'm sure it will teach him the error of his ways.

HazelBite · 13/01/2019 09:45

There are very few men that look okay in shorts, except for professional sportsmen.
I wish they wouldn't it hurts my eyes and affects my sensibilities Wink

wanderings · 13/01/2019 10:36

My DH wears shorts as much as he can get away with. My only concession to this is that I have bare ankles most of the year as I don't like socks; I'm often sockless in my trainers or flats in winter.
